
Name: William C. Holstein, 87, formerly of Palmer Twp. died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in the Lutheran Home at Topton.
Born: March 25, 1924 in Mt. Washington, PA he was a son of the late William E. and Marvel Arndt Holstein. His wife of 60 years, the former Merita Davis died in 2006.
Personal: He was an Associate Professor of Engineering at Lafayette College from 1962 until retiring. He had also been employed by D’Huy Engineering, Bethlehem; A.L. Wiesenberger Assoc., Allentown; West and Wells Engineers, Bethlehem, and designed many bridges, approaches, and highway ramps throughout the Lehigh Valley, including Route 33, and also in the Pittsburgh area, notably the Fort Pitt Bridge and the Fort Duquesne Bridge. A graduate of Union College, he received his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. William was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather.
Memberships: He loved his Lord and Savior serving Him at Calvary United Methodist Church on their Board of Trustees, Church Council and as a Lay Leader. He was also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; Dallas Lodge #396, F & AM; and Lehigh Consistory (32 Degree).
Survivors: His children: Janet Cholin and her husband Roger of Trout Run, PA; Karen Harakal Kuhns and her husband Jon of Lenhartsville, PA; David Holstein and his wife Bette Lou of Bethlehem; 6 grandchildren: Andy Cholin; Michelle Cholin Steppe, Traci Holstein, Jeff, Matt and Dan Harakal; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife: Merita and brother: Dr. Floyd A. Holstein.
Services: Will be 3 p.m. Monday (3/12) in Calvary UM Church, 4411 Green Pond Rd., Easton with a calling period from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine.
