Harriet S. McCurdy, 92 died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, PA. Born November 28, 1922 in Sunbury, PA she was a daughter of the late Frances (Crone) and Grover Shipman.

A graduate of Sunbury High School, she had been employed by the Jackson Wheelbarrow Manufacturing Co. in Harrisburg for many years. She had also been a member of the Trindle Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years: William R. McCurdy; a daughter: Janet Gruninger of Forks Twp., PA; a son: Brian McCurdy of Kennesaw, GA; a sister: Marian Tressler and 3 grandchildren.

Services are 11:30 AM Saturday,(Sept. 5) in the United Lutheran Church, 167 Seven Points Road, Sunbury, PA with a calling period from 11 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the United Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Dorothy M. Brotzman, 94, of Palmer Twp., PA died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Phoenixville Hospital. Born September 15, 1920 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Helen (Hentzelman) and Earle L. Brotzman.

A graduate of Easton High School and East Stroudsburg University, she was a teacher in the Easton Area School District and in Long Island, NY before retiring and returning to her home town in recent years.

She was predeceased by her brother: Chief Earle Brotzman of the Easton Fire Department; a sister: Lois Lewis and a nephew: Stewart “Skipper” Lewis . She is survived by a sister: Helen Rose of Horseheads, NY; and 11 nieces and nephews and their families.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1) with a calling period from 10-11 a.m. in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA.  Interment will be in Easton Heights Cemetery.

Craig T. Stewart, 61, of Raubsville, PA died Monday, August 24, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born August 28, 1953 in Easton, PA and was a 1971 graduate of Easton High School. He had been employed by A & D Tile for more than 30 years. Craig loved fishing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marcia L. (Meyers); 3 children: Craig R. of Palmer Twp., PA, Vernae L. Horwath and her husband Brad of Bethlehem, PA, Curt T. and his wife Sandra of Easton, PA; 6 grandchildren: Chloe, Haley, Cade, Bryn, Tristan and Wynter; his parents and 2 sisters.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday (Aug. 28) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA with a calling period from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Marion Rose Allen, 83, formerly of Forks Twp., PA died August 23, 2015 at Gracedale. Born October 25, 1931 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Alice (Greenleaf) and Alexander Archer.

She was employed by Strongwear Pants Co., Easton for many years before retiring. Prior to that she worked for A & H Sportswear and the candy factory in Wilson. She attended the Southside Senior Center and was an avid seamstress who loved to cross-stitch and crochet. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and her cabin in the mountains.

She is survived by 2 children: Susan Rabenold and her husband James of Easton, PA, Richard Allen, Jr. and his wife Debra of Wind Gap, PA; siblings: Earl Deihl, Nancy Dunlap, Linda Barber, Dorothy Deihl; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer Weidner, Tammy Carita, Jacob and Jordan Allen; 6 great-grandchildren: Brandon Carita, Zachary, Cheyanne, Mateo, and Jevin Weidner and Summer Rose Shifflett. She was predeceased by her husband Richard “Bud” Allen, Sr. who died in 1993 and a brother Alexander Archer who was killed in action in Korea in 1950.

Services are 11 AM Friday, (Aug. 28) in Forks United Church of Christ, 4500 Sullivan Trail, Stockertown, PA 18083 with visitation from 10 to 11 AM in the church. Interment is in Forks Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

George J. Mechalakos, 92 a lifetime resident of Easton, PA and veteran of World War II, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital after a long illness.  He was born on July 17, 1923 in Easton, PA, the son of James Mechalakos and Jane Stamatakos of Sparta, Greece.

In his youth he divided his time between school and work at the Easton Sweet Shop, the family business and prominent Easton fixture, founded in 1916 by his father.  After the death of his father when George was 15, he went on to graduate from Easton High School with a perfect 12 year attendance record while simultaneously managing the Easton Sweet Shop with his mother.  After graduating from high school in 1938 he enrolled at Lafayette College, soon after taking leave from his studies to enlist in the United States Army during World War II.  He fought in Germany as a member of Company K, 335th Infantry Regiment where he was captured and held as a prisoner of war until his release and honorable discharge in 1946 at the rank of sergeant.  He received numerous citations for his service, including 2 bronze stars.  Upon his return home he completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Lafayette and resumed management of the Sweet Shop. He met his future wife Chrisanthe in 1962 and they were married in 1963.  They co-managed the Easton Sweet Shop until their retirement in 1984. He was also owner of James Realty which included the former Sweet Shop and adjoining properties until 2005.  George was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Chrisanthe, his son James and wife Martha, and his grandchildren Mary and George Mechalakos. He was predeceased by his sister Mary in 1992.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, (Aug.  27) in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 20th St. and Hay Terrace, Easton with visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.
