Harold R. “Bob” Nolf

Harold R. “Bob” Nolf, 85, of Palmer Twp., PA died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in his home.

Born: February 13, 1928 in Easton he was a son of the late Harold and Jessie (Kroesen) Nolf.

Personal: A graduate of Easton HS, he had been employed by Valley Federal Savings and Loan for 11 years before retiring in 1991.  Prior to that he worked at the Echo Ridge Girl Scout Camp from 1966 to 1974; Jess Murray Electrical Contractors in Wms. Twp. for 5 years and the former Dixie Cup Co. for 15 years. He also served in the Navy during WWII.

Memberships: He was a member of St. John’s Church on Morgan Hill; the Order of the Fleas and the PA Jazz Society.

Survivors: His wife of 59 years: Phyllis M. (Overbeck) Nolf; sister: Jeanne L. Gumm of Mt. Bethel, PA; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother: Richard K. Nolf.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday (9/16) in St. John’s Church on Morgan Hill, 2720 Morgan Hill Road, Easton with visitation from 10 to 11:00 in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be private in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

George Leigh Veit

George Leigh Veit, 72, of Wayzata, MN formerly of Easton passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2013.

Personal: George was born on July 13, 1941, to Mary (Leigh) and Carl Veit. He was a 1959 graduate of Easton High School, served in the U.S. Navy, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. George worked in international banking for many years with his career taking him and his family to London, England for eight years. He was a lover of all things mechanical, and he passed along his passion for aircraft, trains, cars, boats and steam tractors to his sons.

Survivors: A kind, gentle and devoted father and grandfather, George is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Lee (Gibbs), also an Easton native; sons: Charlie and his wife Jenny of Minneapolis, MN, Andy and his wife Leslie of Iowa City, IA, and Bobby and his wife Lee of Raleigh, NC; and eight grandchildren:  Julia, Josie, Annika, Keely, Gray, Ella, George and Henry.

Services: Will be held Friday, September 20th at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 330 Ferry Street,  Easton, with a calling period from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the church; interment will follow in Easton Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Wendell B. Smith

September 9, 2013

Wendell B. Smith, 94 of Palmer Twp., PA died Monday, September 9, 2013 in his home.

Born: November 14, 1918 in Fredericktown, OH he was a son of the late Arthur T. and Ethel (Herendeen) Smith. He and his wife, Naomi (Lash) Smith have been married for 60 years.

Personal: He was a graduate of Ashland University in 1941 and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He had been employed by the Westinghouse Company in OH, NJ and PA for 38 years before retiring in 1981.

Memberships: He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Easton where he was a Deacon, an Elder and in the choir. He was a member of the Easton Kiwanis; past-president of AARP, Palmer; a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #170 in Fredericktown, Oh;  and 70 year member of Wayne Grange #160. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels from the 1980’s to 2013.

Survivors: His wife: Naomi; daughter: Ruthann Arras of Liverpool, NY; son-in-law: Sam Conard of Hillsborough, NJ; 3 grandchildren: Jesse, Shannon, Marissa; a great-grandson: Tyler; special niece: Diena Evilsizor and her husband Gary and special nephew: Bill Murphy and his wife: Phyllis. He was predeceased by a daughter: Esther Conard; 2 brothers: Donald and Kenneth Smith; and 2 sisters: Ruth Murphy and Helen Algire.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Saturday (9/14) in First Presbyterian Church, 333 Spring Garden St.; with a viewing from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

LeRoy R. Feflie

LeRoy R. Feflie, 57, of Palmer Township died Sunday, September 8, 2013 in his home.

Born:  March 1, 1956 in Easton, he was a son of the late Roy D. and Mary Ann (Bongard) Feflie and Shirley and Gerald Smith of Nazareth.

Personal:  He and his wife, the former Louise Rupp were married 16 years.  He worked in quality control for Harris Rebar, Bethlehem for over 10 years.

Memberships:  Lee was a member of the Safety First and West Easton Fire Co.  He was a motorcycle enthusiast, a NASCAR fan and an avid fisherman.

Survivors:  Wife, Louise; parents, Shirley and Gerald; son, Robert Dezzi; brothers, Richard, Judd and Jerry; sisters, Sharon, Pat, Brenda, Karen, Beverly, Kit and Kim; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dave Goodman.

Services:  A visitation will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8:00 pm in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

William H. Eisel, Jr.

September 7, 2013

William H. Eisel, Jr., of Penick Village, Southern Pines, NC, formerly of Easton, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, in First Health Hospice House, Pinehurst, NC.

Born: August 27, 1919 in Easton, PA he was a son of the late William and Florence (Weisenberger) Eisel, Sr.  His wife, Lena P. (Long) Eisel died in 2003, they had been married for 62 years at the time of her death.

Personal:  He was employed by Mack Printing, Easton as a typesetter for over 40 years before retiring and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a seaman second class. He was a 1937 graduate of Easton High School where he participated in track and baseball.  A lover of all sports, he was a frequent spectator of Lafayette College sports and never missed a sporting event that his son participated in during his high school and college years. His summers were spent at Saylor’s Lake, Saylorsburg, where he was president of both the fishing club and the lake homeowner’s association.  He also coached their Little League baseball team, the Saylor’s Lake Indians.

Survivors:  A son: William H. Eisel, III and his wife, Lois Ann, of Seven Lakes, NC; two grandchildren: Matthew Eisel of Mechanicsburg, PA and Jennifer Henning of Danville, PA; two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Elijah Henning of Danville; and an aunt: Dorothy Eisel of Palmer Twp.

Services: Will be 11:30 a.m. Friday (9/13) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton, PA with a calling period from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Yolanda V. Deemer

September 7, 2013

Yolanda V. Deemer, 89, of Easton, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 in ManorCare, Palmer Township.

Born:  August 20, 1924 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Nicolletta Virgilio.

Personal:  She and her husband, Erwin C. Deemer were married 65 years.  Yolanda worked at Easton Hospital until retiring.  Prior to that she worked for Trans-O-Gram, Easton for many years.  She was also an avid Phillies fan.

Survivors:  Husband, Erwin; sons, Wayne Deemer and his wife, Michelle of Palmer Township and Ronald Deemer of Easton; daughter, Linda Shober and her husband, Michael of Bethlehem Township; sister, Edith Schwind of Patterson, NJ; grandchildren, Jeff Zemgulis, Joseph Shober and Linda Best; and three great grandchildren.  Ten brothers and sisters died earlier.

Services:  Services will be private.  Interment in Easton Heights Cemetery.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Barbara A. Werkheiser

Barbara A. Werkheiser, 72, of Amsterdam, OH formerly of Easton, PA died Friday, September 6, 2013 in the Weirton Medical Center, WV.

Born: July 6, 1941 in Easton she was a daughter of the late Russell and Mildred (Carty) Mucklin. Her husband Sherwood E. Werkheiser died in 1995.

Memberships: She had been a member of Concordia Maenerchor; Wilson Republican Club; West Easton Ladies Auxiliary; the Brown and Lynch Post; and the former Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors: Five children: JoAnn Murray, Donna Stamets, Joseph Taormina, Jr. all of Easton, BrendaLee Howell of Nazareth, Russell Taormina of Amsterdam, OH; a brother: Ronald Mucklin of Easton; 7 grandchildren: Angela, Faith, Artie, Brandon, Adam, Jeanette and Joshua;  4 great-grandchildren and a companion: Ronald Ostrander, Sr., with whom she resided. She was predeceased by her husband: Sherwood, siblings: Robert and Jacqueline Mucklin and a grandson: Jason.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday (9/12) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Nancy Everhart Reynolds

Nancy Everhart Reynolds, 84, formerly of Wyckoff, NJ died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth.

Born: October 4, 1928 in York, PA she was a daughter of the late Cyril W. and Margaret Altland Everhart.

Memberships: She was member of Westside Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, NJ; the D.A.R. and Wyckoff Women’s Club. She also volunteered for Valley Hospital and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors: Two daughters: Susan Jaques and her husband James of Easton, PA; Kathryn Farina of Prospect, CT and four grandchildren: Sara, Allison, John and Thomas. She was predeceased by her husband John and brother Cyril, Jr.

Services: Will be at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Prospect Hills Cemetery, York, PA. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.
