Judith S. Everett, 79, of Palmer Twp., PA, died Thursday, May 3, 2018 at home with her daughters by her side. Born July 29, 1938 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude (Stuckel) Seifert. She was a 1956 graduate of Easton High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University and her Master’s in Education from Lehigh University. Judy taught 7th grade life science for the Easton Area School District for 34 years and in her own words: “loved every day of it!”

She was a very active 40 year member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church where she was involved in SAW and served on the Nursery School Board. She was also very active in the community, volunteering for many organizations including Safe Harbor and the Woman’s Board of Easton Hospital. Always willing to provide meals for those in need, she loved baking, cooking, and making soup for others.

She is survived by 3 daughters: Susan E. Walther (husband Tom) of Elkins Park, PA, Kristen A. Everett (husband Woody Truitt) of Jefferson, MD, Jennifer Everett (partner Mark Hartman) of Yap, Micronesia; sisters-in-law: Dolores Seifert and Karen Nowak (husband Walt); 6 grandchildren: Andrew, Erik, Erin, Gabrielle, Eva, Reuben; niece and nephew: Lori and Scott; and cousin: Bruce. Her husband John M. Everett and her brother Richard Seifert predeceased her.

A memorial service will be held 3:30 PM Thursday (May 10) in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 3900 Freemansburg Ave., Easton, PA with a calling period 2:30 to 3:30 PM. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Catherine L. Joyce, 61 of Easton died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Easton Hospital. Born June 25, 1956 in Flemington, NJ she was the daughter of Shirley (Hart) Collazo of Lambertville, NJ and the late Juan Collazo. A graduate of S. Hunterdon HS, she was a member of Concordia Maennerchor, Little Palmer Vol. Fire Co. and of the catholic faith.

She is survived by her mother: Shirley; her husband of 31 years: Matthew Joyce; daughters: Jessica Joyce (fiancé Kevin McNally) of W. Easton; Jacqueline Gonzalez (husband Dilman) of Forks Twp.; brother: John Collazo of Arizona; sisters: Julie Wirick of Easton, Rose Ennis of Lambertville; 3 granddaughters and 5 grandsons. A son Joshua Leighton and her first husband Donald Leighton died earlier.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Monday (May 7) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be private.

Allen L. Schluger, 86, of Easton, passed away May 1, 2018, at Easton Hospital. This creative, people-loving man was the husband of Barbara Conover Schluger; they were married for 46 precious years. Born January 18, 1932 in Los Angeles he was the son of the late Leon and Sadie Schluger. Allen grew up in Philadelphia, where he attended high school. After serving in the army in a MASH Unit in Korea, he pursued formal study of literature and language at the Università per Stranieri in Perugia and of music and theater arts in Vienna (where he appeared in small roles in a number of films, supplied the English undertitles to the film Sisi and briefly hobnobbed with Walt Disney and his staff).

Allen then moved to New York City and a brief acting career there including a role in its famous Shakespeare Festival. This was followed, in the dynamic years of the late 1960s and early 1970s, by his stint as advertising manager of the avant garde magazine Evergreen Review, published by Grove Press.  Allen then spent many years as the independent marketer of his numerous and innovative patented and licensed packages.  Creativity in these various areas led to his recent authorship of several unique novels and novellas.

May an afterlife provide Allen with his classic Porsche and BMW motorcycle, and beautiful music.

In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by dear sisters Dorothy Shooster and Pearl Nipon,  her husband Albert Nipon, sister-in-law Peggy Garwood, brother-in-law Robert Garwood, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral arrangements with the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton are private. A memorial open house is planned in early June.

William H. “Bill” Bishop Jr., formerly of Easton, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Normandy Farms retirement-life community in Blue Bell, PA. He would have been 95 years old in July. His wife was the former Jeanne Moser, now deceased, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Bill was the son of the late William H. Bishop Sr. and Emily A. (Werner) Bishop. He attended public schools in Easton and graduated from the former Penn State College in May 1943. He immediately entered Infantry Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA, graduating as a Second Lieutenant.  He served with the 84th Infantry Division through the WW II campaigns of Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 with the rank of Captain.

Bill was employed by the former JT Baker Chemical Co. of Phillipsburg, NJ for 36 years. During that time he was a founding member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society and served as Director of Purchasing at Baker for 15 years. He was a member of the NY Purchasing Agents Association and achieved the title of Certified Purchasing Manager. After his retirement from JT Baker in 1983, he was a self-employed sales consultant for Davos Chemical of Fort Lee, NJ, retiring again in 1995.A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Easton for over 66 years, he taught Sunday School and served on the church council property and finance committees.  He was a great lover of classical music and sang in the church choir.

He is survived by his two children: William H. Bishop III (Mary Ellen Cassidy) of Blue Bell and Susan (Bishop) Soraruf(L. Peter) of Kennett Square, PA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and his companion of several years, Marilyn Workman, formerly of Easton. He was predeceased by a brother Richard Bishop and sister Carolyn (Bishop) Collinge.

Services are 11 AM Monday (April 30) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NJ.

Carlos M. Marques, 49, of Forks Township, passed quietly to meet his God at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown after a long illness.  He continued to work until three weeks prior to his demise.

Immigrating to the United States from Viseu, Portugal, he strived to reach the American dream, following the rules of obtaining a green card and then, what he considered the proudest day of his life, becoming an American Citizen in Northampton County.

He was known by his many friends for his generosity and he contributed often to American charities.

Carlos loved the American automobiles, his favorite being his Corvette.

When suggested that he might want to return to his family in Portugal for his last days, Carlos refused saying that he would die in the greatest country in the world where he had obtained his American dream.

He will be missed by a wide circle of friends.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of his adopted family.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Douglas P. Collins III, 25 of Easton, PA, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. Born February 12, 1993, he was the beloved son of Nancy Moser Collins and the late Douglas P. Collins Jr.  He was a graduate of Easton High School Class of 2011. As an undergraduate, Douglas studied Construction Management with a minor in Architecture at Philadelphia University. He was a member of his college’s Architectural International Brigade which travelled to Honduras for humanitarian work building schools. Douglas loved to go on adventures with his Pop Pop and found unique ways to get to and from Philadelphia with his Aunt Barb. He enjoyed music from playing the string bass to finding new songs to share. His artistic talent and passion for design led him to study architecture.

On his family vacations, Douglas was always excited to chase sand crabs at the beach with a flashlight, only to scream and run the other way once they got too close.  He adored his sons, who share the same infectious high pitched scream. Always a team player, he would allow his cousin Elaina to dress him as “Douglina”, which may have led to his flair for fashion. He was also a skilled player during cousin hide and go seek games and knew the rules in and out when it came to foosball. Nothing topped Douglas’s knowledge and skill at Dance Dance revolution.  He was the master, due to the fact he claimed the “better” mat. Even in his greatest defeats by brother Ian, the “game sliders” were always on.

He is survived by his mother: Nancy; brother: Ian of Easton; grandparents: Russell and Margaret Moser of Raubsville, PA; sons: Douglas and Keegan; beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM, Friday (April 27) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with Services to follow at Noon. Interment will be private.
