Jean L. Booser

January 31, 2014

Jean L. Booser, 88, formerly of Penbrook, PA died Friday, January 31, 2014 in Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth.

Born:  December 27, 1925 in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late William B. and Florence E. (Meredith) Etzweiler.

Personal:  Her husband, John Richard “Dick” Booser died in 2007.  She graduated from John Harris High School where she excelled in archery.  She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed vacationing in Atlantic City and Virginia Beach.

Memberships:  Jean was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penbrook; the Termites Club; and the Penbrook Swim Club.

Survivors:  A son, Richard W. “Rick” Booser and his wife, Elizabeth of Martins Creek; four grandchildren, Eric, Kate, Kyle, and Ethan; and a great granddaughter.

Services:  11:00 am Friday (Feb. 7) in the church, 2730 Booser Ave, Penbrook.  A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until service time Friday in the church.  Interment will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Sidney Golden

January 27, 2014

Sidney Golden, 83, of Wilson Borough, PA died Monday, January 27, 2014 in ManorCare Health Services, Palmer Twp., PA

Personal: Born March 12, 1930 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a graduate of Phillipsburg HS (‘48) and East Stroudsburg University. He received his Master’s Degree from Lehigh University and was an elementary school teacher for the Bethlehem School District for many years before retiring.  An avid sports fan, he especially loved following local high school sports and was a ticket taker for Easton HS for many years. He also enjoyed participating in flea markets and was a member of the local Democratic Party.

Survivors: He is survived by a cousin. He was predeceased by his parents: Max Goldowitz, Ida (Jacobs) Goldowitz Miller and step-father: Morris Miller.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday (Jan. 31) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be Children of Israel Cemetery, Forks Twp., PA.

Judd H. Deutsch

January 26, 2014

Judd H. Deutsch, 58, of Palmer Twp., PA died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at home. He had been on a heart and kidney transplant list.

Born: April 13, 1955 in Easton, PA he was a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Schippers) Deutsch.

Personal: A 1973 graduate of Easton High School, he had been employed by Bethlehem Steel and Sacred Heart Hospital. He enjoyed art, ceramics, and he especially loved antique cars.

Memberships: He was a member of Arndt’s Lutheran Church, Forks Twp., PA.

Survivors:  His wife of 33 years: Nancy G. (Young) Deutsch; his son: Joseph G. Deutsch of Wilson Borough, PA; his daughter: Allison A. Deutsch of Palmer Twp., PA and his sister: Bonnie Khavaran of Strongsville, OH.

Services: 10 AM Friday (Jan. 31) in Arndt’s Lutheran Church, 1851 Arndt Road, Easton, PA with a calling period from 6:30 to 8 PM  Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.

Alberto Vazquez

Alberto Vazquez, 73, of Easton died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Easton Hospital.  

Personal: He was born August 25, 1940 in Puerto Rico and was self-employed as a handyman and maintenance worker.

Survivors: His wife Francisca; nine children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services: Were held in New York. The  Ashton Funeral Home, Easton handled the arrangements.

George Terleski

January 23, 2014

George Terleski, 88, of Bethlehem Township, died Thursday, January 23, 2014.

Born:  November 10, 1925 in Easton, he was a son of the late Philip and Magda Terleski.

Personal:  He and his wife, Shirley, were married 63 years.  He worked for the U. S. Post Office for 38 years and served in the Marine Corps during WWII.

Memberships:  George was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Palmer Township, West Easton Athletic Association, Avona Fire Co., and VFW Post 1290, Easton.

Survivors:  wife, Shirley; daughter, Lynn Terleski-Katz of Sacramento, CA; three sons, Robert Terleski of Andreas, Gregory Terleski of Bethlehem Township, and Michael Terleski of Bethlehem; two sisters, Ann Ferrissey and Rose Ryan; and three grandchildren, Tyler, Seth, and Annette.

Services:  11:00 am Monday, Jan. 27, in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 10:00 am until service time Monday in the funeral home.

Alma Marie Oren

Alma Marie Oren, 85, of Easton, PA passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 in Manor Care, Palmer Twp.

Born: March 24, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ she was a daughter of the late Walter Cox Gulick and Ethel May (Hooey) Gulick.

Personal: Alma and her beloved husband Walter Mills Oren were married for 64 years, 58 of which were while living in Forks Township until the passing of Walter in 2013. Alma was raised in Belvidere, NJ from age 5 until 14 by her grandparents along with 3 siblings after her parents unexpectedly died in short succession from natural causes in the early 1930’s. She always enjoyed reminiscing about the simpler times and pleasures of that period, most particularly of Sundays spent in their parlor singing songs as her grandmother played piano. In her early teens her grandparents passed away and Alma moved to Phillipsburg, NJ where she was raised by her Aunt May and Uncle Albert Hooey. She attended Phillipsburg HS until quitting to work and help support the family and remained living with her Aunt and Uncle until marrying Walter. Alma raised 3 boys and worked hard to help support the family and provide a better life for them than she had known herself. In her later years she was happy spending time with Walter and proud of all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and families.

Survivors: 3 sons: Ronald and his wife Cindi of McAfee, NJ; Rodney of Breinigsville, PA ; Rodger and his wife Mary of Nashville, TN; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday (Jan. 24) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park.

Memorial Contributions: May be made to Meals on Wheels of Northampton County.

Nellie Scheirer

Nellie Scheirer, 92 of Palmer Twp., PA died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Easton Hospital.

Born: October 26, 1921 in West Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Martha (Hrinyak) Kopach.

Personal: She had helped her husband, Donald in his business: Scheirer Brother’s Flooring for many years. She also volunteered at Easton Hospital.

Memberships: She was a member of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, West Easton; Cosmopolitan Club; O.E.S., Easton Chapter; Nitchman Guild of Moravian Church and Ladies Auxiliary of W. Easton.

Survivors: Her sister: Catherine Kutzler of Palmer Twp., PA. She was predeceased by her husband Donald E. Scheirer in 1995 and her brother Michael Kopach in 1943.

Services: Divine Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 21) in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church,  315  4th St., West Easton; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery.

Memorials: Divine Liturgy intentions in memory of Mrs. Scheirer may be made to the Church, 315  4th St., W. Easton, PA 18042.

Lois Joyce Lovell

Lois Joyce Lovell, 90, formerly of Palmer Township, died Monday, January 13, 2014.

Born:  July 27, 1923 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Ervin R. and Elsie M. (Unangst) Worley.

Personal:  She and her husband, Robert J. Lovell were married 68 years.  Together they travelled extensively in the lower 48 states, Canada, and Alaska and enjoyed their cabin on Sand Lake in Ontario. Lois was a graduate of Easton High School.

Memberships:  She was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton.

Survivors:  Husband, Robert; four daughters, Karen Brown and her husband, Dennis of Palmer Township, Janice Drake and her husband, Gregory of Stockertown, Sandra Goldsmith and her husband, Timothy of Palmer Township, and Lynn Johnson and her husband, Donald of Nazareth; a sister, Marion Lattig of Phillipsburg; eight grandchildren, Stacey Andreas, Mitchell Brown, Andrew, Matthew, and Peter Goldsmith, Brian Kunsman, and Bradley and Jaclyn Johnson; and five great grandchildren.  Her brother, Robert E. Worley and her sister, Olive Unangst died earlier.
