Harry Youngkin

Harry Youngkin, 94, of Easton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Old Orchard Health Care Center.

Born on August 17, 1923 in Easton, he was the son of the late Harry and Bertha (Martin) Youngkin.

Harry graduated from Easton High School in 1942.  He served in the 102nd Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the U.S in WWII and was a member of VFW Post 1290, Easton.

In his early years, he was employed by Ehrie Roofing Company.  He was a member of the Easton Fire Department for 23 years where he served with pride.  After retiring, he worked as a custodian in the Easton Area School District.

Harry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He will be remembered as a principled, moral man who valued hard work and honesty, a product of the old fashioned values of “the greatest generation.”  He instilled those values in his children.

Harry dedicated his life to his family.  He adored his grandchildren, rarely missing an EAHS football game when his grandson, John, played, and he fawned over his granddaughters, Gemella, Elizabeth and great-grandson, Seamas.

He had an affinity for outdoor activities; he was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed trips to scenic places like Jacobsburg Park and Minsi Lake.

Harry is survived by Carmella (Pintande) Youngkin, his wife of 69 years; son, Anthony Youngkin; stepson, John Pinto and his wife, Lois; grandchildren, Gemella Pinto McNally, John Pinto, and Elizabeth Youngkin; great-grandson, Seamas McNally; and niece, Judith Frawley.

He was predeceased by his son, James Youngkin; stepsisters, Virginia Ehrie and Annette Ostroff; stepbrother, James Pittinger; and niece Diane Snyder.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until service time on Saturday in the funeral home.  Interment will be private in Easton Cemetery.

Virginia B. Schlichter

March 21, 2018

Virginia B. Schlichter, 90 of Palmer Twp., PA died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Easton Hospital. Born October 18, 1927 in Easton she was a daughter of the late Paul and Virginia Bechtel. A 1945 graduate of Easton High School, she had been employed by Met-Ed for 45 years before retiring. She was a secretary, with her husband, for the Northampton County SPCA for 8 years. She had a passion for caring for animals and she also enjoyed ceramics.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Easton.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years: Richard S. Schlichter and her cats: Miss Kitty and Tiger. Services and burial in Easton Cemetery will be private. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Grete Marie Hollesen

March 19, 2018

Grete Marie (Topp) Hollesen, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Ledgewood Nursing Center in Beverly, Mass.  She was born July 11, 1928 in Lynn, Mass. to Elsa and Henrick Topp.

Grete was married to Karl M. Hollesen for 56 years. Surviving her are sons, David B. Hollesen and his wife Jean, of Hillsborough, NJ; and Kai M. Hollesen and his wife Elizabeth, of Beverly, Mass. She was predeceased by son, Jeffrey E. Hollesen of New York City, NY.  Grete was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Emily, Erik, Nathan and Anna. Surviving siblings are sisters Alma Elo of Bath, Pa.; Doris Shirck of Lititz, Pa.; and brother Carl Topp of Lynn, Mass.

Robert L. Frick, Sr.

Robert L. Frick, Sr.

Robert L. Frick, Sr. 94 of Forks Twp., PA passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, March 18, 2018 of natural causes. Born May 9, 1923 in Easton he was a son of the late Leslie and Carrie (Bigley) Frick. He was a Motor Machinist’s Mate in the Navy during WWII and was the President of Frick Transfer, Inc. where he worked for most of his life. He was also a part-time Forks Township Police Officer and founding member of Fellowship Church in Phillipsburg.

He is survived by his son: Robert L. Frick, Jr. (wife Karen); 3 granddaughters: Penelope Swingle, Bree Fehnel, Carey Frick; 6 great-grandchildren; brother: Donald Frick and sister: Lee Messinger. His beloved wife Lois (Jenney) Frick and daughter: Lois-Jean Crivellaro died earlier.

A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday (March 23) at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Rd., Easton with military honors. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Janet M. Leone

March 15, 2018

Janet M. Leone of Easton passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Luke’s Anderson Campus with her loving sister and her loyal friend by her side. Born in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Nicola and Rose Leone. She was a graduate of Easton High School, the Easton Hospital School of Nursing and the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Anesthesia. She was employed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by Easton Hospital for 40 years before retiring. She was very proud of the fact that she never “lost” a patient in all her years. She dedicated her life to her family and her work, treating her patients like family and always willing to help others.

She was a member of the Italian Culture Club, the Arba Sicula Club and numerous Anesthetist Associations. She had also been active in the Hillcrest Camera Club and was the recipient of numerous photography awards.  Janet loved to travel around the world even to remote places. She was spunky, full of life and a very special person.

She will be missed by her best friend and sister: Rosalie Leone with whom she resided; her brother: Nicholas Leone of Easton; and many friends who loved her. A sister Amelita Leone died in 1994.

Services are 11 AM Thursday (March 22) with a calling period 10:30 to 11 AM in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment is in Easton Cemetery.

Belva Y. Deiter

Belva Y. Deiter, 73, of Easton, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in The Gardens at Easton.

Born January 22, 1945 in Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of the late Frank Edward Heinz and Daisy E. (Statler) Heinz.

Belva was a member of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, Easton where she was an active volunteer.

Surviving are her son, Bryan Timothy Deiter, her daughter, Theresa Ann Deiter and a grandson.  Her brother, Charles Van Why, died earlier.

A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 55 S. Fourth St., Easton on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10:00 am.  Interment will be private.

Edward Joseph Smith

Edward Joseph Smith

Edward Joseph Smith, 71 formerly of Havertown, PA died Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the Gardens of Memory Care, Easton, PA. Born December 21, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Edward and Rose Mary Smith. A 1965 graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He had been employed as a health care technician and was an avid pool player.

He is survived by his children: Jeffrey and his wife Linette of Easton,  Paul of Landsdale, PA, Ashley and her husband Richard Noboa of N. Wales, PA; step-children; 3 sisters; 10 grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. His wife Adele died in 2010.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10 AM Monday, March 26 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 41 E. Baltimore Ave., Lansdowne, PA with a calling hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be private. Walter T. “Tink” Morrison

Walter T. “Tink” Morrison, 63, of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, March 11, 2018.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Walter and Hazel (Holder) Morrison.

He was a driver for PennDot and served in the Marines during the Vietnam War.  He also had a passion for racing.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa (Davies) Morrison, a daughter, Krissy Morrison, 3 sisters, Ann Bori, Cathy Bellmore and Elly Morrison and 4 grandchildren.  His son, Walter “Bonez” Morrison died earlier.
