Donald L. Christian

January 2, 2013

Donald L. Christian, 77, of Palmer Twp. died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus.

Born: February 17, 1935 in Easton he was a son of the late Donald D. and Dorothy Rodgers Christian. His wife the former Lois Lambert died in 1971.

Personal: A 1952 graduate of Easton High School he was employed by Mack Printing in Wilson for 42 years before retiring. He was also a volunteer at the Conrad Raker Center of Good Shepherd and for Meals on Wheels.

Memberships: He was a member of New Creation United Church of Christ, Palmer Twp., formerly St. Mark’s UCC, where he was a lifelong member, Elder and Deacon. He loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Eagles Hunting Club.

Survivors: A daughter: Tamara Kurtz and her husband David of Pottstown, PA; a son: Donald D. of Allentown; a brother: Richard H. of Kunkletown; 4 granddaughters; and companion: Dortha Ryerson.

Services: 3:00 p.m. Sunday (1/6) in New Creation United Church of Christ, 3730 Nicholas St., Easton, with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be private in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Pauline E. Sickels

January 1, 2013

Pauline E. Sickels, 81, formerly of Palmer Twp. died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in the VNA of St. Luke’s Hospice House.

Born: August 18, 1931 in Easton she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ellen Stacy Schneebeli. Her husband Walter S. Sickels, Sr. died in 2002.

Personal: A graduate of Wilson High School, she had been an Assistant Treasurer at Lafayette Trust for more than 20 years before retiring. She also taught Bible Studies in Bethlehem for many years.

Memberships: She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Easton and the Red Hat Society.

Survivors: 2 sons: Walter S., Jr. of Williams Twp., Paul C. and his wife Karen of Palmer Twp.; 2 brothers: Richard Schneebeli of Nazareth; Robert Schneebeli of Saylorsburg; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday (1/5) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Dennis Frank DeNardo

Dennis Frank DeNardo, 68, of Greentown, PA formerly of Easton, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Easton Hospital.

Born:  November 21, 1944 in Easton, he was a son of the late A. Frank and R. Jennie (Rota) DeNardo.

Personal:  He owned and operated Trails End and had been a car salesman for Young Volkswagen and Doug Cooper’s Auto Mall.  He also provided special effects for the rock band, Gandalf.  He was an honors student at Easton High School and graduated in 1963.  He also served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Memberships:  He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Survivors:  His wife, Barbara (Christman) DeNardo; a son, Dennis DeNardo of Bethlehem Township; a brother Tom DeNardo and his wife, Sandy of Nazareth; a sister, Diana Ricker of Florida and 2 grandsons.

Services:  A service with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, January 7 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Russell J. Snyder, Sr.

Russell J. Snyder, Sr., 57, of Pocono Summit, PA died Sunday, December 30, 2012 in the Pocono Medical Center.

Born: December 7, 1955 in Easton he was a son of the late Richard L. and Eleanor McIntyre Snyder.

Personal: He was a 1974 graduate of Easton High School.

Survivors: Children: Donnell; Russell, Jr.; Rochelle; Laila; all of Easton, Jasmine of Petersburg, VA; brothers: William E. and his wife Joy of Las Vegas; Barry R. and his wife Charlotte of Easton; companion: Lynette Shorter and 7 grandchildren, including Xavier whom he helped raise. He was predeceased by a daughter: Felicia.

Tomas Reyes, 78, of Easton, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Easton Hospital.

Born:  January 10, 1934 in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Justo and Luz Maria Vargas Reyes.

Bernard A. Genua, Sr.

Bernard A. Genua, Sr., 94, of Easton, died Friday, December 28, 2012.

Born:  February 7, 1918 in Easton, he was a son of the late Albert and Jennie (Torcasso) Genua.

Personal:  He was a bookkeeper for R & R Provision, Easton for over 30 years and retired in 1975.  He graduated from Easton High School in 1935 and served in the Army in Europe during WWII.

Survivors:  A daughter, Martha Willis and her husband, Mark of Andover, NJ; two sons, Michael Genua and his wife, Debbie of Perryopolis, PA and Bernard Genua, Jr. of Nazareth; five grandchildren, Cara Willis; Jason Genua and his wife, Marie; Paul Genua and his wife, Erin; Charis Paschette and her husband, Jerry and David Genua and a great granddaughter, Kahlan Genua.

Services:  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

William J. Guffy

William J. Guffy, 87, of Palmer Twp. died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in ManorCare Health Services, Palmer Twp.

Born: January 26, 1925 in Easton he was a son of the late Alexander and Rose Mastria Guffy. He and his wife, the former Alice L. Fratscher have been married for 61 years.

Personal: He graduated from Easton High School in 1943 and the Philadelphia Textile Institute (now Philadelphia University) in 1950. He had been the president and co-owner of Nu-Quaker Dyeing and Finishing in Wilson and prior to that he was the president and secretary of Quaker State Dyeing and Finishing. He served in the Navy on the Destroyer Escort USS James E. Craig during WWII in the Pacific Theater and Philippine Liberation.

Memberships: He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer Twp.; the Century Club; the Green Pond Country Club and life member of Phi Psi Fraternity. An avid golfer he was one of the original members of the Miz’s Rejects golf league.

Survivors: His wife: Alice; 2 sons: William J.R. and his wife Brenda; James C. and his wife Maureen all of Forks Twp.; 2 daughters: Alisa Penn and her husband Robert; Gina Welty and her husband Robert, Jr. all of Palmer Twp.; 2 brothers: Alex S. of Palmer; Charles of Easton; 2 sisters: Rose M. Ruppert of Bath; Lucy Haslam of Richboro; 5 grandchildren: Jenna and Marissa Guffy; Robert Welty, III; Dr. Karen Troxell; Andrew Swavely; great-grandson: Ryder Troxell; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters: Angelina Male; Susan D’Huyvetters and Ann Harrison.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (1/2) in St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton with a calling period from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Bernice Supinski

Bernice Supinski, 85, of Bath died unexpectedly, Thursday, December 27, 2012.

Born: April 9, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, PA she was a daughter of the late Peter and Kathryn Cole Stesney.

Personal: She had been employed by Pioneer Sportswear in Stockertown for several years.

Memberships: She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Bath.

Survivors: Two sons: Gregory and his wife Stephanie of Palmer Twp.; Steven and his wife Noreen of Forks Twp.; a daughter: Kathryn Billmyer and her husband Warren of Hedgesville, W.VA; two sisters: Pamela Hanley of Baltimore, MD; Jo Dale of Harvey’s Lake, PA; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and long-time friend: Lydia Gregory with whom she resided. She was predeceased by her husband: Henry Supinski; granddaughter: Colleen Supinski; siblings: Kathryn Griffis; Carl Stesney and Peter Stesney who also died Dec. 27th.

Services: A Funeral Mass will be held  11 a.m. Friday (1/4) in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 117 Washington St., Bath, PA. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.
