Arthur M. Berg

Arthur M. Berg, 91 of Palmer Twp., PA died Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Easton Hospital. Born July 27, 1927 in New York, NY he was a son of the late William and Sadie (Sanders) Berg. He was a graduate of W. Philadelphia HS and the General Motors Institute of Technology. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII and was the owner/president of the William Berg, Inc. Volvo and GMC Dealership in Easton for more than 35 years before retiring. Art was a member and served on the Board of the Temple Covenant of Peace, Easton. He was a longtime member of the Easton Rotary Club, Treasurer of the former VNA of Easton and Treasurer of the Big Ridge Hunting Club for 42 years. He was also a Boy Scout leader and Past-President of the Northampton County Auto Dealers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years the former Phyllis Rosenblum; son: Ronald Berg and his wife Barbara of Newtown, PA, daughter: Randi Numbers and her husband Scott of Columbia, SC; and 4 grandchildren: Jason and Alison Berg, Leah and Evan Numbers. He was predeceased by his twin brother: Edwin R. Berg and sister: Beverly Kass.

A Graveside Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday (Mar. 27) at Easton Cemetery, N. 7th St., Easton. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

John M. Wollman

John M. “Red” “Johnny Boy” Wollman, 54 of Easton, PA died Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg with his wife at his bedside. Born April 13, 1964 in Phillipsburg, NJ he was a son of the late Algia (DePaolis) Famularo and Rich Haring. He attended Phillipsburg High School and had a career in the construction industry working at Strobers Building Supply, Hygrade Roofing, Larkens and Warren Lumber. He was a member of Concordia Maennerchor and an avid Redskins fan. Known as “Johnny Boy” and “Red” by his family and friends, he was a generous and caring man and a devoted nephew. He was quick to offer help and make cheerful conversation with jokes and laughter. As William Wordsworth said, “The best portion of a good man’s life is his little nameless unremembered acts of kindness and of love.” That exemplifies how Johnny lived his life and how he will be remembered.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda (Hall) Wollman; his siblings: Lisa Stokes, Rich Haring, Tammy Famularo; aunts and uncles, including Aunt Pat Patterson; nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved them all.

John F. McMurtrie

John F. McMurtrie, 77 of Easton, PA died Saturday, March 23, 2019 at ManorCare, Palmer Twp., PA. Born September 5, 1941 in Bethlehem, PA he was a son of the late John and Dorothy (Frankenfield) McMurtrie. His wife, the former Florence Kiehl, died in 1996. He had been employed by Lehigh University for many years before retiring in 1997.

He is survived by a daughter: Lisa McMurtrie of Easton; a niece: Robin Pudliner of Freemansburg, PA with whom he had resided; 2 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. A brother Robert died earlier.

Beverly Lillian Purdy

Beverly Lillian Purdy, 78, of Easton, died Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in her home.

Born July 11, 1940 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Lillian (Milford) Hartzell. Her husband, Edgar A. Purdy died in 2017.

She worked at MCS Industries, Easton, was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg and graduated from Easton High School in 1958.

Surviving are her children, Dr. Jill Purdy and her spouse, Rosemary Grube; Ellen Patterson and her husband, Glenn and Mark Purdy; brothers, Edward Hartzell and Buddy Jemola; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her sisters, Paula Urteaga and Patricia Hartzell died earlier.

Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Monday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Easton Heights Cemetery.

Erwin C. Deemer

Erwin C. Deemer, 90 of Easton, PA died Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the New Eastwood Care Center. Born July 5, 1928 in Easton he was a son of the late Chester and Florence (Scull) Deemer. His wife, the former Yolanda Virgilio died in 2013. He was a member of the Merchant Marine and employed by the former Dixie Cup Company for 30 years before retiring. Prior to that he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a life member of the Fleas, Citizen Hose, Liberty Hose and member of Safety First and American Legion.

He is survived by his children: Linda Shober and her husband Michael of Bethlehem Twp., PA, Wayne Deemer and his wife Michelle of Easton,  Nora Deppen of Bethlehem Twp., Ronald Deemer of Wilson Borough; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Hope L. Greffe

Hope L. Greffe, 91 of Drums, PA formerly of Easton, PA died Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Mountaintop Care Center. Born October 13, 1927 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Kline) Smith. She had been employed by the Crayola Company for 22 years before retiring. Hope was a lifetime member of Arndt’s Lutheran Church and loved to bowl with her bowling league.

She is survived by her children: Marcha Smull with whom she resided, Alfred Greffe and his wife Leslie of Florida; 6 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her sisters: Betty Dietz, Jane Francis and brother: John Smith, Jr. died earlier.

Services are 11:00 AM Tuesday (Mar. 19) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with visitation 10 to 11 AM. Interment is in Arndt’s Cemetery, Forks Twp., PA.

June A. Bellew, 92 of Easton, PA died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at home. Born April 29, 1926 in Easton she was a daughter of the late Harold and Irene (Hermany) Laros. Her husband Joseph A. Bellew died in 1976. June was a Registered Nurse.

She is survived by her 6 children: Kathleen Tippins, Kevin Bellew, Terese Bellew all of Easton, Maureen Moroney Russen of Bethlehem, PA, Louise Birmingham of West Chester, PA, Jeanette Duggan of Lake Placid, NY; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Interment services were held on August 29, 2019 in Long Island National Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Jocelyn Marin, 31, of Bethlehem, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

Born September 27, 1987 in Jersey City, NJ, she was a daughter of Lina Faberlle.

Surviving with her mother, Lina, are her sisters, Carolyn Hernandez and Shirlyn Ramos and her grandparents, Jose Marin and Luz Santiago.
