Lorraine LeVan McCabe, 88, formerly of Easton passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2012.
Born: December 23, 1923 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Wayne and Eleanor Hughes LeVan. She was married to Basil McCabe until he passed away on September 27, 1990, their 46th wedding anniversary.
Personal: A 1942 graduate of Easton High School, she was the ‘41-’42 Drum Majorette, a loyal Red Jacket and on the Rechauffe staff. During WWII she worked for the J.T. Baker Chemical Co. and took chemistry classes at Lafayette College. From 1947 to 1951 she was Vice-Chair of the Northampton County Republican Committee, as well as being involved in the Lafayette College Faculty Wives’ Club and faculty plays, where Basil ’42 was a Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering. From 1951 until 1993 when she returned to live in Easton, Lorraine was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Morristown. Lorraine was an avid reader who loved to cook, bake, care for her family and the family beagles. She and her husband Basil always had a true love for Easton and for Lafayette College to which they were contributors to the Ford Motor Co. challenge-grant campaign, and were Sustaining Members of the Marquis Society for the College’s Annual Endowment Fund. She also truly enjoyed attending EHS and Lafayette reunions.

Bob,
So sorry to learn of the passing of your Mom. She was a very special lady and touched so many lives with her caring manner. Such an up-beat personality, always smiling, always trying to make others feel good. She loved you dearly and you can rest easy knowing that you did all you could to make her comfortable all these years. Our prayers are with you.

I met Lorraine at a Lehigh Valley Chapter luncheon in Marquis Hall when I first came to Lafayette in 1997. I was a “newbie” and she took me under her wing; from that time on, she always told people we were “attached at the hip”. She loved “her” Lafayette and always stopped by the Alumni Office with newspaper clippings about alums; she was proud of all of them and wanted to share the news to make sure they received due credit. I always told her she was the best PR person Lafayette ever had. Lorraine was a lovely person, inside and out. I was extremely fond of her–what a vivacious and caring person. May she rest in peace with her beloved Basil.

I can not tell you how sad I was to see the passing of Lorraine. I have held a warm spot for her in my heart since the day I met her. She always had a smile on her face and always made the best of a bad situation.I met her through the bank not long after her husband passed and like to think I was of some small help to her at that time and going forward..She was so proud of her family and kept me up to date on them all! She was not afraid to speak her mind. She taught me so much. “Have a better day” she would say and that will stay with me forever..I got to meet Bob through Lorraine as well..We had many chats and they both always made me feel like the special one….Your family has been blessed to have such a wonderful mother and grandmother, great-grandmother & aunt..She use to say she was my adopted grandmother for which I will also treasure. My condolences to the entire family….

We were saddened to hear of Lorraine’s passing. For he past 24 years she not only was a family member and friend, but also loved the river as we do. Every time we think of her we smile as she was one of the most interesting, energetic and unique women we ever knew.
We will treasure her boots!!!!
We are happy that the McCabe family came into our lives.
Our thoughts and love are with you.

Bob:
I am very sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. While most of my interaction with the McCabe family was with you, your Mother and Father did make several visits to the bank. I always enjoyed talking to them. Your Father was profoundly interesting, sort of like you. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Your Mom: what an upbeat person. She could certainly brighten a day. She made an impression in South Side. Tom McGinley, one or our directors, was aware of her. She also reveled me with tales of Morristown. You can be proud of the contribution your family is making to society. May you and your family be blessed in the future.
