Roger H. Dionne

Roger H. Dionne, 88, of Easton, formerly of Pennsauken, NJ, died Monday, August 4, 2014 in Kirkland Village.

Born:  July 29, 1926 in Auburn, Maine, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Bertha (Amnotte) Dionne.

Personal:  His wife, the former Marie T. Bailey died in 2010.  He was a sales manager for Green Valley Farms, Westmont, NJ for over 20 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy in North Africa during WWII.

Memberships:  Roger was a past president of the local chapter of American Field Service.

Survivors:  Two sons, James Dionne of Hampton, New Hampshire and Jeffrey Dionne and his partner, Tracey Werner of Easton; a daughter, Janemarie King and her husband, Don of Keswick, VA; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Dionne of Pennsauken; a brother, Wil Langelier; a sister, Jeri Coulter; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.  A son, Joseph Dionne and two sisters, Claudette Getchell and Constance Baron died earlier.

Services:  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Pauline M. Garofalo

Pauline M. Garofalo, 102, of Palmer Twp., PA died Monday, August 4, 2014.

Born: April 7, 1912 in Riddlesburg, PA she was a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Calandra) Chisesi. Her husband Sam Garofalo died in 1996.

Personal: She had been employed at the Simone Silk Mill for several years.

Memberships: She was a member of the William Parsons Chapter #185, O.E.S.

Survivors: Her son: James S. Garofalo and his wife Helen of Mt. Bethel, PA; two sisters: Nettie Marina, Rosie Whitman of Easton, PA; and her granddaughter: HelenBeth Vilcek and her husband David of Mt. Bethel, PA. She was predeceased by her husband: Sam and siblings: Frances “Fannie” Squarcia, Jennie Huckabay, Victor, Nicholas, James and Josephine Chisesi.

Services: A calling period will be held Thursday (Aug. 7) from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with Wm. Parsons #185, Eastern Star service at 7:45 p.m. Interment will be private.

Charles E. Fessler

Charles E. Fessler

Charles E. Fessler, 92, of Palmer Township, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospice House.  Born September 26, 1921 in Easton, he was a son of the late Elmer S. and Edith C. (Switzgable) Fessler.  He and his wife, the former Lillian McGugan were married 68 years.  He was Executive Vice President at Mack Printing Co. and retired in 1981 after 42 years.  He graduated from Easton High School in 1939 and was a Staff Sergeant with the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific.  Charles was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Easton where he was an Elder and sang in the choir.  He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, a past president of the Easton Exchange Club, a past commodore and president of the Lake Wallenpaupack Yacht Club, a member of the Industrial Management Club, the Pomfret Club, Northampton Country Club, and Harker’s Hollow Golf Club, and a charter member of the Lehigh Valley Postal Customer Council who honored him in 1981 for “Faithful and Outstanding Service”.
He served on committees of the Easton Area Chamber of Commerce and the American Red Cross.  He was also an avid fisherman and boater and enjoyed tying flies and building custom fishing rods.

Survivors:  His wife, Lillian; two sons, David C. Fessler and his wife, Anne of Nazareth and Steven E. Fessler and his wife, Suzanne of Bethlehem; two grandsons, Jared and Noah Fessler; two granddaughters, Adrienne Fessler and Dana Cornwell and her husband, Steve; and a great granddaughter, Everly Cornwell.   His sister, Catherine died earlier.

Services:  10:00 am Tuesday, August 12th in First Presbyterian Church, 333 Spring Garden St., Easton.  Call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, August 11th in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Rosalyn Meltzer

Rosalyn Meltzer, 95, of Easton, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

Born: February 12, 1919 in New York City she was a daughter of the late Aaron and Anna Lipson. She was married for over 60 years to Murray Meltzer who passed away in 2003 .

Personal: Rosalyn graduated from Hunter College in 1940 and for many years was a casework supervisor for the  Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in Johnstown, PA. In 1973, after a catastrophic flood in Johnstown, Rosalyn came out of retirement to work for the Catholic Social Agency in Johnstown, assisting flood victims.

Memberships: She was a member of Bnai Abraham Synagogue and the American Civil Liberties Union. Rosalyn was a long time member of the American Contract Bridge League, where she attained the rank of Life Master.

Survivors: Her children and their spouses: Ronnie Freedberg and Robert of Forks Township, PA, Margery Meltzer and Cheryl Stark of Vineyard Haven, MA, and Richard Meltzer and Jane of Cranberry Township, PA;  grandchildren: Debra Baker and Jeff of Toronto, Canada, Steven Freedberg and Kelly of St. Paul, MN and Ariella Meltzer of Cranberry Twp., PA; and three great grandchildren:  Mara and Leah Baker, and Aaron Freedberg. She was predeceased by two brothers, Mitch and Irving.

Bruce A. Reichard

Bruce A. Reichard, 79, of Easton, PA died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Easton Hospital.

Born: December 14, 1934 in Easton he was a son of the late Elizabeth Reichard.

Personal: He was a 1954 graduate of Easton High School and an army veteran. He had been employed by ITT, Easton for many years before retiring. He loved motorcycles and animals, and was an avid fisherman.

Memberships: He had been a member of the YR Club, Easton.

Survivors: Five cousins.

Services: Will be private; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Barbara Ann Vernon

Barbara Ann Vernon

Barbara Ann Vernon, 81, of Phillipsburg, NJ died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at home.

Born: May 22, 1933 in Wilson Borough, PA she was a daughter of the late Albert W. Bond and Catharine M. (Hahn) Bond Stout. Her step-father was the late Albert Stout. She and her husband James Sterling Vernon would have been married 63 years next month.

Personal: A 1950 graduate of Wilson High School, she was a licensed insurance agent. She was employed by AAA, West Jersey for 17 years before retiring in 1995. Prior to that she had been employed by Henry McKeen and Son in Easton for 19 years.

Memberships: She was a member of the Easton Moose Lodge; the D.A.R., Bethlehem Chapter; the Sunny Seniors, Phillipsburg and St. John’s UCC, Farmersville.

Survivors: Her husband James; 4 children: James S. Vernon, Jr. and his wife Kukie of Belfast, PA, Cathy L. Gallagher and her husband Ed of Lower Mt Bethel Twp., PA, Carol L. Faust and her husband Leland, Jr. of Palmer Twp., PA, Caren L. Griffith and her husband Wayne of Palmer Twp., PA; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday (July 28) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton; with visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Nathaniel C. “Nate” “El Rico” Medellin

Nathaniel C. “Nate” “El Rico” Medellin, 26 of Palmer Twp., PA died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at home.

Born: November 23, 1987 in Easton, PA he was a son of Debra (Gehret) DeLucca and her husband Greg, with whom he resided and Joseph Medellin, Jr. and his fiancée Katherine Lippincott of Wilson Borough.

Personal: He graduated from Easton HS in 2006 and received an Associate’s Degree in Journalism from Northampton Community College. He graduated from Triangle Tech as an electrician and was employed by Albea Co. in Washington, NJ. Nate volunteered at various Art and Music Festivals. He loved the arts, nature, skateboarding, hiking, camping and his pets, especially Sarah, Crissy and Spirit.

Survivors: His parents; his grandparents: Anna Gehret, Joseph Medellin, Sr., Tudi DeLucca; his siblings: Angeline DeLucca, Lisa DeLucca, Gwen Ruzanski, Marissa Lippincott, Gary Lippincott, Jr., Sal Gillen, Jr.; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who were like his family. He was predeceased by grandparents: Strickland Gehret and Patricia Medellin.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Wednesday (July 23) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with a calling period from 11 a.m. to noon.

Norman R. “Fox” King

Norman R. “Fox” King, 65, of Easton, PA died July 15, 2014 in ManorCare, Bethlehem Twp., PA.

Born: December 4, 1948 in Dobbs Ferry, NY and raised in Irvington, NY, he was a son of the late Norman W. and Dorothy (McCormick) King.

Personal: Norman moved to Easton in the mid 1970’s and spent many summers in Bolton Landing, NY. He had been employed by the New York Life Insurance Co. and will be remembered for his joking personality and showmanship.

Survivors: Son: Sean; sister: Debbie Turk; nephews and nieces: Tom Kolodzinski, Bill, Lindsay, Heather and Jackie Turk and many  friends from Easton, Washington, NJ, and  New York Life. He was predeceased by his parents and brother: Tommy.

Services: Memorial services will be held in Easton and NY at future dates. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.
