Dorothy L. Herster

Dorothy L. Herster, of Easton, passed away November l8, 2014 at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, PA.  She was the wife of the late Andrew L. Herster, Jr.  Born October 1, 1920 in Wilson Borough, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Clarence D. and Mabel (Gradwohl) Hummel.  She was a 1938 graduate of Wilson High School.  She was a dedicated volunteer, former member and President of Women’s Board of Easton Hospital and Easton Hospital Board of Trustees.  During WWII she volunteered in surgery at Easton Hospital; she also served on the Girl Scout Council of Forks of the Delaware, and was a member of the Easton Garden Club.  Throughout her life she was a talented cook, great golfer (2 holes in one) and world traveler, as well as an avid floral arranger and accomplished needle pointer.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, of Wilson and former member of Northampton Country Club.

Survivors:  Daughters: Barbara A. Newton and her husband, Henry R., of Bethlehem Township, and Christine L. Murphy and her husband, William K. of Bethlehem Township; Grandchildren:  Elizabeth L. Woolley and her husband Douglas; Henry R. Newton, Jr. and his wife Sonya; William A. Murphy and his wife, Reid; and Peter N. Murphy and his wife Melissa.  Eight great grandchildren and brother, William H. Hummel of Forks Township.

Services:  Calling hours will be held December 1, 2014 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Church.  Ashton Funeral Home of Easton is handling the arrangements.

    Aunt Dot will be sorely missed as she was such a vibrant and wonderful person. She was like a second mother to me and I am so grateful that she was such an important part of my life. Rest in peace.
