David Kinsey Detweiler, 65 of Palmer Twp., PA died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Easton Hospital after being stricken at home. Born February 10, 1951 in Easton, PA he was a son of the late Lawrence and Gladys (Breidinger) Detweiler. He and his wife the former Marlene Paulus were married for 46 years.

A 1969 graduate of Easton High School, he was a Marine Corps veteran and avid hunter and fisherman.  He had been employed by Binney and Smith; S.L. Sommers, Inc.; Roadlink USA; and Cherrydale Farms before retiring. Dave was a member of Palmer Moravian Church, Palmer Twp., Treasurer for Ducks Unlimited, Forks of the Delaware Chapter, and Vice President of the Stockertown Rod and Gun Club. He was also an avid sports fan and devoted Easton Football fan.

He is survived by his wife: Marlene; daughter: Melissa Detweiler-Lauer and her husband William of Wilmington, DE; son: Eric Detweiler and his wife Melissa of Lovettsville, VA; brother: Douglas Detweiler and his wife Joan of Dubois, PA; 4 grandchildren: David, Andrew, Laura, Zachary and a great-granddaughter: Savanna.

Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday (Aug. 23) in the Palmer Moravian Church, 2901 John Street, Easton, PA with visitation from 9 AM to 10:30 AM in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.  Interment is in Belfast Union Cemetery.

Henry A. Ort, Sr., 88, of Easton, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in Gracedale.

Born May 6, 1928 in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Raymond and Margaretta (Ort) Everitt.

His wife, Geraldine (Hazen) Ort died in 1992.  Henry worked at the Express-Times for many years.  He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a life member of the Order of Fleas, Easton.

Surviving are his daughters, Sally Jo Mitchell and her husband, John, of Allentown; Margie Lee McCullen and her husband, Louis, of Easton; Connie Mae Ort of Easton; Patty Ann Martin and her husband, Lauriston, Sr., of Easton; and Carol June Ort of Easton; his sons, Henry A. Ort, Jr. of Hazleton and Wayne Samuel Ort and his wife, Kathy, of Easton; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  His great granddaughter, Olivia Jo, died earlier.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.  Offer online condolences at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com.

Morris D. Metz, 91 of Forks Twp., PA died Monday, August 8, 2016 at Easton Hospital. Born July 10, 1925 in Wind Gap, PA he was a son of the late Arthur and Bertha (Wagner) Metz. He and his wife, the former Dorothy Hoferer were married 69 years this month.

He was a graduate of Pen Argyl High School and a 1950 graduate of Lafayette College. A World War II veteran, he served in the 94th Infantry and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a President Emeritus of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Lehigh Valley Chapter, where he was a principal participant and speaker for their educational program. Morris was employed by Mack Printing in Wilson for more than 30 years before retiring and was a Forks Township Supervisor from 1982 to 1995. He was a member of the Forks Township Historical Society; member and patron of the Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society; a founding member of the Forks Township Emergency Squad and member of Faith Lutheran Church, Forks Twp., PA.  Morris also collected and repaired antique clocks for the past 50 years and was a lover of Opera and classical music.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; son: Douglas Metz, daughter: Deborah Zarate and her husband Vincent all of Forks Twp., PA; sister: Sarah Jones of Saylorsburg, PA; 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 AM Friday (Aug. 12) in Faith Lutheran Church, 2012 Sullivan Trail, Easton, PA with visitation 5:30 PM to 7 PM Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be in Forks Cemetery.

Bayla L. Cohen, 99, formerly of Palmer Twp., PA died Friday, August 05, 2016 in the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, NJ. Born September 26, 1916 in Scranton, PA she was the daughter of the late G. I. and Sarah (Groh) Lyons. Her husband Meyer S. Cohen died in 1993.

A 1934 graduate of Central High School in Scranton, she had worked as a legal secretary for Atty. Nathan Reibman and at the Easton Area Neighborhood Center for several years.  She was a longtime member of Bnai Abraham Synagogue, Easton where she had been active in Hadassah, the Sisterhood and the choir. Bayla was a kind and gentle soul who loved playing the piano, singing, cooking and hosting family gatherings.

She is survived by two daughters: Jacquelyn Brown and her husband David of Nazareth, PA, Rachel Berkowitz and her husband Charles of Glen Rock, NJ; 4 grandchildren: Melissa Trach, Scott, Stephanie and Michael Berkowitz; and 8 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Courtney, Matthew, Lauren, Anna, Caroline, Chloe and Emma. She was predeceased by her husband Meyer and brothers: Joseph and Robert Lyons.

Services are 2 PM Tuesday, (Aug. 9) in the Bnai Abraham Synagogue, 1545 Bushkill St., Easton, PA, followed by interment in Bnai Abraham Cemetery, Forks Twp., PA. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Charles R. Schumacher, 82, of Easton, PA died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. Born June 15, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Alice (Guetzlaff) Schumacher. He was married to Joyce (Sterlein) Schumacher for 47 years on August 23.

A 1957 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, with a BS in Mining Engineering, Chuck joined the Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a member of the Bethlehem Loop Course training program. He was assigned to Bethlehem’s Lebanon Concentrator as a metallurgical engineer, transferred to the Cornwall Concentrator after its completion in 1961 and transferred to the newly formed Raw Materials Research Group at the Homer Research Laboratories in 1964. While part of the Raw Materials Research Group he traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting Bethlehem Steel’s raw materials properties. He was transferred to the environmental area of Bethlehem Steel’s Research in 1984 and to the corporate environmental group in 1988. He is the holder of several patents in the field of pelletizing and has authored several papers in the field of extractive metallurgy. Following retirement from Bethlehem Steel, Chuck worked for Komline Sanderson in Peapack, NJ as an environmental engineer for 7 years before retiring in 1999.

He was a member, elder, former president and teacher at Faith Lutheran Church in Forks Twp. where he especially enjoyed singing in the choir.  He was also a volunteer at: the Zoellner Art Center, Musikfest and Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his loving wife: Joyce; son: Scott Schumacher and his wife Debra of Minneapolis, MN; daughter: Jody McKinley and her husband Jerry of Elkridge MD; granddaughter: Amelia Rose McKinley; brothers: Allan and Ralph Schumacher and sister: Dale Sciammas.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Monday, August 8, 2016  in Faith Lutheran Church, 2012 Sullivan Trail, Easton, PA with a calling period from 10 to 11 AM in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Peggy D. Murphy, 85, of New Oxford, PA entered into God’s eternal care Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of John T. Murphy.  Born September 24, 1930 in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elda (Miller) Kiick.  Peggy retired with over 25 years of service as an operating room nurse at Easton Hospital, Easton. She was a member of River of God Fellowship Church in Easton where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three children; Stephen Finney and his wife Louise of Easton; Kathy Zulick and her husband James of Nazareth and Kevin Finney and his wife Pat of Easton, five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; James Kiick of Bethlehem and Kirby Kiick of Easton; and a sister-in-law; Marlene Kiick of Bethlehem.

Friends and relatives will be received Monday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown and Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton. A celebration of life service will be held at Ashton Funeral Home, Wednesday (Aug. 10) at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Joshua J. Leighton, 35, of Easton, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 1, 2016.

Born December 6, 1980 in Flemington, NJ, he was a son of Catherine (Collazo) Joyce and her husband, Matthew, of Easton and the late Donald J. Leighton.

Joshua was a hairstylist in the Lehigh Valley and a member of the Little Palmer Volunteer Fire Co., Wilson Borough.

Surviving with his parents, Catherine and Matthew, are two sisters, Jessica Joyce and her fiancé, Kevin McNally, of West Easton and Jacqueline Gonzalez and her husband, Dilman, of Forks Township and Joshua’s dearest friend, Ammie Middleton.
