I always had a special appreciation for Chuck’s competent reporting of motor racing over the years, which led to our lasting friendship. He had more of an impact in our sport than he probably realized. Rest in peace, my friend.

I worked with Chuck in motorsports as a PR person. He was one of my favorite writers. He always gave me time to pitch a small story, or buy him a meal so he could tell me stories of his own about my favorite driver Mario Andretti. I learned a lot about journalism from him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Chuck truly defined the word “journalist” while covering local and national auto racing with a passion. His goal was the give the sport of speed the coverage it deserved, while writing insightful stories of a particular race or of the people he interviewed. That was especially so with the “little guy” weekly racers, as Chuck made sure that they were recognized for their efforts. And, his personality and laughter lit up the press room and pit area of the race track!

My condolences to the family. Wanted to let you know that Mr. Givler was my social studies teacher for two years at Belvidere High. Hands down one of my favorite teachers. I liked how he brought current events into the classroom and explained what was happening clearly and without too much bias. He made me really enjoy the political scene and want to become a senator (luckily for me I lost that desire after high school). I also remember his great sense of humor. A solid teacher and person. May he rest in peace.

“Mr. Givler” was my basketball coach and social studies teacher at Belvidere High School. One day in the school library I discovered an auto racing newspaper, I was told that he had placed it there. I looked him up, thanked him, and that auto racing connection between us continued throughout the years. Chuck’s work as motor sports editor at the Easton Express-Times brought both the local and national racing scene alive to his readers. Throughout the years he was always upbeat and ready with a quick quip and a smile. Chuck, many thanks for your friendship and encouragement throughout the years. Sincere sympathies to his family and friends.

Mr Givler (Chuck) was my JV basketball coach for a year and my history teacher at Belvidere.
He was my favorite teacher. He used to say to me ” Mr Allen, you’ re my second favorite student, all the rest are tied for first!”. I also ran into him at Lafayette basketball games.
He will be missed. God’s speed
