John A. Csellak

August 13, 2014

John A. Csellak, Ph.D., 49 of Lansdale, PA died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at his home.

Born: October 17, 1964 in Middletown, OH he was a son of the late Dr. William R., Sr. and Ruth (Rempe) Csellak.

Personal: John was a graduate of Forest Hill H.S., W. Palm Beach, FL and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of FL. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of NC, Chapel Hill and was an Adjunct Professor of Economics at the Montgomery County Community College and DeSales University. He was a 2nd Lt. in the US Navy and volunteered at the Manna on Main Street soup kitchen in Lansdale. He had been a State Master Councilor of the Florida DeMolay. A faithful Lutheran, John regularly attended Blue Church in Coopersburg and was a gifted and devoted father, brother and friend.

Survivors: 2 children: Kevin and Lorelei Claeys-Csellak in Amsterdam; 2 sisters: The Rev. Laura A. Csellak and her husband The Rev. Mark Swanson of Center Valley, PA; Linda M. Csellak of Hong Kong; and half-brother: William R. Csellak, Jr. and his wife Diane of Thousand Oaks, CA.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 27 at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 3900 Freemansburg Ave., Easton, PA with a calling period from 9:30 to 11 am in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be private in Fountain Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA.

Lillian E. Vogt

Lillian E. Vogt, 99, formerly of Easton, died August 12, 2014 in Lenoir City, TN.

Born: April 4, 1915 in New York City, she was a daughter of the late John and Lena (Staiger) Zanone. Her husband Carl J. Vogt died in 2000.

Survivors: Two daughters: Carol J. Jorgensen of Kingston, TN, Barbara G. Price of Scranton, PA; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: Services were private with interment in Easton Cemetery.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Frank W. Swan

Frank W. Swan

Frank W. Swan, 90, of Easton passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 in Easton Hospital.

Born: March 9, 1924 in Easton he was a son of the late Louis W. and S. Katherine (Schleicher) Swan. On October 22, 1950 he married the only love of his life, Chrysanthe (Englesson) and together they shared 63 years.

Personal: He was a graduate of Easton High School in 1941 and a graduate of Churchman’s Business College. A WWII army veteran, he participated in the D-Day invasion and was awarded the Purple Heart. He went on to become the Assistant Postmaster of the Easton Post Office. Upon his retirement, he managed Easton Packing Company’s retail store where he shared his love of cooking and recipes with customers. Frank was a devoted husband, a gentle father and grandfather and a friend to many. He had a dry sense of humor, loved to laugh and went to great lengths to make every occasion special. He enjoyed his garden and was an avid cook and baker. All who knew him would tell you that he was quick to care for friends, family and neighbors in times of need, delivering meals and baskets of goodies.

Memberships: He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and had been an active member and Council President of the former Christ Lutheran Church, Easton. He was a life member and President of Centennial School PTA and an active member of the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees where he proudly claimed the award for longest retiree.

Survivors: His wife Chrysanthe; two children: Cathy and her partner Maura; Thomas and his wife Susan; and two grandchildren: Stephanie and Andrew. His brother John died earlier.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday (Aug. 15) in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 330 Ferry Street, Easton with visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to the Center for Animal Health and Wellness, 1165 Island Park Rd., Easton, PA 18042.

Sherry A. Grube

August 7, 2014

Sherry A. Grube, 70, of Easton, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 in Old Orchard Health Care Center.

Born:  November 23, 1943 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Harry F. and Violet (Paulson) Unangst.

Personal:  She and her husband, John E. Grube were married 42 years.  Sherry worked for the State of Pennsylvania in the WIC program and also at Maier’s Bakery, Wilson Borough.

Memberships:  She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy parish.

Survivors:  Husband, John; daughters, Susan Ely and her husband, Scott of Palmer Township; Kendra Grube of Allentown; Kristine Heckman and her husband, Bob of Bath; sons, Ken Grube and his wife, Kim of Denham Springs, LA; Mike Grube and his companion, Sandy Sottolano of Wilson Borough; Jim Grube of Denham Springs; Randy Grube and his companion, Lynn Fortebuono of Easton; brother, Wayne Unangst of New Bern, NC; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  A sister, Dorothy Nero and a brother, Harry Unangst died earlier.

Services:  A visitation will be held from 6 – 7:30 pm Tuesday, August 12th in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

Edward J. Dorrington

Edward J. Dorrington, 70, of Easton, PA died Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Warren Campus.

Born: March 3, 1944 in New York City, NY he was a son of the late Edward S. and Jacqueline (Young) Dorrington. He and his wife, Dianna (Puchalski) Dorrington have been married for 32 years.

Personal: He had been employed by the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ for many years before retiring. He had also been recognized by the City of Easton and praised by neighbors and friends for the holiday displays at his home every year.

Survivors: His wife: Dianna; four sons: James and his wife Virginia; Robert and his wife Michelle; Sean and his wife Felicia; Michael and his wife Stephanie all of Easton.

Services: Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday (Aug. 8) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA.

Roger H. Dionne

August 4, 2014

Roger H. Dionne, 88, of Easton, formerly of Pennsauken, NJ, died Monday, August 4, 2014 in Kirkland Village.

Born:  July 29, 1926 in Auburn, Maine, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Bertha (Amnotte) Dionne.

Personal:  His wife, the former Marie T. Bailey died in 2010.  He was a sales manager for Green Valley Farms, Westmont, NJ for over 20 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy in North Africa during WWII.

Memberships:  Roger was a past president of the local chapter of American Field Service.

Survivors:  Two sons, James Dionne of Hampton, New Hampshire and Jeffrey Dionne and his partner, Tracey Werner of Easton; a daughter, Janemarie King and her husband, Don of Keswick, VA; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Dionne of Pennsauken; a brother, Wil Langelier; a sister, Jeri Coulter; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.  A son, Joseph Dionne and two sisters, Claudette Getchell and Constance Baron died earlier.

Services:  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Pauline M. Garofalo

Pauline M. Garofalo, 102, of Palmer Twp., PA died Monday, August 4, 2014.

Born: April 7, 1912 in Riddlesburg, PA she was a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Calandra) Chisesi. Her husband Sam Garofalo died in 1996.

Personal: She had been employed at the Simone Silk Mill for several years.

Memberships: She was a member of the William Parsons Chapter #185, O.E.S.

Survivors: Her son: James S. Garofalo and his wife Helen of Mt. Bethel, PA; two sisters: Nettie Marina, Rosie Whitman of Easton, PA; and her granddaughter: HelenBeth Vilcek and her husband David of Mt. Bethel, PA. She was predeceased by her husband: Sam and siblings: Frances “Fannie” Squarcia, Jennie Huckabay, Victor, Nicholas, James and Josephine Chisesi.

Services: A calling period will be held Thursday (Aug. 7) from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with Wm. Parsons #185, Eastern Star service at 7:45 p.m. Interment will be private.

Charles E. Fessler

Charles E. Fessler

Charles E. Fessler, 92, of Palmer Township, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospice House.  Born September 26, 1921 in Easton, he was a son of the late Elmer S. and Edith C. (Switzgable) Fessler.  He and his wife, the former Lillian McGugan were married 68 years.  He was Executive Vice President at Mack Printing Co. and retired in 1981 after 42 years.  He graduated from Easton High School in 1939 and was a Staff Sergeant with the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific.  Charles was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Easton where he was an Elder and sang in the choir.  He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, a past president of the Easton Exchange Club, a past commodore and president of the Lake Wallenpaupack Yacht Club, a member of the Industrial Management Club, the Pomfret Club, Northampton Country Club, and Harker’s Hollow Golf Club, and a charter member of the Lehigh Valley Postal Customer Council who honored him in 1981 for “Faithful and Outstanding Service”.
He served on committees of the Easton Area Chamber of Commerce and the American Red Cross.  He was also an avid fisherman and boater and enjoyed tying flies and building custom fishing rods.

Survivors:  His wife, Lillian; two sons, David C. Fessler and his wife, Anne of Nazareth and Steven E. Fessler and his wife, Suzanne of Bethlehem; two grandsons, Jared and Noah Fessler; two granddaughters, Adrienne Fessler and Dana Cornwell and her husband, Steve; and a great granddaughter, Everly Cornwell.   His sister, Catherine died earlier.

Services:  10:00 am Tuesday, August 12th in First Presbyterian Church, 333 Spring Garden St., Easton.  Call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, August 11th in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Northampton Memorial Shrine.
