Richard H. Hageman

January 10, 2017

Richard Harry Hageman, 93 of Palmer Twp., PA died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at ManorCare, Palmer Twp.  Born February 27, 1923 in Easton, PA he was a son of the late Carl D. and Ruth L. (Hester) Hageman. His wife Mildred Helen (Boehm) Hageman died in 2010.

A 1940 graduate of Wilson High School he was employed by Taylor Wharton, Sheridan Machine and Hoffman-LaRoche before retiring.  He was a WWII army veteran and member of the American Legion Post #9; the 65th Infantry Division Association; and a charter member of the Armed Forces Museum Foundation. He was also a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; Easton Chapter #173; Royal Arch Masons; Easton Lodge #152, F & AM; Dallas-Lafayette Lodge #396 F & AM; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; the Lehigh Valley Zipper Club and an avid bowler.

He is survived by sons: Richard C. and his wife Catherine of Saylorsburg, PA, Brian V. with whom he resided; 5 grandchildren: Timothy, Matthew, Andrea, Jennifer and James; 9 great-grandchildren: Alexia, Connor, Brayden, Logan, Teagan, Luke, Millie, Maddox and Asher; and step-grand and great-grandchildren: Joanna, Helen, Michael, Carter, Caiden, Savanah and Julius. His wife Mildred, son David, brother Vance and sisters: Joyce and Maude all died earlier

Services are 10:30 AM Friday, (Jan. 13) in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2115 Washington Blvd., Easton, PA with visitation 9:30 to 10:30 AM; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.  Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Ada E. Beegle

January 10, 2017

Ada E. Beegle, 95 formerly of Wilson Borough died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Gracedale. Born September 30, 1921 in Stroudsburg, PA she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Hartman) Williams. Her husband Harry A. Beegle died in 1974. A 1940 graduate of Pocono High School, she had been employed by Dixie Cup Co. for 35  years before retiring in 1983. Ada was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the former Christ Lutheran Church in Easton. She also attended the Easton Senior Center.

She is survived by 3 sons: William of Dover, DE, Richard and his wife Mary of Bethlehem Twp., PA, Thomas of Wilson Borough; 3 daughters: Ann Flank and her husband Jerry of Williams Twp., PA, Linda Wettlaufer and her husband Thomas of Washington Twp., PA, Mariclare Groller and her husband George of Easton, PA; a brother: Norman Williams; 4 sisters: Agnes Hennet, Mary Jane Lucrezi, Ednamae Schaffer, Alice Jean Scot; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Siblings: Paul and Ernest Williams, Margaret Faulstick, Ruth Ann Yetter and Helen Lockard all died earlier.

Services are 10:30 AM Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with a calling period 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

David L. Freeman

January 9, 2017

David L. Freeman, 65, of West Easton, died Monday, January 9, 2017 in Easton Hospital.

Born September 5, 1951 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of Tony and Lillian (Freeman) Gaines.

He was a graduate of Easton Area High School, served in the US Navy and worked at Lafayette College.

Surviving with his parents are his children, David Freeman, Jr., Drew Freeman and Tracy Holmes, a brother, Tim Freeman and 4 grandchildren.

Henrietta C. Pessin

Henrietta C. Pessin, 89 formerly of Wilson Borough, PA died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Atria of Bethlehem.  Born October 19, 1927 in New York City she was a devoted daughter of the late Joseph and Mollie (Davis) Pessin. She graduated from Easton High School in 1946 and received her Bachelor’s degree in education from East Stroudsburg University and her Master’s degree from Lehigh University in 1955. She taught first grade in the Easton Area School District for 42 years, 28 years at Porter School and 14 years at Tracy Elementary before retiring in 1993.

She was a member of Bnai Abraham Synagogue, Easton; the Sisterhood; the Deborah Society; and a life member of Hadassah. Henrietta was also a member of the PA State Education Association, AAUW Easton Chapter, a Meals on Wheels volunteer and a life member of the National Education Association and the PA Association of Retired School Teachers.

She is survived by a brother Herbert Pessin and his wife Jo-anne of Kennett Square, PA and beloved nieces and nephews. A brother Arnold died earlier.

Services are 1:30 PM Monday (Jan. 9) in the Bnai Abraham Synagogue, 1545 Bushkill St., Easton; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.  Interment in Bnai Abraham Cemetery, Forks Twp.

Mary Stamus

Mary Stamus, 87 of Easton, PA died Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Easton Hospital. Born December 29, 1929 in Easton she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Georgia (Varzakis) Cochios.  Her husband Louis P. Stamus died in 2010. A 1947 graduate of Easton High School she had been employed by Charles Pfreimer, Inc. and Mack Printing. She was a member of the Greek Annunciation Orthodox Church, Wilson Borough, PA.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, a step-son and step-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband Louis, brothers: William and Charles Cochios, sister: Bertha Nicholas and a step-daughter.

Service is 11 AM Monday (Jan. 9) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton followed by interment in Easton Cemetery.

Katharine Maria ” Katie” Natvig

Katharine Maria "Katie" Natvig

Katharine Maria “Katie” Natvig, 69, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 9, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Sarah and Johan Natvig. A graduate of Swarthmore High School and Cedar Crest College, she worked for 47 years in the field of social services in the Lehigh Valley. She was a full-time caseworker with the Northampton County Department of Public Assistance until retiring in 2004 and worked part-time up to the present as a crisis intervention counselor in Lehigh, Northampton, and Warren counties.

She is survived by her brother, Martin Natvig of Longmont, Colorado, many loving friends, and her cat Lucy.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM, Saturday, January 14 at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 Tilghman St., Allentown. Interment will be private. Joan Florence Levandowski

Joan Florence Levandowski, 86 of Easton, PA died Monday, January 2, 2017 at home. Born February 6, 1930 in East St. Louis, IL she was a daughter of the late May (Layton) and Robert Cain. Her husband Adam S. Levandowski died Jan. 1, 1984. A 1948 graduate of E. St. Louis High School she was a Past-Worthy Matron of the Queen City Chapter #697, OES 1963 and member of the Daughter of Nile. She was also a Girl Scout Leader from 1963 to 1966, River Bluff Troop 996. Joan was a member of the Christ Unity Church in Collinsville, IL.

She is survived by a daughter: Stella E. Wischmeyer with whom she resided; a son: Dr. Roland A. Levandowski and his wife Betty of Bethesda, MD; and a granddaughter: Kirsten M. Levandowski, Boston, MA.

Services and burial will be in Illinois. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Renee M. Berg

Renee M. Berg, 88, formerly of Palmer Township, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Lake Bluff, Illinois.

Born April 18, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late George and Mollye (Lipton) Marcus.  Her husband, Edwin R. Berg, died in 1981.

Renee worked at Easton National Bank and Trust, Co., Wilson Borough and was a member of B’nai Abraham Synagogue, Wilson Borough.  She served on the Board of the Children’s Home of Easton and the Women’s Board at Easton Hospital.

Surviving are her son, Martin B. Berg of Highland Park, Illinois, a brother, Alan Marcus and two grandchildren.  Her daughter, Ellen D. Burnette, and her brother, Elliott Marcus, died earlier.
