Bertha Mae Nitchkey

Bertha Mae Nitchkey, 81 of Palmer Twp., PA passed peacefully from the embrace of her family into the open arms of her Saviour on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Manor Care, Palmer Twp.  Born May 17, 1935 in Wilson, PA she was a daughter of the late Archie and Alma (Frick) Stetler. She and her husband Robert A. Nitchkey, Sr. celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Feb. 20th.

A 1955 graduate of Philipsburg High School, she had been employed by Mary MacIntosh Dry Cleaning, Easton and Ingersoll-Rand in NJ. She was a member of the SPCA for many years and an avid pet lover who raised cats and dogs for her children. She also cared for stray cats, adopting the last one for her last pet. Bertha enjoyed shopping, QVC, spending time with her family and friends and collecting dolls. She was a former member of St. Peter’s UCC, Easton.

She is survived by her husband Robert; son: Robert A. Nitchkey, Jr. and his wife Terry of Forks Twp., PA; daughter: Darlene L. Stahl and her husband Roy of Palmer Twp.; brother Henry C. Stetler and his wife Judy of Palmer Twp.; sister: Laureen L. Steiner and her husband Larry of Gloucester, VA; 5 grandchildren; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

Services are 10:30 AM Friday, July 22 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with visitation 9:30 to 10:30 AM.  Interment is in Easton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Animal Health and Welfare, 1165 Island Park Road, Easton, PA  18042.
