Chester F. Brotzman

June 7, 2014

Chester F. Brotzman, 86, of Palmer Township, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 in ManorCare, Old Orchard.

Born:  December 7, 1927 in Easton, he was a son of the late Chester, Sr. and Hazel (Gernet) Brotzman.

Personal:  He and his wife, the former Vesta M. Sandt were married 67 years.  Chester served in the Navy during WWII and was a machine operator for Ecolaire, Easton for 33 years and retired in 1986.

Memberships:  He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Palmer Township.

Survivors:  his wife, Vesta; two sons, Chester F. Brotzman, III and his wife, Phyllis of Bethlehem and Donald R. Brotzman and his wife, Maryalice of Bethlehem; a daughter, Linda Murgia and her husband, Dominick of Swiftwater; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.  Two sisters, Millie Hackett and Jean Daneels, and a grandson died earlier.

Services:  10:30 am Wednesday, June 11th in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 9:30 am until service time Wednesday in the funeral home.

Ruth E. Saylor

June 6, 2014

Ruth E. Saylor, 70, of Forks Township, died Friday, June 6, 2014 in her home.

Born:  October 14, 1943 in Alpena, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Gottfried and Irene (Pajung) Lobert.

Personal:  She and her husband, Richard J. Saylor were married 51 years.

Memberships:  Ruth was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Forks Township.

Survivors:  husband, Richard; a daughter, Jill Saylor Klobe and her husband, Steve of Milton, PA; two sons, Jack Saylor of Elkton, MD and Jim Saylor and his wife, Tammi of Forks Township; and four grandchildren, Jimmy, Maia, Annalise, and Lorelei.  Two sisters, Helen Keck and Hilda Angst died earlier.

Services:  A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9th at 11:00 am in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

Helen V. Jeavons

May 30, 2014

Helen V. Jeavons, 91, of Easton, PA died Friday, May 30, 2014 in Gracedale.

Born: November 15, 1922 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Fox) Schlough. Her husband William Jeavons died in 1984.

Memberships: She was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Bethlehem, PA.

Survivors: A son: Douglas Jeavons and his wife Linda, a daughter: Marcia McLean and her husband Brian all of Palmer Twp., PA; 4 grandchildren and a great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband: William, brother: Kenneth Schlough and sister: Gladys Stem.

Services: 1:00 PM Tuesday (June 3) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with visitation from 12 to 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.

John E. Ewadinger

May 27, 2014

John E. Ewadinger, 78 of New York City, NY formerly of Easton, PA passed away May 27, 2014 at Sloan Kettering after a gallant fight against cancer.

Born: July 10, 1935 in Easton he was a son of the late William M. and Marie (Stewart) Ewadinger.

Personal: A graduate of March Elementary School and Easton High School, he graduated from Princeton University with the Class of 1957. John was a US veteran serving as a naval medic both stateside and  overseas. When his enlistment was over, he attended Columbia University. He worked in graphic and commercial advertising in New York City. Upon retirement he remained in NY and spent summers in Toulon, France.

Memberships: He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Easton.

Survivors: He will be greatly missed by his partner of 53 years: Romuald Tecco. He is also survived by: his brother: Williams S. Ewadinger; 4 nephews and nieces: David (Gayle) Ewadinger, Susan (Mark) Critchfield, Jennifer Ewadinger and Brian Ewadinger; nine great-nieces and nephews; two great-great nephews all living in Central KY and cousins in OH, KY, PA, CA and NJ.

Herbert Theodore Baer

May 25, 2014

Herbert Theodore Baer, 67, of Phillipsburg, NJ died May 25, 2014 in Easton Hospital.

Born: October 31, 1946 in Somerville, NJ he was a son of the late Herbert Baer and Ida (Littleton) Truscott.

Personal: He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and had been employed by the Bridgewater Twp., NJ School District for many years before retiring.

Survivors: Three siblings: Robert, Nancy and Barbara.

Services: Were private;  the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton was in charge of arrangements.

Florice Mae Miller

May 24, 2014

Florice Mae Miller, 81, of Forks Twp., PA died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth.

Born: October 6, 1932 in Wilson Borough, PA she was the daughter of the late Bernard Hawkins and Sarah (Hevener) Hawkins Munford.

Personal: She had been employed briefly at the Northampton County Courthouse.

Survivors: Cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and step-father: John Munford.

Services: 10 AM Friday (May 30) Graveside at Easton Cemetery, N. 7th St., Easton; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Joseph Baylog, Jr.

May 23, 2014

Joseph Baylog, Jr., 86 of Forks Twp., PA died Friday, May 23, 2014 in Easton Hospital.

Born: October 2, 1927 in Easton, PA he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Korhut) Baylog, Sr.

Personal: He was a 1945 graduate of Easton High School graduating from Lafayette College in 1951. He was a Mechanical Engineer for companies in the Lehigh Valley for more than 40 years before retiring. He also served in the Navy during WWII. Joe will be fondly remembered as a wonderful father, husband, and friend whose passions included a love of the outdoors, history, and his fellow man.

Memberships: He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Easton; the Delaware and Potomac River Paddling Association and the Delaware Canoe Club.

Survivors: His wife of 55 years: the former Catherine Ellen Daws; children: Joseph D. Baylog and his wife Robin, Carol Miller and her husband Matt all of Forks Twp., PA, Alice Van Horn of Hunter, NY; a granddaughter: Elana Baylog and niece and nephews: Lou, Ed, Joe, Mary Kay and Eric Schultheis. His sister: Helen Schulthies died in March.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Friday (May 30) Graveside in Easton Heights Cemetery, North 10th St., Easton; with visitation from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton, PA. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Riverside Bar & Grill, Rt. 611 N,  immediately following the visitation Thursday.

Charles Orth

Charles Orth, 96, of Plainfield Township, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 in Gracedale.

Born:  October 31, 1917 in Kintnersville, he was a son of the late Edward and Rosella (Wagner) Orth.

Personal:  He and his wife, the former Martha Seifert were married 74 years.  He served in the Army Air Force during WWII.  He owned and operated Charlie’s Snack Bar, Forks Township, served on the Board of Directors of The Second National Bank of Nazareth, and was a self-employed building contractor.

Memberships:  Charles was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Tatamy; a founding member of the Bushkill Valley Motorcycle Club; a member of E-Z Goers RV Group; an airplane pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Survivors:  wife, Martha; three daughters, Suzanne Keller, Priscilla Harvey and her husband, David, Rebecca Gelles and her husband, George; a son, Charles B. Orth and his wife Kimberly; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.  Five brothers, Walter, Ellis, William, Raymond, and Edward Orth and a sister, Bertha Laughlin died earlier.

Services:  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.
