Virginia (Ginger) Schocker
April 1, 1931 – September 10, 2025
Virginia “Ginger” Schocker, 94, formerly of Easton, Pa., passed away peacefully at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Pa. on September 10, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Estelle and Jerome Lehman, Ginger graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, earned her B.A. from Hunter College, and later received a Master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University.
She dedicated her life to education, teaching third grade for 26 years at Greenwich Township, N.J., and also at Franklin Township, Wilson High School, and the Religious School of Temple Covenant of Peace. A patient and gifted tutor, she helped countless children discover the joy of reading.
Ginger was a devoted member of B’nai Abraham Synagogue and active in many organizations. She served as president of the Town and Country African Violet Society, the Easton Doll Collectors Club, the Greenwich Township Education Association, the Activities Board of the Jewish Community Center, the Easton Leisure Club, and Center Grove.
In her personal life, Ginger found joy in gardening, traveling, antiques, and art. She nurtured her gardens with the same patience she gave her students and delighted in discovering beauty wherever she went.
She is survived by her loving partner of 35 years, William “Bill” Sheff; her son, John Urban and his wife Dr. Micaella Schocker of Glen Mills, Pa.; her son-in-law, Dr. Roy Lerner of New Rochelle, N.Y.; and her grandchildren, Ross and Marney Lerner. She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Jolie Lerner; and her sister, Paulette Soloway. She was formerly married to Hyman “Hank” Schocker, with whom she shared her children.
