Antoinette Currey

Antoinette (Marcario) Currey, 87 of Stanhope, NJ died Jan. 24, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Easton, PA.  Born September 18, 1929 in Bayonne, NJ she was a daughter of the late Adela (Cassano) and Gaetano Marcario. She had been employed by Aetna Insurance in NY, the Naval Base in Bayonne, NJ and for many years she was a teacher’s aide in Byram Twp., New Jersey.

She is survived by her son Raymond Currey of Stanwood, WA; daughter: Joan Haslach of Easton; brother: Joseph Marcario in FL; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Her husband Raymond J. Currey died earlier.

A calling period will be held 12 PM to 1:30 PM Thursday (Jan. 26) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment will be private.

Elfriede A. Krug

Elfriede A. Krug

Elfriede A. Krug, 79 of Palmer Twp., PA died Monday, January 23, 2017 at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth. Born March 30, 1937 in Munich, Germany she was a daughter of the late Josef and Rosina (Schaeffler) Thaller. She and her husband Alfred J. Krug have been married for 56 years.

She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer Twp. and volunteered for the Weller Center and Children’s Home of Easton. A strong woman who loved to travel and to cook, Elfriede came to the United States from Germany with her husband and infant son in 1968, before settling in Palmer Twp.

She is survived by her husband Alfred; a son: Oliver and his wife Lisette of Switzerland; a daughter: Claudia Lea and her husband Patrick of Oakland, CA; and 2 grandchildren: Dani and Luca. She was predeceased by a son: Daniel R. Krug in 2002 and her brother: Gerhard Thaller.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Saturday (Jan.28)  in St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton with visitation 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church.  Interment: Northampton Memorial Shrine. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Robert E. “Bob” Baker

Robert E. Baker

Robert E. “Bob” Baker, 89 of Easton, PA died Monday, January 23, 2017 at Abington Manor Memory Care Village, Easton, PA. Born May 3, 1927 in Phillipsburg, NJ he was a son of the late Sam and Mary (Vaughn) Baker. He was employed by the City of Easton in the Water Department for many years before retiring. He was also a self -employed plumber.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley (Cook) Baker; step-children: Patricia DeWalt, Wayne Springfield, Robin Woolf, Glenn Springfield; many grand and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife: Thelma (Ludwik); son: Robert Baker, Jr.; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Janet E. Frankenfield

Janet E. Frankenfield, 83, of Easton, died Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Easton Hospital.

Born July 2, 1933 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Tomino) McCann.  She and her husband, Marvin Frankenfield, were married 61 years.

Janet worked at Treher-Montague, Easton for 25 years and retired in 1989.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Third Lutheran Church, Palmer Township and The Congregational United Church of Christ, Punta Gorda, Florida.

Surviving with her husband, Marvin, are two daughters, Nancy Allegrezza and her husband, Fred, of Line Lexington, PA and Charlotte Arter and her husband, James, of Hamilton, VA; a son, Charles Frankenfield of Philadelphia; a son-in–law, James Foanio of Largo, FL; and six grandchildren.  Her daughter, Susan Foanio and her brother, James McCann, died earlier.

Services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, January 26, 2017 in St. Paul’s Third Lutheran Church, 2561 Newburg Rd., Palmer Township.  Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton and from 9:30 am until service time Thursday in the church.

Andrew R. Merwarth

Andrew R. Merwarth

Andrew R. “Andy” Merwarth, 49 of Palmer Twp., PA died Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital.  He was born Nov. 21, 1967 in Easton, PA and graduated from Faith Christian School, Roseto in 1985. Andy worked in the family business, Merwarth’s Floral Shop for many years before their closing. He was a member of the Blessed Hope Church of the Nazarene where he loved doing things for the youth of the church.

He is survived by his mother: Bonnie (Brunstetter) Steuer and her husband Franklin with whom he resided; his father: Donald Merwarth and his wife Christine of Easton, PA; 2 sisters: Jennifer Hawk and Martha Zavala both of Forks Twp., PA; 2 brothers: Jonathan Merwarth of Bethlehem, PA, Stephen Merwarth of Tobhanna, PA; and his beloved 6 nieces and 6 nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Saturday (Jan.28) in the Blessed Hope Church of the Nazarene, 42 Mercer St., Phillipsburg, NJ.

Gladys A. Heller

Gladys A. Heller, 86, of Palmer Township, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Hershey Medical Center.

Born July, 31, 1930 in Bethlehem Township, she was a daughter of the late Sanves and Anna (Wagner) Clause.  Her husband, John T. “Jack” Heller died in 2013.

Gladys worked for Beefeaters Restaurant and A & D Tile and Paint-Up, Easton.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Farmersville and loved to travel with her husband.

Surviving are a son, Kevin N. Heller and his wife, Mary Beth, a daughter, Sherry Lynn Heller and three grandchildren.

Services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton.  A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until service time on Saturday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Konstantinos N. “Gus” Hatges

Konstantinos N. “Gus” Hatges, 71, of Palmer Township, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 in his home.

Born August 15, 1945 in Nea Figalia, Greece, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Georgia (Flessas) Hatges. He and his wife, Maria (Pavlos) Hatges were married 34 years.

Gus owned the Dolly Madison Restaurant, Easton and the Portland Diner, Portland Borough. He was a very hard worker and created many great things for his wife and daughter. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wilson Borough.

Surviving with his wife, Maria, is his daughter, Georgia Hatges. He has four brothers that have passed in earlier years. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces here and in Greece. He loved all of them very much like they were his own. He treated everyone with respect, kindness, and love. He took care of the needs of many especially all of his extended family here and in Greece. He was always the first to show them love and support in good and bad times. He put his wife, daughter, and all his family before the needs of his own. He was truly a great man that will be missed terribly and forever.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 319 S. 20th Street, Wilson Borough. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday in the church and from noon until service time Thursday in the church. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Edwin A. Crane

Edwin A. Crane, 88, of Bethlehem Township, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital.

Born April 18, 1928 in Caldwell, NJ, he was a son of the late Harold A. and Gertrude (Brooks) Crane.  His wife, Doris M. (Capanna) Crane died in 2015.

He was an engineer for Fuller Co., Bethlehem.  Prior to that he worked for T. A. Coughlin & Co., Bethlehem and Dixie Cup, Wilson Borough.  He graduated from Wilson High School in 1946 and Lafayette College in 1950 and was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton.

Surviving are a son, Stephen A. Crane and his wife, Carol of St. Georges, Delaware; a daughter, Susan M. Crane of Alpharetta, Georgia; and two grandsons, Evan and Ryan Crane.  His brother, Norman Crane died earlier.

Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.
