William H. “Bill” Bishop Jr., formerly of Easton, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Normandy Farms retirement-life community in Blue Bell, PA. He would have been 95 years old in July. His wife was the former Jeanne Moser, now deceased, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Bill was the son of the late William H. Bishop Sr. and Emily A. (Werner) Bishop. He attended public schools in Easton and graduated from the former Penn State College in May 1943. He immediately entered Infantry Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA, graduating as a Second Lieutenant. He served with the 84th Infantry Division through the WW II campaigns of Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 with the rank of Captain.
Bill was employed by the former JT Baker Chemical Co. of Phillipsburg, NJ for 36 years. During that time he was a founding member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society and served as Director of Purchasing at Baker for 15 years. He was a member of the NY Purchasing Agents Association and achieved the title of Certified Purchasing Manager. After his retirement from JT Baker in 1983, he was a self-employed sales consultant for Davos Chemical of Fort Lee, NJ, retiring again in 1995.A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Easton for over 66 years, he taught Sunday School and served on the church council property and finance committees. He was a great lover of classical music and sang in the church choir.
He is survived by his two children: William H. Bishop III (Mary Ellen Cassidy) of Blue Bell and Susan (Bishop) Soraruf(L. Peter) of Kennett Square, PA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and his companion of several years, Marilyn Workman, formerly of Easton. He was predeceased by a brother Richard Bishop and sister Carolyn (Bishop) Collinge.
Services are 11 AM Monday (April 30) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NJ.
