Alma Grace Daws

Alma Grace Daws, 86, formerly of Palmer Twp. died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth.

Born: February 14, 1926 in Wanamaker, PA she was a daughter of the late Carl and Carrie Kistler Dietrich. She and her husband Herbert Robert Daws have been married for 56 years.

Personal: She was a graduate of Kutztown HS and Kutztown University and was an accomplished pianist. She had been the first kindergarten teacher at the Palmer Elementary School and taught 2600 pupils in Pennsburg, Allentown and Easton during a 39 year career in public education before retiring in 1985. She also traveled extensively in the US, Canada and Europe.

Memberships: She was an active member of Palmer Moravian Church, Palmer Twp. where she sang in the Choir, served on the Music Committee, Women’s Fellowship Executive Board, co-chaired the Ruth Circle, co-chaired, with her husband, the 50th Anniversary Observance of the Church and was a Head Sacristan. She also served on the Women’s Board of Easton Hospital; had been Secretary of the Crescendo Music Club and member of the Kutztown Alumni Association.

Survivors: Her husband Bob; 2 sisters: Gladys Rutter of Sellersville; Lucille Rothermel of Lititz; nieces and nephews.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday (4/5) in the church, 2901 John St., Palmer with a calling period from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St, Easton. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Memorial Contributions: May be made to the Palmer Moravian Church, 2901 John St., Easton, PA 18045.

    Mrs Daws was my kindergarten teacher in 1980. I remember her playing the piano and singing to the class every day. Great woman with a big heart.
