Helen Hatges, 79, of Palmer Township, died Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. Born July 1, 1940 in Hrisafa, Sparta, Greece, she was a daughter of the late Dimitrios and Marigo (Karitsiotis) Moschos. Her husband Athanasios “Tom” Hatges died in 2000. She and her husband owned and operated Tom’s Pizzeria in Nazareth for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wilson Borough and their Ladies Philoptochos Society.
She is survived by two children: Nick Hatges of Philadelphia, Georgia Kalavruzos (husband Tim) of Moorestown, NJ; brother: Peter Moschos of Ancaster, Ontario; and three grandchildren: Kosta, Tommy and Andreas. She was predeceased by five siblings: Nicolaos and Konstantinos Moschos, Panagiota Markopoulos, Georgia Kounoupis and Kondilo Zahos.
Helen immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, from Sparta, in the mid-1960’s. She then met her husband, Tom, and they married in 1968 in Easton and was a resident there until her death. For the past 15 years, she spent her summers at her home in Kalamata, Greece, where she spent treasured time with her brothers and sister-in-laws, Magdalini and Pota Moschos. She is also survived by her nieces in Greece, Niki, Aphrodite, Olymbia and Mary, who she loved and cherished dearly. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew in Ontario, Canada, who she also deeply adored: Dimitrios Moschos, Mary Anderton, and Pat Bekeros, and a nephew in Bethlehem, George Kounoupis, Esq. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Maria Hatges and niece, Georgia, from Easton.
She will be missed by her Greek community that she grew to love as her own family. Helen was very easy-going, social, and always wanted to make people smile. Her infectious regard for a great conversation and quick quitted remarks will be missed by many. There is nobody Helen adored more than her grandchildren. For the past 16 years, she doted on them and raised them as if they were her own. Her relentless and tireless determination to raise loving, healthy, and well-respected young men was a feat she accomplished without hesitation. A constant in their lives, she will be missed by these boys more than she will ever know. The love they have for her will only grow deeper in their hearts.
