Valerie A. Legath

Valerie A. Legath, 66, formerly of Easton, died Sunday, September 25, 2022 in Paoli Hospital.  Born April 7, 1956 in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. Smith, Esq. and Margaret (Kohl) Smith.  Valerie was a graduate of Easton Area High School and Cedar Crest College.

Surviving are two sons, Steve Legath and Tom Legath; her brother, Craig Smith, Esq.; and her grandson, Matthew Browning Legath.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 1, 2022 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.  Offer online condolences at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com.

John E. Grube, Jr.

September 24, 2022

John E. Grube, Jr., 73, of Easton, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2022 in Old Orchard Health Care Center. Born June 9, 1949 in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late John Grube and Cora Yob. John was the devoted husband of 42 years to the late Sherry (Unangst) Grube. John proudly served in the US Army. He worked construction before retiring. He enjoyed archery and hunting and will be most remembered for his generosity, good heart, and great sense of humor.

John is survived by his daughters, Kristine Heckman and her husband, Bob of Bath, Susan Ely and her husband, Scott of Palmer Township, and Kendra Grube of Allentown; his sons, Ken Grube and his wife, Kim of Wind Gap, Mike Grube and his companion, Sandy Sottolano of Wilson Borough, Jim Grube of Denham Springs, LA, and Randy Grube and his wife, Lynn of Easton; his sister, Shirley Miller of Wilson Borough; his family and best friend, George Frack of Nazareth; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 30, 2022 in The Historic Easton Cemetery, 401 N. 7th St., Easton. Dr. John C. Flynn

September 22, 2022

John C. Flynn, 90, of Morrisville, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022. John was born on March 31, 1932 in Moosic, Pennsylvania to Theodore Chidsey Flynn and Myrtle June Flynn. John received a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University in 1957, a Master of Arts from Ohio State University in 1959 and a Ph.D. from Ohio State in 1961. While a graduate student at Ohio State he met, and in January of 1958 married, Eleanor Sofia Ray, a graduate of Vanderbilt University and a fellow grad student at Ohio State. John served in the U.S. Navy for four years where he was a musician in the Admiral’s band. Dr. Flynn was an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa from 1961 to 1963. In 1963 he joined the Faculty of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he taught undergraduate and graduate students and conducted research for 33 years. He retired from Baylor in 1996 as Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology.

Dr. Flynn is survived by his beloved wife, Elli, a son, Michael Charles Flynn, and a daughter, Kathryn Flynn Delacote and three grandchildren, Chloe, Max and Ryan Delacote. A funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Church, Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

Evelyn C. Shafer

Evelyn C. Shafer, 80, of Avona Heights, died Monday, September 19, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Born September 21, 1941 in West Easton, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Helen B. (Connelly) O’Toole. She and her husband, John P. Shafer, Jr. were married 60 years. She worked at the Express-Times for 35 years until retiring in 2004. Prior to that she worked for Wilshire Curtain Company and Shapiro and Sons. She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church. She was also a Life Member of Palmer Township Fire Company and Avona Volunteer Fire Company. Evelyn enjoyed shopping, Sunday drives, soap operas, reruns of The Waltons and Monk; and she especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up.

Surviving with her husband, John are a son, John P. Shafer, III of West Easton; a sister, Anna Searfoss of Checotah, OK; four granddaughters, Beth Ann, Ashley, Briana, and Shana; and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Wednesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Stanley A. Price

Stanley A. Price

Stanley A. Price, 96, of Forks Twp., PA died Sunday, September 18, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Easton. Born September 29, 1925 in Phillipsburg, NJ he was the son of the late Ethel (Alpaugh) and U. Grant Price. A 1943 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, he attended Michigan State College and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He retired as Vice President of First Valley Bank after more than 20 years in 1984. Prior to that he was employed by Kendall-Ewan Motor and Dockery Ford.

He had been a Director of the Lehigh Valley Consumer Counseling Service; Chair of the Consumer Credit Division, PA Banker’s Assoc.; and Past-President of the Bethlehem Credit Bureau. He was also a Charter Member of the Black Diamond Society of Model Engineers; a Founding Member of the Forks Twp. Historical Society; member of the Palmer Twp. Historical Society and a volunteer at the National Canal Museum. Stanley was a member of First Moravian Church, Easton where he served as an Elder and Trustee and was a Member of the Year Honoree.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Dorothy M. Greiner; nieces and nephews: Kurt Kueng, Jr., Robert Kueng, Kathy Koplen, Barbara Jo Franklin; and goddaughters: Lisa Pysher and Beth Brdar. His daughter, Pamela Lechner and sister, Mary “Pat” Price predeceased him.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday (Sept. 21) at Northampton Memorial Shrine, 3051 Green Pond Rd, Easton, PA. Carol Ann Pollock

Carol A. Pollock

Carol Ann Pollock, 79, of Easton, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep, Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Promedica Old Orchard. Born December 15, 1942 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Clara (Smith) Fretz and the wife of George Anthony Pollock who in died in 1987. She was employed by the Easton Express for 20 years before retiring, prior to that she was employed by Keystone Restaurant. Carol enjoyed listening to Elvis and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. She also enjoyed trips to Canada, the beach, and an occasional game of cards and bingo. But most of all, Carol loved her children, great and grand.

She is survived by her daughter: Tammy Graham and her husband Kevin of Bethlehem Twp., PA; her son: George H. Pollock of Wilkes-Barre, PA; sister: Bonnie Yard; 5 grandchildren: Joseph (Paige), John, Jean Marie, Allison (Daniel) and James; and 5 great-grandchildren: Anthony, Rowan, Sutton, Graysen and Mia.

Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 20 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA with a calling period from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Interment is in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Robert C. Peters

Robert C. Peters, 84, of Bethlehem Township, died Monday, September 12, 2022 in his home. Born May 16, 1938 in Tatamy, he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth (Frey) Peters. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1956 where he was the manager for the football team. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served for four years. He then worked for Mack Printing for 41 years. Bob was an avid Nazareth football and wrestling fan for over 50 years.

Surviving are his wife, Jane L. (Bonstein) Peters; four sisters, Virginia Siegfried, Ruth Kemmerer, Ellen Laurito, and Elaine Gorby; a half-sister, Susan Worman; two brothers, Carl Peters and Danny Peters; and many nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Elizabeth Laubach, June Long, and Sandra Brown died earlier.

Services will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be private in Northampton Memorial Shrine. Marlene P. Vitale, 84, of Palm Coast, Florida, died Friday, September 9, 2022 in Florida. She was born January 25, 1938. Her husband, James Vitale died in 2010.
