Verna M. Uhler

Verna M. Uhler, 91, of Palmer Township died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Born:  December 25, 1920 in Ackermanville, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Beulah (Ackerman) Ruch.

Personal:  Her husband, Amos F. Uhler died in 1973.  She was the President of Messinger Supply Co., Palmer Township.

Memberships:  Verna was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilson Borough where she was named Woman of the Year and was a member of the Altar Guild and Sewing Circle.  She was a member of American Legion, Brown and Lynch Post 9, Ladies Auxiliary and the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Survivors:  A son, Mark A. Uhler of Palmer Township; three daughters, Marianne Baltrotsky of Frederick, MD, Alice Dietrich and her husband, Ed of Williams Township and Jeanette Herster and her husband, Thomas of Palmer Township; two sisters, Erma Miller and Doris Brewer both of Bangor; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Gue, Karen Antizzo, Michael Baltrotsky, Carol Dietrich-Sofera, Edward Dietrich, IV, Elizabeth Feather and Andrew Herster and 9 great grandchildren. A brother, Ralph Ruch and two sisters, Martha Strauss and Arlene Pysher died earlier.

Services:  2:30 pm Saturday, October 27 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2115 Washington Blvd., Wilson Borough. Call from 1:30 pm until service time Saturday in the church and from 7 – 8:30 pm Friday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment in Forks Cemetery.

Kenneth M. Stocker

Kenneth M. Stocker, 79, of Easton, formerly of Bethlehem died Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Easton Hospital.

Born: May 26, 1933 in Bethlehem he was a son of the late George, Sr. and Minnie Mack Stocker.

Personal: He had been employed as a cook at the Allentown State Hospital for many years before retiring and was an Army veteran.

Survivors: A sister: May Horning in Utah; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 7 brothers.

Charles L. Easterday

Charles L. Easterday, 40, of Easton died Friday, October 19, 2012.

Born:  January 24, 1972 in Wilson Borough, he was a son of Mary (Bartholomew) Woeppel and the late Charles E. Easterday.

Survivors:  mother, Mary; daughter, Shanice Nickel; son, Charles Easterday; sisters, Angela Easterday, Tammy Brunstetter, Charlene Statler, Karen Kocher, Robin Schaneberger, Rebecca Krasenics and Kristine Woeppel; grandmother, Helen Bartholomew and ex-spouse, Laura Nickel.  His step-father, Russell Woeppel and his brother, Russell Woeppel died earlier.

Services:  Private. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Jasbir Singh

Jasbir Singh, 53, of Easton died Friday, October 5, 2012 in Easton Hospital after being stricken at home.

Born: November 14, 1958 in India he was a son of Harbhajan Singh and Krishan Kaur with whom he resided.

Survivors: His parents; 2 sons: Ravinder and Davinder; a brother: Rajinder and 5 sisters: Baljeet, Narinder, Atamjit, Ajeet and Paramjeet.

Evelyn I. Mertz

Evelyn I. Mertz, 82, of Easton died Thursday in Cedarbrook Nursing Home.

Born:  March 19, 1930, she was a daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Conrad) LaBar.

Personal:  Her husband, Earl Mertz died in 1988.

Memberships:  She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Easton and the Easton Area Senior Center.

Survivors:  daughters, Joanne Travis and Deborah Cuoco; brother, James LaBar; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter.

Robert A. Paulus

September 30, 2012

Robert A. Paulus, 84, of Palmer Twp. died Sunday, September 30, 2012 in ManorCare Health Services, Palmer.

Born: November 25, 1927 in Easton he was the son of the late Raymond W. and Gertrude Schaefer Paulus.

Personal: A 1945 graduate of Easton High School, he served in the Army during WWII receiving the Victory Medal. He graduated from Rider College in 1951 and was an accountant for J.T. Baker for more than 40 years before retiring in 1992. He was an avid fan of Easton High School wrestling and had a delightful and unexpectedly wry sense of humor. Robert was also known as a mentor in service to those in recovery.

Memberships: He had been a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors: His wife, the former Carolyn Kriel Mosko; son: Donald R. Paulus of Allentown; daughter: Patricia E. Paulus of Philadelphia; step-daughters: Natalie R. Lauer of Bethlehem; Stephanie J. Heather and her husband Scott of Canton, OH; step-son: Michael W. Mosko and his wife Wendy of Quakertown; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters: Ruth Dugan and Irene Hunt.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday (10/5) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St.,  Easton with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Isabel B. Frankenfield

Isabel B. Frankenfield, 93, of Wilson Borough died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in Gracedale.

Born: February 12, 1919 in W. Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Howard A., Sr. and Sarah E. Bickhart Schlough.

Personal: A 1937 graduate of Easton High School she had been employed by the Rudolph Pocketbook Factory for several years. She was an avid reader, who loved to crochet and spend time with her family. She also taught Sunday School at the former St. Mark’s UCC, Easton for many years.

Survivors: Her husband of 58 years: Harold A. Frankenfield; 2 sons: Paul E. Hulbert and his wife Delma; David L. Hulbert and his wife Joan all of Wilson; 2 daughters: Jean I. Sampson and her husband Thomas of Forks Twp.; Lynn M. Walters and her husband Jeffrey of Palmer Twp.; a sister: Emma Bush of Nazareth; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband: Paul Hulbert, Sr. in 1947; a son: Barry Hulbert;  brother: Howard Schlough; and sisters: Elizabeth Hazen and Lillian Bruneio.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday (9/24) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton; with visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Catherine H. VanNess

Catharine H. VanNess, 75, of Bethlehem died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia.

Born: July 24, 1937 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late George F. Hellick, Jr.  and Beatrice Churchill Hellick. Her husband Charles G. VanNess, III died in 2009.

Personal: She was a graduate of Easton High School and Lebanon Valley College and had been a substitute teacher for Colonial I.U. 20 and Easton Area School District.

Memberships: She was a very active member of the Central Moravian Church, Bethlehem.

Survivors: Her son: Bruce C. VanNess of Bethlehem; her brother: George F. Hellick, III and his wife Mary Jo of Hellertown; and 3 nieces.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (9/25) in the Central Moravian Church sanctuary, Church and Main Streets, Bethlehem; with a calling period from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.
