Richard A. Ashton

Richard Adams Ashton, 65 of Seaside Heights, NJ died Friday, October 16, 2026, in Toms River, NJ. Born July 7, 1961, in Easton, PA he was a son of the late Shirley (Adams) and Fred L. Ashton, Jr., former mayor of Easton. He was a graduate of Toms River North High School and Lafayette College. Rick worked with New York City’s Department of Ports and Trade as Assistant Director and was integral in the establishment of the ferry service for commuters originating in New Jersey.

Rick worked in different industries throughout his life, most notably as co-owner of Eric and Michael’s restaurant in Connecticut. He was most recently employed by Crossroads Realty and Arthur Rue Agency as a real estate agent. Before his stroke, Rick was a devoted caretaker of his mother, Shirley. He was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lavalette, NJ. Rick took pleasure in his young nephews and nieces when they came to the shore for annual vacations. He’d delight in the wonder in their eyes when they found a rare shell or colossal piece of red sea glass on the beach, which he had secretly left for them to find.

He is survived by his children whom he loved dearly: Michael, William, and Elizabeth; his siblings: Fred L. Ashton, III (wife Margaret), Susan Ashton Thistle, Carol Ashton Keefe, Thomas M. Ashton (wife Kathleen); 2 grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

Graveside Services will be held 11:30 AM Thursday (October 22) at the historic Easton Cemetery, N. 7th St., Easton, PA. The Ashton Funeral Home is handling arrangements. I remember Rick as a student. He was a good kid. His father was an excellent Mayor of our city. And his mother was also a good person. He came from a fine family.
