Charles William Altemose, Sr., 85, of Palmer Township, died peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023 in Saucon Valley Manor. Born May 2, 1938 in Coplay, he was the son of the late William and Marie (Kroboth) Altemose. His wife of 41 years, Magdalene M. “Mickie” (Nemeth) Altemose died in 2002. Charles graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1956 and served in the US Army stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was discharged in 1963. He also served in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Before entering the Army in 1961, he worked for Grammes Inc. He most recently worked at the Palmer Township Recycling Center until retiring. Prior to that he was a commercial artist for Dixie Cup, Easton for over 15 years until 1980. He was also a technical illustrator at J.T. Baker/Procter & Gamble and various advertising and packaging companies. He was a member of American Legion Brown and Lynch Post #9 and was a bugler with their Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Dixie Bowling League. Charles enjoyed painting watercolor scenes reminiscent of the times spent with his wife. He also enjoyed various forms of music, including classic 1950’s Rock and Roll which he and his wife grew up listening to. He was an avid enthusiast of vintage Lionel trains and 1950’s American cars.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Frances (Altemose) Schmidt and her husband, Joseph Schmidt of Hagerstown, MD; a son, Charles William Altemose, Jr. and his wife, Susan (Abert) Altemose of Hellertown; five granddaughters, Victoria Schmidt, Kelly Schmidt, Elizabeth Altemose, Susan Altemose, and Faith (Grozier) MacLaughlin; and one great grandson. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy “Sister Charlene” Altemose.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until service time on Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine. So many memories talking and laughing with you at Legion, that has been and now will always be missed, you can now rest in peace with your wife who you always missed and talked about since her passing.
