William G. Dohe

December 10, 2018

William G. Dohe

William G. Dohe, 53  of Easton, PA passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at home. William was a man with such a presence; his light filled not only the space he held, but our hearts as well. His visionary perspective on life, nature, and the community helped him to create a world that we all have come to know and love. He was a simple, humble, honest man with much dignity and respect. A heart full of compassion, with a deep understanding of the Universe. His wisdom, kindness, and generosity experienced by all who knew him. My husband’s love for nature was his foundation. He understood its laws and basic principles, and his life and work reflected that. William built his practice, R+D Architecture, from the ground up. His legacy lives on through his architectural designs, and through each of us. Not only have we lost a beautiful soul, but the Earth lost one of her greatest stewards. May we strive to live a more sustainable, and environmentally conscious life in honor of our beloved William.

Born January 19, 1965 he was the son of Virgil and Jo Ann Dohe, brother to Emily Folz, Allison James, and Carrie Dohe. The brother-in-law of Rod Folz, and uncle to Rodney, Caroline and Ryan Folz and Nicole and Coda Pease. Least we forget, Papa to his four-legged ones, Einstein, Niya & Ember. His being will be deeply missed, and his love will live on forever within our hearts, in nature, and within our community. His wife, Ashley Dohe, will continue to carry out his mission in honor of his life and love.

Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A Farewell Ceremony will be held Sunday, Dec. 23 from 1-2 pm at the Forks of the Delaware in Easton at Scott Park. Please bring a chair if you are unable to stand comfortably for 45 mins. Following the Ceremony a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 3-5 pm at Durham Springs, 5065 Lehnenburg Rd., Kintnersville, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nurture Nature Center, 518 Northampton St, Easton, PA 18042. NNC intends to use all funds donated in William Dohe’s memory in ways that will honor him by furthering his lifelong environmental interests, and will be working with the family on how to best accomplish this.

I have known Will for a very long time, back to the late 70’s. And while we were not close friends we were friends none the less. Will was a kind soul, always had a smile, and a spark in his eyes that seemed to say he was always thinking of the next thing. After graduation, like a lot of people we went our different ways, and like a lot of people reconnected with social media. I was so glad to see that he met his soul mate in Ashley. These past few years he was so happy and so alive. He was one of a kind and the world is a bit dimmer today.

We are deeply sorry for your sudden loss of William. We had just met Will and were moved by his vibrant energy, warmth and love of nature. In that brief time we knew him, he taught us and opened up a world of awareness to the joys and responsibilities of maintaining a habitat to support our songbirds and other native species. He was so passionate about the thing he cared about and transferred that sense of awe to us around him. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Rada and John

I recall the days of the formation of the LV Sustainable Business Network and the US Green Building Council chapter where I first met Will. A humble man, he was gifted with an incredible mind and talent, that was joined with his generosity and kindness. He is already incredibly missed and my heart goes out to Ashley & family, Will’s mother & sisters, and all that knew to know him was to love him. May he be at peace.

We are truly saddened by the sudden loss of so vibrant a young man. He worked with us on major renovations of our home in 2005-2006. It was a pleasure to work with him and his firm. We stayed in touch on and off over the years afterward, and last saw him at Ocean several months ago. We offer our sincerest condolences to Ashley and her family and to Will’s family.

I looked forward to our regular “man-dates”, where we talked current events, shared funny stories, ate well, drank great wine, and sometimes had a cigar on your patio. Our last one wasn’t so great as you were not feeling well, but you still made the effort to join me. We even spoke on the phone recently saying we needed to get the wives together. How I wished we would have done that before you left us!

You were one of the first people to welcome Josy and me to Easton. You helped us navigate so many issues with our properties and city bureaucracy. Most importantly, you welcomed us into your home and heart.

I will miss you terribly, my friend. But, I also know, when our time comes, you will greet us with an incredible glass of wine, a smile, and a tour of heaven. I’m sure you’re already giving God design suggestions on how to make heaven a more inviting place.

    God bless and keep you.

    Ashley
Having just met you today and hearing about your husband Bill, I feel your sadness and empathize. You asked how to get through it…slowly, a minute at a time. Cry – celebrate him – cry more. Talk to him..yell at him. Celebrate his life. Stay around friends and family. Stay busy but cry when needed. talk to people about him. Often. I read his obituary. What an accomplished person. Continue his legacy. I know you will.

    To Will’s wife and family,
My husband and I consulted Will for some addition ideas many years ago. His plans clearly reflected his love of nature as well as his creative genius. Will was patient, kind and funny during our appointments, and our dog thought he was pretty awesome, too. I am deeply saddened and shocked to have peripherally discovered notice of Will’s passing while viewing a former teacher’s obit notice online from December, which I had just been informed of.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. We were fortunate to have met Will. Although we were too afraid as a young married couple to commit to remodeling our small home, and still have not done so years later, we still have Will’s designs and were just talking about him the other day. My heart is heavy.
I pray the few months that have passed have brought you comfort if possible. We will keep you and Will in our thoughts and prayers and trust that he is an even bigger part of this beautiful planet.
