Khai Giang, 78, of Palmer Township, died Monday, June 30, 2014 in his daughter’s home.

Born:  January 12, 1936 in China.

Personal:  He retired from Gino and Jack Sportswear, Bath, PA.  His wife, Anh Dang died earlier.

Memberships:  Khai was a member of Linh Quang Buddhist Temple, Telford, PA.

Survivors:  Daughter, Linh Giang of Macungie; son, Minh Giang of Palmer Township; four grandchildren.

Services:  Services will private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

James Michael Compton

James Michael Compton, 64, of Easton, PA died Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Easton Hospital.

Born: December 16, 1949 in Easton he was a son of the late Marion (Breen) Compton Lear.

Personal: He had been employed by Pino’s Restaurant in Easton for several years.

Survivors: 4 brothers; 6 sisters; nieces and nephews.

Bertha Psitos

June 28, 2014

Bertha Psitos, 93, formerly of Easton, PA died Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Sarasota, FL.

Born: October 7, 1920 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Coutros) Deonis. Her husband Nicholas S. Psitos died in 1996.

Personal: She and her husband owned and operated the Key City Diner in Phillipsburg, NJ for many years before retiring.

Memberships: She was a member of the Annunciation Hellenic Orthodox Church in Wilson and active in the Philoptochus Society.

Survivors: Daughters: Catherine “Tina” Georgas and her husband George; Melissa Prousi and her husband Andrew all in Florida; 6 grandchildren: Nicholas, Pamela, Beth, Elenie, Anthony and Melissa; and 5 great-grandchildren: Melissa, Timothy, Madison, Dela and Louisa. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas and a daughter: Maria Gerontianos in 1990.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (July 2) in the Greek Church, 20th St. and Hay Terrace, Easton with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Catherine E. Vicario

Catherine E. Vicario, 75, of Easton, died in Easton Hospital Saturday, June 28, 2014.

Born:  August 23, 1938 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late James and Anna (Moffitt) Bergstresser.

Survivors:  Three daughters, Donna Bloom, Brenda Beisel, and Ann Noble; two sons, Charles Unangst and Salvatore Vicario, Jr.; 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters.  A granddaughter died earlier.

Services:  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton is handling the arrangements.

John Reynolds Austen

June 27, 2014

John Reynolds Austen, 98, of Easton died Friday, June 27, 2014 in Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, PA.

Born: September 12, 1915 in Los Angeles, CA he was a son of the late Oswald and Alma (McClaren) Austen. His wife, Helen (Taylor) Austen died in 2012.

Personal: He was a graduate of California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) and employed by the Ingersoll Rand Co. While working at the Cameron Pump Division of IR in 1954 he was in charge of manufacturing the Pumps for the first Nuclear Submarine, the USS Nautilus. He also had been employed at Joy Mfg. in Buffalo, NY and Worthington Pump in Hillside, NJ before returning to IR to complete his career.

Memberships: He was a Past-President of the Easton Rotary Club; a former Boy Scout and Cub Pack Leader; member of the Easton Area Industrial Land Development board; the Pomfret Club; Northampton Country Club and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilson. There is also an auditorium named in his honor at the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society Sigal Museum.

Survivors: 2 sons: John T. and his wife Sue of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Stephen R. and his wife Maureen of Bluffton, SC; a brother: Peter T. Austen of Port Orange, FL; 5 grandchildren: Stephanie, Drew, David, Jenny, Lindsey and 5 great-grandchildren.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 1) in Kortz Hall, Moravian Hall Square, 174 W. North Street, Nazareth, PA; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be private.

Gloria I. Cousins

Gloria I. Cousins, 79, of Newark, DE, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at her home.

Born: October 17, 1934 in Wilson Borough, PA she was a daughter of the late Carl and Hilda (Seip) Hawk.

Personal: A graduate of Northampton Community College and East Stroudsburg University, she had been an educator at the University of Delaware English Language Institute for many years. Prior to that she was a missionary in Italy for the Cornerstone Ev. Free Church of Easton. She had also been employed by Mack Printing and the Northampton County Board of Assistance for many years. She served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.

Memberships: She attended the Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, DE and was a former Rainbow Girl and Girl Scout in Wilson Borough.

Survivors: Son: Paul; and surrogate daughter: Nonie Bell with whom she resided. Her brothers: Charles and Carl Hawk predeceased her.

Services: 10 AM Thursday in Arndt’s Lutheran Church, 1851 Arndt Road, Easton with visitation from 9:30 to 10 AM in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Arndt’s Cemetery.

Estelle B. Cohen

Estelle B. Cohen, 91, of Forks Township, died at home on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

Born:  February 19, 1923 in Mt. Vernon, NY, she was a daughter of the late David and Minnie (Wartel) Weisberger.

Personal:  Her husband, Russell H. Cohen died in 2011.  She was an international judge for the American Kennel Club.

Survivors:  She is survived by her daughter, Donna Agamie and her husband, Norman of Freemansburg; step-son, Steven Cohen; step-daughter, Sharon Fox; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.  Her daughter, Judy Waldinger died earlier.

Manuel Rivera Carrero, 79, of Easton, died at his home Wednesday, June 25, 2014.

Born:  April 24, 1935 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Manuel Rivera and Ines Rivera.

Personal:  He was a machine operator at Molded Acoustical Products, Easton.

Survivors:  wife, Adelaida Colon; sons, Geraldo Rivera, Luis Rivera, Hector Manuel Rivera, and Edwin Colon; daughters, Marisol Rivera, Evelin Rivera, Iris Rivera, Maribel Fuentes, Awilda Gonzalez, Rebecca Colon, and Rosa Ramos; 23 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren
