Antonia R. “Irma” Rivera

Antonia R. “Irma” Rivera, 61, of Easton, died Monday, December 12, 2011 in her home.

Born: March 23, 1950 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Francisco Rivera and Carmen Ramos.

Personal: She was a selfless caregiver who had the least but gave the most.

Memberships: She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish.

Survivors: Three daughters, Omayra Rivera, Madeline Rivera and Wanda Rivera of Easton; two sons, Julio Rivera and Arthur “Bubbi” Keastead of Easton; her companion, Mario Maldonado; four brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 am Friday in St. Bernard’s Oratory, 132 S. Fifth St., Easton. Call 3 – 4:30 pm Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton and from 9:30 am until service time Friday in St. Bernard’s Oratory. Interment in Easton Heights Cemetery.

Joan P. Smith

Joan P. Smith, 79, of Forks Township, passed away at home with her family by her side on December 12, 2011.

Born: May 11, 1932 in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Sylvia Sampson. Though an only child, she had many family members who embraced her as a sister.

Personal: Joan was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School Class of 1950. She married her adoring husband, Robert, who honorably served his country in the United States Navy for twenty years while Joan worked in an administrative position for our government and raised their daughters.  Known as a gracious hostess, her door and heart were always open.  She loved to laugh and some of her happiest times were spent in North Carolina with her family.

Survivors: Joan will be lovingly remembered by her family. Daughter, Sylvia Smith; daughter, Kathleen Heiselmeyer and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Holly, Michael, Jennifer and Christine.  She was predeceased by her husband, Robert and daughters, Juliet and Karen.  Joan was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Services: At the request of the family, services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Memorials: From the age of four, Joan was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Third Lutheran Church.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Third Lutheran Church, 2561 Newburg Rd., Easton, PA 18045.

Vincent D. Knapp

December 12, 2011

Vincent D. Knapp, 65, of Easton died Monday, December 12, 2011 in ManorCare, Palmer Twp.

Born: September 30, 1946 in Corpus Christi, TX he was a son of the late David H. and Angela Vallante Knapp.

Personal: He had been employed by the Olive Garden in Palmer for 10 years. He also served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.

Survivors: a son: Vincent, Jr. in Maryland; sisters: Judith Budzinski and her husband Joseph of Bloomsbury, NJ; Linda Martin of Palmer Twp.; nieces: Marie Viscione; Pamela Knapp; nephew: Joseph Budzinski; 3 great-nieces and step-mother: Mary Knapp of Palmer Twp. He was predeceased by a brother: David Knapp and sister: Shirley Burrows.

Services: graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, William’s Twp. with a calling period from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

Jose J. Santiago

Jose J. Santiago, 22, of Easton died Sunday, December 11, 2011 in Wilson Borough.

Born: November 20, 1989 in Bethlehem , PA he was a son of Nelida Bordoy Rodriguez with whom he resided and Jose M. Santiago of Easton .

Personal: A 2008 graduate of Easton High School , he was employed by Daniels Sharpsmart, Inc. of Forks Twp. as a production associate.

Survivors: his parents; a daughter: Giliana; brother: Luis; sister: Maygualida; half-sister: Diana; grandparents: Juan and Engracia Santiago all of Easton ; and grandparents: Noelia Rodriguez and Luis Bordoy in Puerto Rico .

Services: will be 2 p.m. Friday in Iglesia de Cristo Pentecostal Church, 1201 Spring Garden St. , Easton, with a calling period from 1 to 2 in the church; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Easton Heights Cemetery .

Elaine L. Lewis

December 2, 2011

Elaine L. Lewis, 87, of Bethlehem Township, died Friday, December 2, 2011 in VNA Hospice of St. Luke’s.

Born: December 2, 1924 in Erie, PA, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Hazel (Smith) Whipple.

Personal: Elaine was employed by Lafayette College for over 25 years. Her husband, Samuel D. Lewis died in 1995.

Survivors: Her daughter, Sharon Lewis of Bethlehem Township; her son, Thomas Lewis and his wife, Pat, of Nazareth; her companion, Chief Earle Brotzman of Easton; two grandchildren, Joshua and Amanda; four great grandchildren, Zach, Samantha, Brandon and Carson and two brothers.

Services: A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Elwood W. Johnson

November 30, 2011

Elwood W. Johnson, 64, of Easton died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in Easton Hospital but was able to give the ‘gift of life’ to others as an organ donor.

Born: September 5, 1947 in Easton he was a son of the late Harvey and Amelia Messinger Johnson.

Personal: He had been the custodian at the Temple Covenant of Peace and was also a handyman in the Easton area.

Memberships: He was fondly considered a member of the Temple Covenant of Peace family; and was also a member of the American Legion, Rice Ebner Post.

Survivors: Among his survivors are a brother: Dale Johnson; sister: Eileen Almanzar both of Easton; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m., December 11th  in the Temple, 15th & Northampton Sts., Easton; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Memorials: may be made to the Temple Covenant of Peace, 1451 Northampton St., Easton, PA 18042 for the family.

Lucille Shuttleworth

November 27, 2011

Lucille Shuttleworth, 83, of Lower Mount Bethel Township, formerly of Wilson Borough, has found Eternal Peace after a valiant battle with cancer and complications.  She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing on Sunday, November 27, 2011.

Born: February 11, 1928 in Wilson Borough, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Anna (Trach) Hevener.

Personal: Preceding her in death was her dear husband, William H. “Bill” Shuttleworth. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1945 and worked for many years at Moravian Academy before retiring in the 1990’s.  After retiring she did volunteer work, mostly at Gracedale Nursing Home. She was a devoted, loving and beloved wife and mother. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and reading, and she appreciated the wildlife and natural beauty around her cherished home along the river.

Memberships: She was a member of Belvidere United Methodist Church, Belvidere, NJ.
Survivors: Her son, Ned Shuttleworth of Wilson Borough; her daughter, Kay Shuttleworth of Maumelle, AR and her sister, Marie Hagenbuch of Bethlehem.

Services: 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Call from 12:30 pm until service time Wednesday in the funeral home.

Evelyn June McIntyre

Evelyn June McIntyre, 83, of Easton died Sunday, November 27, 2011 in Manor Care, Old Orchard.

Born: June 9, 1928 in Martins Creek, PA she was a daughter of the late Arthur, Sr. and Susan Rasley Muth. Her husband Charles J. “Bud” McIntyre died in 1983.

Personal: She had been employed by Burger King, Palmer Twp. for more than 20 years before retiring.

Survivors: 3 sons: Charles J., II and his wife Susan of Waxham, NC; Joseph T. and his wife Cathy of Forks Twp.; Brian K. in Hawaii; 2 daughters: Gwen M. Embardino of Easton; Geraldine Wolfe and her husband Douglas of Sunset Beach, NC; 2 sisters: Florence Campbell of Wilson Borough; Shirley Scartoli of Easton; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and a brother: Arthur Muth, Jr.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.
