My deepest sympathies for your loss. Bernie was a legend in the field of parasitology. I continue to be amazed at his productivity and his contributions to the field. I knew Bernie since my days in graduate school, and I always enjoyed seeing him at the annual meetings. His legacy will live on in his numerous students and contributions to the scientific record. He will be deeply missed.

My condolences to Grace and their sons. Bernie wrote in my strong support for tenure, Assoc. Prof and Full Prof. I owe him a lot. We shared an interest in echinostomes, Bernie deeply, and me at the periphery.

Bernie was a true gentleman and a mentor to so many students over the years. He is likely responsible for dozens of us becoming physicians and leaders. His commitment to sharing his research space and authorship with so many students was unheard of at the time. Always friendly with a smile on his face and an outstretched hand he was a joy to work with and learn from. Condolences to Grace and his sons.
