F. Marian Bittle, 90 of Palmer Twp., PA formerly of Plainfield and Lakewood, NJ died Friday, September 13, 2019 at home. Born September 2, 1929 in Willow Grove, PA she was a daughter of the late Minerva (Garges) and E.A. Reeves. Her husband Irving Bittle died in 2014. She was a member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, Palmer and had been a member and Deaconess of the Evangelical Free Church in Lakehurst, NJ.

She is survived by her children: Susan Carol Harrison (husband Rod) of Palmer Twp., Marian Louise Rosen of Gum Spring, VA, Janet Grace Kopecky (husband Joseph) of Readington, NJ, Edward M. Bittle, Sr. (wife Anne) of Whitehall, NY; sisters: Arline Heath, Mary Ellen Moore; brother: Caswell Reeves; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. A sister: Alice Pittman and brothers: Samuel and Robert Hunsicker all died earlier.

Services are 11 AM Wednesday (Sept. 18) at Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, 715 Chestnut Lane, Easton, PA with a calling period from 10 to 11 AM in the church. Interment is in Schwenksville Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Sara Jeanelle Hoffert, 87, recently of Bethlehem Township, PA., and prior to that, a long-time resident of St. Louis, MO., died Saturday, September 7, 2019, in Hot Springs, AR.

Born March 15, 1932 in London, AR, Jeanelle was one of two daughters of the late Corbett and Mildred (Wade) Rye, of Little Rock, AR. Jeanelle was preceded in death by her loving husband, of nearly 69 years, Fred W. Hoffert, Jr. who passed away, June 3, 2017. Jeanelle was also preceded in death by her younger brother, James C. Rye, of Chicago, IL. Jeanelle worked for Mallinckrodt Chemical, Co., St. Louis, MO, for 25 years. Both Jeanelle, and her husband, were members of Epworth United Methodist Church, Bethlehem, PA. Jeanelle was a woman of faith and believed strongly that she would be reunited with her loved ones in the hereafter.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend of many, Jeanelle is survived by her twin sister, Jeaniece (Rye) Roe, of North Little Rock, AR.; her children, Fred W. Hoffert, III and his wife Elizabeth (Wakeman) Hoffert, of Phoenix, AZ., Dennis K. Hoffert, of St. Louis, MO., her former daughter-in-law, Deborah M. Koenig, of Pensacola, FL., and Cindy L.(Hoffert) Mahaney, and her husband, Raymond L. Mahaney, of Hot Springs Village, AR., and three grandsons, Dennis K. Hoffert, Jr., of Pensacola, FL., Aaron T. Mahaney, of Montevallo, AL., and Andrew P. Mahaney, of Athens, GA.. Jeanelle was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, whom she adored, Kai Morgan and Lily Katelin Hoffert, both of Pensacola, FL., together with sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many friends.

The family would like to extend their thanks to all at Arkansas Hospice, Hot Springs, AR., for the care and support they provided Jeanelle, and her family, in her final days. Jeanelle donated her body for medical research. It is with great sadness to announce that on September 6, 2019, Galen S. Tarboro, 71, of Bethlehem, PA, passed on to a better life and is sorely missed.

Galen was born on January 2, 1948 to Gladys and Oscar L. Tarboro in Somers Point, NJ. He grew up in the city of Bethlehem and is a graduate of Bethlehem High School and York College. He is a Veteran of the United States Army, a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel, and a retired supervisor of the United Parcel Service. Galen is known for his genuine sense of humor, caring personality, and for selflessly assisting others amid his own hardships.

He is predeceased by his mother Gladys, his father Oscar, Sr., and two sisters, Mitzi Brantley and Stephanie A. Stephens. He is survived by his daughter, Shawna Tarboro, three grandchildren, Zechariah who serves in the US Navy, Ashlyn, and Halleiyah Halle. He has two sisters, Arlene Irby, Karen Tarboro Hawkins and six brothers, Oscar, Jr., Gerald, Stephen, Jeffrey, John, and Thomas Tarboro, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Galen also cherished a special relationship with his aunt Fannie Freeman Davis, 96, of Pleasantville, NJ.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in St. Paul Baptist Church, 925 E. Goepp St., Bethlehem. William C. Stackhouse, Sr. of Bethlehem Township, PA passed away on August 31, 2019. He was born April 18, 1924 the son of the late J. Laurence and Belle Scott Stackhouse of Easton. Married to Marjorie Magee, April 11, 1953 at College Hill Presbyterian Church. Marjorie died November 29, 1992. Graduated from Easton High School in 1942. Entered U.S. Naval Reserve December 7, 1942 and served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII. Served on the USS Prometheus (AR-3) as a Quartermaster 3rd Class. Discharged in 1946. Attended Muhlenberg College in the class of 1946 and later graduated from Churchman Business School in Easton. At Muhlenberg he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega and Alpha Kappa Alpha Honorary fraternities. In 1987 to 1989 attended Muhlenberg College and graduated as a certified paralegal. Employment-City of Easton Treasure’s Office 1948-1949, Lafayette Trust Bank 1950-1952, Easton Publishing Co. 1952-1989, Treasurer and Director. Served as a volunteer in the offices of Hemstreet, Nitchkey, and Freidl, 1989 to 2011. Member of Palmer Moravian Church. He served as Trustee, Elder, and Sacristan at the church. He was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Scoutmaster at College Hill Presbyterian Church and also served as a deacon at the church. President of local chapter of CAR (Children of the American Revolution). Attended the national convention of CAR in Washington, DC. Was greeted by Eleanor Roosevelt during a tour of the White House. Served on the Board of the former Community Chest of Easton. In 1955-1956 served on local committee to “Save the Free Bridge” after Hurricane Diane. Committee was able to get the DRJTBC to fix the bridge and set up local commuter fares on the toll bridge. Served as Treasurer of Stones Crossing Swimming Club in its early years. Memberships: Life Member of the Pomfret Club, life member of the Order of the Fleas, member American Legion, Rice Ebner Post #588, Easton Lodge, F&AM #152, Easton Royal Arch Chapter #173, Pomp Council #20, Hugh DePayens Commandery #19, Knights Templar, 32 Rajah Shriner, Blandon, Pa. Easton Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon #35, Forks of the Delaware Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Consistory in the Valley of Scranton. Member of Big Pocono Ski Club. Served as President of Easton Area Jaycees and PA State Regional Vice President. Was awarded a Senator ship in Jaycee International. Hobbies- gardening, bowling, stamp and coin collecting, ocean sailing, deep sea fishing, and camping.

Survivors are his son C. Scott Stackhouse, Sr. and wife Susan of Palmer Township, daughters M. Gail Fragassi and her husband David of Wilson Borough, and Pamela G. Turk and husband David, Seaford, VA. Grandchildren C. Scott Stackhouse Jr. and wife Dana, Allison Stackhouse Bengel and her husband Christopher, and Kristen M. Turk. Great Grandchildren Avery, Nathan and Hayley Stackhouse. Numerous nephews and nieces. Best friends Kenneth C. Snyder, Jr., C.J. Penwell, and the late Jim Hemstreet. William was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years Marjorie, son W. Cuyler Stackhouse Jr., brothers James L. and Donald S. Stackhouse, a sister Helen C. Bradford, and an infant brother.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Palmer Moravian Church, 2901 John St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery. Leona Mae Lewis, 82, of Forks Township, died Monday, August 26, 2019 in Easton Hospital.

Born January 4, 1937 in Wilkes Barre, she was a daughter of the late George and Sara (Searfoss) Shafer. She and her husband, Allen R. Lewis, were married 61 years.

She was a graduate of Churchman Business School and was a member of Pocono Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Surviving with her husband, Allen, are 4 sons, Stephen, David, Jonathan and Daniel Lewis; a brother, George Shafer, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Forks Cemetery.
