Richard G. Transue

Richard G. Transue, 82, of Easton, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Easton Hospital.

Born December 10, 1935 in Easton, he was a son of the late Gobin Transue and Margaret (Werner) Polidoro.  He and his beloved wife, Jean (Ray) Transue were married 63 years.

Richard served in the Air Force during the Korean War and worked at Dixie Cup for 35 years until retiring in 1996.

Surviving with his wife, Jean, is his loving family, daughters, Margaret Breiner and her husband, Richard, of Easton; Deborah Katz and her husband, Michael, of Telford; Sandy Daiello of Easton and Linda Daiello and her husband, Joseph, of Easton; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Julio T. Flores

Julio T. Flores, 83 of Easton, PA died Monday, October 22, 2018 at Easton Hospital. He was born June 22, 1935 in Puerto Rico of the Catholic faith. He had been employed by Ingersoll-Rand for many years before retiring and is survived by his children: Julio Thomas (wife Amanda) and Judy Thomas all of Easton; his grandson: Nicolas Thomas and great-grandson: Dezmond.

Doris M. Tindall

Doris M. Tindall

Doris M. (Brown) Tindall, 90 of Wilson Borough, PA died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at home. Born January 26, 1928 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Malcie (Hensler) and Walter Brown. She had been employed by Brown’s Dairy, the Joseph’s and May’s Clothing Stores and part-time at the Toll Bridge. She was a 1945 graduate of Easton High School and member of New Creation United Church of Christ, Palmer Twp., PA.

She is survived by sons: Walter D. Tindall and his wife Nancy of Bethlehem, PA, James R. Tindall, Sr. of Wilson Borough; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law: Esther Brown. She was predeceased by her husband Walter G. Tindall, Jr. in 2004, her son John W. Tindall in August; 2 brothers and a sister.

Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday (Oct. 23) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with visitation 6 to 7:30 PM Monday. Interment is in Northampton Memorial Shrine. Offer online condolences at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com.

Martin “Marty” Zippel

Martin “Marty” Zippel, 96, formerly of Easton, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Jupiter, Florida.

Born February 7, 1922 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Hyman and Clara (Schuster) Zippel.  His wife, Doris L. (Levin) Zippel died in 2003.

He owned Martin Zippel Co., a toy distributer in Phillipsburg, NJ.  Marty was a sports hero, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, a prize winning Scholar Athlete at his beloved Lafayette College, a professional basketball player, a successful businessman, a humanitarian, and a philanthropist.  He was a pillar of the community in Easton where he resided for 70 years.  He was President of the Boys & Girls Club of Easton, President of the B’nai Abraham Synagogue, President of the Toy Wholesalers Association, a Trustee of Lafayette College, active in the Jewish Federation of Lehigh Valley, Chairman of the Board of Lafayette Bank, and a scratch golfer.  His kindness and generosity were widely known and he touched the lives of countless people.

He is survived by a son, David Zippel, and his husband, Michael Johnston; a daughter, Joanne Zippel and her partner, John Skolas; a brother, Irving Zippel; two grandchildren, Zachary and Erica Schnitzer; and his good friend, Elly Singer.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in B’nai Abraham Synagogue, 1545 Bushkill St., Easton.  Interment in B’nai Abraham Cemetery, Forks Township.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Barbara A. Schlough

Barbara A. Schlough, 77, of Forks Township, formerly of West Easton, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Easton Hospital.

Born April 16, 1941 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Helen (Starner) Ahart.

Barbara worked at Ingersoll Rand, Phillipsburg and later at Dixie Cup, Forks Township.  She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Easton.

Surviving are two sons, Kevin Schlough and his wife, Susan, with whom she resided and Douglas Schlough and his wife, Christie, of Palmer Township; two brothers, Ronald Ahart and Jack Ahart; and two grandchildren, Brett and Brooke.  His siblings, Kenneth, Frank, Helen and Shirley died earlier.

Services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 25, 2018 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until service time on Thursday in the funeral home.  Interment in Easton Cemetery.

Mary Dolores Shaughnessy Metz

Mary Shaughnessy Metz

Mary Dolores Shaughnessy Metz, 78, of Palmer Twp., PA died Thursday evening, October 11, 2018 at her home. Born March 30, 1940 in Atchison, Kansas she was a daughter of the late Dolores (Kramer) and Edward Boos. In 1961, she married the late Edward Shaughnessy, former Professor at Lafayette College, with whom she had two sons. Her husband Bernard J. Metz, Sr. died in December of 2017. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Scholastica and St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri.  She was a nurse for over 50 years, primarily at Easton Hospital, before retiring in 2013. She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church. She was a devoted Wife and Mother, an exceptional gardener, and brought light, laughter and joy to all who knew her. She was no stranger to fun.

She is survived by her sons: Atty. Edward Shaughnessy (wife Ellen), Michael Shaughnessy; step-sons: David Parsons (wife Barbara), BJ Metz, Jr. (wife Kristie Hoeflein) and brothers: Ed and Phil Boos. Siblings Ray and Joanne died earlier.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton with visitation 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements. Interment will be private in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Raffaele DePamphilis

Raffaele DePamphilis, 91, of Martins Creek, formerly of Easton, died Thursday, October 11, 2018 in his home.

Born July 4, 1927 in Sulmona, Italy, he was a son of the late Giuseppe and Viola (Stern) DePamphilis.  His wife, Lucia (Caporaso) DePamphilis, died in 1993.

Raffaele was a local artist and he owned and operated Raffaele Dip’ N Strip, Forks Township for 35 years.  He was a member of ACE and an avid fisherman.

Surviving are four daughters, Caroline Eppinger and her husband, Chuck, of Saylorsburg; Violetta DePamphilis with whom he resided, Anne Schultheis and her husband, Eric, of Saylorsburg; and Claudia DePamphilis and her friend, Sam Lobb, of Williams Township; two sisters, Maria Teresa D’Archivio and Thea D’Orazio of Italy; and eleven grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, October 19, 2018 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until service time on Friday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
