Maida Greenleaf

Maida Greenleaf, 99 of Easton, PA died Friday, October 16, 2015 at New Eastwood Health Center. Born September 18, 1916 in Pen Argyl, PA she was a daughter of the late Nettie (Kresge) and Earl Bonney. She had been employed by Easton Hospital for 24 years before retiring in 1979. Prior to that she worked at the Onondaga Silk Mill for 7 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Easton, the Ladies Auxiliary of Moose and a former member of the West Easton Fire Company Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter Loretta Miller and her companion Matthew Potts, Sr. of Easton; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Albert; her son Ronald; a daughter: Joan Sulkin; and 8 brothers and sisters.

Services will be held Graveside 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 20) at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Rd., Palmer Twp. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

June Rose Chamberlin

June Rose Chamberlin, 84 of Palmer Twp., PA died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in Easton Hospital after being stricken at home. Born June 11, 1931 in Cleveland, OH she was a daughter of the late Sophie (Kalemba) and James Vana. Her husband Roy Eugene Chamberlin died in 1997. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cleveland, OH and was a dedicated mother and loving wife.

She will be greatly missed by her son: Raymond R. Chamberlin and his wife Ellen of Palmer Twp., PA; her daughter: Renee Wildgoose of Manville, NJ; her brother: Daniel Vana of Macedonia, OH; her sister: Rosalie Mapel of The Villages, FL; her 5 grandchildren: Keith, Gordon, Jennifer, Erin, Brittany; her 5 great-grandchildren: Chase, Arianna, Shane, Blake, Evan and her companion Harold.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Friday (Oct. 16) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA.  Service will be held 10 AM Wednesday (Oct. 21) in Epiphany Lutheran Church, Northfield, Ohio with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.

John T. Pursel

John T. Pursel, 83, of Cape May Beach, NJ, formerly of Palmer Township, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in Cooper University Hospital, Camden, NJ.

Born May 28, 1932 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late George F. and Maryon (Groh) Pursel.

He and his wife, the former Helene Hanlon were married 61 years.

John was an artist for Dixie Cup Company, Easton for 45 years.  He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1950 and was a graduate of Newark Academy of Art.

John’s family includes his wife, Helene; three daughters, Kim Cooper and her husband, the late Bill Cooper of Clifton Park, NY, Amy Ashton and her husband, Kline of Easton, and Heather Horn and her husband, Drek of Easton; a sister, Janice Race and her husband, Mark of Hobe Sound, FL; and eight grandchildren, Caitlin Montalvo and her husband, Ramfis, John Thomas Pursel, III, Emily Cooper, Tanner Haycock, Robby Ashton, Victoria Ashton, Ryan Ashton, and Summer Horn.

Services will be private with interment in Easton Cemetery.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Betsy M. Swick

Betsy M. Swick, 84 of Easton, PA died Sunday, October 11, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, after being stricken at home. Born November 21, 1930 in Phillipsburg, NJ she was a daughter of the late Susan Louise (Cobb) and Morris J. Swick.

A 1949 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, she had been employed by the Express-Times as a switchboard operator for 15 years before retiring in 1993. Prior to that she was a supervisor for Bell Telephone for 17 years.  She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Easton, Women’s Auxiliary of the Children’s Home, Past-President of the Junior Auxiliary of Easton Hospital and active in the Democratic Party. She was also a member of Senior Life Lehigh Valley.

She is survived by her daughter: Melissa J. Swick with whom she resided and grandson: Joshua David Weasner of Easton. A brother Earl Swick and sisters Jean Smith and Ann Swick died earlier.

Services are private; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Arlene J. McIntyre

Arlene J. McIntyre, 86, of Bethlehem Township, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 in Weston Senior Living Center at Sullivan Trail.

Born February 7, 1929 in Pottsville, PA, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Rebecca (Long) Bowers.

Her husband, Richard “Lindy” McIntyre died in 1991.

Arlene was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Palmer Township; the Red Hat Society; the Ambassador Club; and the Lady’s Golf League at Green Pond Country Club.

Surviving are a son, Rich McIntyre of Forks Township; a daughter, Linda Trigiani and her husband, Gary of Bethlehem Township; a brother, Norman Bowers; three sisters, Mary Whalen, Nancy Davis, and Gayle Ash; and four grandchildren, Rebecca (Zansitis) Lepkowski, Kate Zansitis, Mason McIntyre, and Mario McIntyre.  Two brothers, Joseph Bowers and John Bowers died earlier.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 3900 Freemansburg Ave., Palmer Township.  A visitation will be held from 6–7:30 pm on Tuesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Paulita Suarez

Paulita Suarez, 93, of Forks Township, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 in ManorCare, Palmer Township.  She was born January 28, 1922 in Puerto Rico.

Her husband, Manuel Suarez died in January.

Surviving are a daughter, JoAnn Licari and her husband, Ronald, with whom she resided; a son, Tony Suarez of Easton; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.  A daughter, Sarah Adames died in May.  A son, Carlos Suarez and a daughter, Isabel Pajonas also died earlier.

Ellen Theodorou

Ellen Theodorou, 93, of Palmer Township, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 3, 2015.

Born July 4, 1922 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Georgia (Kalenzos) Contos.

Her husband, Steve, died in 2001.

Ellen was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wilson Borough.  She graduated from Easton High School in 1940 and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion, Post #9.

Surviving are her sons, Theodore Theodorou and his wife, Doris of Palmer Township; Nicholas Theodorou and his wife, Catherine of Palmer Township; and George Theodorou and his wife, Kathleen of Bethlehem Township; five grandchildren, Gregory Theodorou, Elizabeth Theodorou, Steve Theodorou and his wife, Jackie, Andrew Theodorou and his wife, Maria, and Eleni Assise and her husband, Brett; and five great grandchildren, Annika Lee, Peter, Penelope, Alex, and Nicholas.  Her daughter, Elaine died in infancy.  Her brother, Peter Contos and her sister, Mary Ciambrone also died earlier.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 9, 2015 in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 319 S. 20th St., Wilson Borough.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time in the church.  Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

John H. Finken

John H. Finken, 84, of Palmer Township, died Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Easton Hospital.

Born March 22, 1931 in Easton, he was a son of the late Frederick C. and Anna M. (Fortner) Finken.

John worked at ATT in Easton and Allentown for 30 years and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, May (Piatt) Finken; two sons, John H. Finken and his wife, Joanne of Forks Township and Scott A. Finken and his wife, Lindsey in New Hamphire; six grandchildren; four step-children, Kevin Bowyer, Sharon Achey, Timothy Bowyer and Stephanie Buenrostro; seven step-grandchildren; and six step-great grandchildren.  His brother, Frederick C. Finken, Jr. died earlier.
