Lois E. Olsen

March 7, 2014

Lois Evelyn Olsen, 60, of Forks Twp., PA died Friday, March 7, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson, Campus.

Born: March 10, 1953 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Russell and Evelyn (Zink) Saylor. She and her husband Roy E. Olsen have been married for 33 years.

Personal: A 1972 graduate of Easton High School she worked in the cafeteria at the Easton Middle School for 14  years.

Survivors: Her husband: Roy; children: Larry, Sr. of Bethlehem, PA;  Roy, Jr. and Valene both of Easton, PA; brother: David Saylor of Forks Twp., PA; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Services: Will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday (Mar. 12) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with visitation from 6 to7:30 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Farmersville Cemetery, Bethlehem Twp., PA.

Memorials: May be made to the American Heart Association, 968 Postal Rd., Suite 110, Allentown, PA 18109.

Irving A. Bittle

March 7, 2014

Irving Augustus Bittle, 83, of Easton, PA formerly of Plainfield, NJ died Friday, March 7, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus.

Born: July 18, 1930 in Union City, NJ he was a son of the late Irving A., Sr. and Florence J. (Martin) Bittle.

Personal: A 1948 graduate of Plainfield High School, he was a Captain with the Plainfield Fire Department, Plainfield, NJ retiring after 25 years.  He also served in the National Guard. 

Memberships: He was an Elder and Deacon at the Evangelical Free Church in Lakehurst, NJ for 30 years and a leader of the Bible Study Fellowship for Ocean and Monmouth Counties. He was also a member of the Gideon Society.

Survivors: His wife of 62 years: F. Marian (Hunsicker) Bittle; children: Susan Carol Harrison and her husband Rod of Easton PA; Marian Louise Rosen of Gum Spring, VA; Janet Grace Kopecky  and her husband Joseph of Readington, NJ; Edward M. Bittle, Sr. and his wife Anne of Whitehall, NY; sister: Marjorie E. Miller of Sacramento, CA; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services: Will be held 3:00 PM  Monday (Mar. 10) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with a calling period from 2 to 3 PM.  Interment will be in the Schwenksville Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions: May be made to the Gideon Society.

Marco Antonio Goyzueta

March 3, 2014

Marco Antonio Goyzueta, 63, of Easton, PA died Monday, March 3, 2014 in the Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown, PA.

Born: June 12, 1950 in Lima, Peru he was a son of Elsa (Gutierrez) Goyzueta Kanakaris of Easton, PA and the late Louis Antonio Goyzueta.

Personal: He was a front desk manager at the Plaza Hotel in New York City for 15 years. An avid outdoorsman and runner, he had participated in numerous marathons all over the United States.

Survivors: His mother; two sons: Renato of Easton, PA; Daniel in Virginia; five brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held 6 p.m. Sunday (Mar. 9) in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Rose Inn Avenue, Nazareth, PA. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Martha Leona Niko

March 1, 2014

Martha Leona Niko, 87, of West Easton, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 in New Eastwood Care Center.

Born:  July 13, 1926 in Valley City, IL, she was a daughter of the late Leo Robert and Eva Myrtle (Ham) Shaw.

Personal:  She and her husband, Louis Niko were married 66 years. During WWII she worked in an airplane factory and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

Memberships:  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nazareth.

Survivors:  Husband, Louis; two daughters, Sharon Niko of West Easton and LuAnne Niko of West Easton; a sister, Vera Gomez of San Diego; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Lee Thomas Shaw and William Monroe Shaw died earlier.

Barry Duane Hartzell

February 25, 2014

Barry Duane Hartzell, 63, of Palmer Twp., PA died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Easton Hospital.

Born: July 5, 1950 in Easton, PA he was a son of Duane and Nancy (Waltz) Hartzell of Wilson Borough. He and his wife, the former Cynthia Hyndshaw celebrated their 45th anniversary on Monday.

Personal: He has been employed by the USDA as a safety inspector for the past 30 plus years. A 1968 graduate of Easton High School, he loved hunting, boating, fishing and the Brookwood Lodge.

Survivors: His parents; his wife; a son: Brad of Palmer Twp.; brothers: Dennis and Daniel of Palmer Twp.; a sister: Gloria Hagenbuch of Williams Twp. and 2 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son: Barry T.

Services: Will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with a calling period from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Frances Bradley

Frances Bradley, 87, of Saylorsburg, formerly of Nutley, NJ, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in New Eastwood Care Center.

Born:  October 4, 1926 in Nutley, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Genevieve (Whelan) Bradley.

Survivors:  A daughter, Nancy Burke; three sons, Ron Gugliociello, Michael Gugliociello, and Stephen Gugliociello; three sisters, Ruth Lyons, Marilyn Berg, and Patricia Coraggio; a brother, Charles Bradley; and two grandchildren.

Oliver J. Wischmeyer

Oliver J. Wischmeyer, 61, of Forks Township, died Monday, February 24, 2014 in his home.

Born:  October 4, 1952 in St. Louis, MO, he was a son of the late Oliver J., Sr., and M. Eileen (Bowers) Wischmeyer.

Personal:  He and his wife, the former Stella E. (Levandowski) were married 37 years.  He served in the Air National Guard and was a director at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Bridgewater, NJ.

Memberships:  He was a member of Dallas-Lafayette Lodge #396, F&AM, Easton.

Services:  A Masonic Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 1:00 pm until service time Thursday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.

Derick L. Guzman

February 23, 2014

Derick L. Guzman, 29, of Bethlehem died Sunday, February 23, 2014.

Born: May 19, 1984 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was the son of Melody (Otto) Dancy of New Bern, NC and Ricardo Guzman of Bethlehem, PA.

Personal: He was a graduate of Easton High School and received his Hypnosis Certification from the International Assoc. of Counselors and Therapists.  Derick was also available as a “barber for hire”.

Survivors: His parents; a son: Carter D. Guzman; grandmothers: Carol Macaulay and Nereida Guzman-Longenbach; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his sister: Devon N. Guzman in 2000.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 27) in New Creation UCC Church, 3730 Nicholas St., Easton, PA with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church. Interment will be private. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.
