James A. Cope

James A. Cope, 90, of Palmer Township, died Friday, October 4, 2013 in St. Luke’s Hospice House.

Born:  May 3, 1923 in Forks Township, he was a son of the late Charles H. Cope and Ruth (Ryerson) Cope Sandt.

Personal:  He and his wife, the former Shirley M. VanNorman were married 66 years.  He served in the Army during WWII and worked for Lipkins Furniture, Easton and Schaibles Bakery, Wilson Borough.

Memberships:  He was a former member of New Life Christian Centre, Port St. Lucie, FL.

Survivors:  wife, Shirley; two sons, James A. Cope, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Florida and David B. Cope of Palmer Township; a daughter, Deborah M. Pivnicny and her husband, Timothy of California; a sister, Margaret Dulick; two brothers, Francis Sandt and Robert Sandt;  5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  A brother, Charles Cope died earlier.

Services:  1:30 pm Tuesday, October 8 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Call from 12:30 pm until service time Tuesday in the funeral home.

Priscilla G. Robinson

Priscilla G. Robinson

Priscilla G. Robinson, 63, formerly of Easton, died Friday, October 4, 2013 in Valley Manor Nursing Center, Coopersburg.

Born:  October 15, 1949 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Robert P. and June B. “Tex” (Wilson) Reese.

Survivors:  two sons, Curt Robinson of Bethlehem and Heath Robinson of Georgia; three daughters, Heidi Murphy of Easton, Lauren Silli of Norristown, and Victoria Robinson of Coplay; husband, Charles I. Robinson of Coplay; brother, Robert H. Reese; two sisters, Tharon E. Barker Snover and Penny M. Dennis, and five grandchildren.

Services:  10:00 am Wednesday, October 9 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Call from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Tuesday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Forks Cemetery.

Makai James Peters

Makai James Peters, 4, of Easton died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 the result of a fire in his home.

Born: May 14, 2009 in Easton he was a son of Michael Peters and the late Joy Ann Lozier, who also died as a result of the fire.

Survivors: His father; a brother: Gregory Jackson; ½ brother: Malakai Peters; grandmother: Francilia Peters-Barnes; grandfathers: Andre VanValen and Winston Barnes; great-grandmother: Helen Lozier and great-grandfather: Leroy Peters, Sr.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday in the Green Pastures Community Church, 28 North 10th Street, Easton, PA. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Joy Ann Lozier

September 30, 2013

Joy Ann Lozier, 24, of Easton died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 in Lehigh Valley Hospital following a fire in her home.

Born: April 25, 1989 in Easton, she was a daughter of Rickie Lindsey and the late Charlette (Lozier) Eryilmaz.

Personal: A hard working young mother, she had been employed by Dunkin’ Donuts at their Easton and Bethlehem locations and prior to that by the Easton Nursing Center.

Survivors: Her father; a son: Gregory Jackson; brother: Cary Lozier; sisters: Javona Bivins; Fatma Eryilmaz; grandmother: Helen Lozier; companion: Gregory Jackson and many extended family. A son Makai Peters also died as a result of the fire.

Services:  A Memorial Service will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday (Oct. 4) in the Green Pastures Community Church, 28 North 10th Street, Easton, PA. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

James L. Strickland

James L. Strickland, 25, of Wilson Borough died Monday, September 30, 2013 in Easton the result of  a fire.

Born: December 29, 1987 in Easton he was a son of Sarah Jean Werkheiser and the late Dave Strickland.

Personal: He was a stay-at-home dad who loved fishing.

Survivors: His mother; children: James, Jr., Cameron, Josiah and Treasure; brothers: Salaam, Dave and Rashon; grandmother: Helen Lozier; fiance: Nicole Liberti and many extended family. He was predeceased by a son: Elijah.

Henry R. Barlieb

Henry R. Barlieb, 67, of Easton died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in Easton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born: December 22, 1945 he was a son of the late Charles and Mimi (Shook) Barlieb.

Personal: He had been employed by Caesar’s Diner in Wind Gap for many years and at the Truck Stop in New Jersey.

Survivors: His companion of 45 years: Marie Moser.

Services: Will be private;  the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Rose Gertrude DeCesare

September 24, 2013

Rose Gertrude DeCesare, 92, formerly of Palmer Twp., PA died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in the New Eastwood Care Center.

Born: June 10, 1921 in Martins Creek, PA she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Rossi) Plebani.

Personal: She had worked in private home nursing and had been a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer Twp.

Survivors: A daughter: Diana Smith and her husband Richard of Bridgewater, NJ; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas and son Danny.

Services: Will be private; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in ChurchHill Cemetery, Martins Creek, PA.

David M. Edgar

September 20, 2013

David M. Edgar, 89, of Palmer Township, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 in Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem.

Born:  January 18, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Louis M. and Marjorie (Metcalf) Edgar.

Personal:  He and his wife, the former Margaret Holler were married 65 years.  He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater with Patton’s 3rd Army, 95th Infantry Division, Iron Men of Metz and received two Purple Hearts.  He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and was employed at Hercules Cement, SI Handling Systems, and Picatinny Arsenal.

Memberships:  David was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem where he was certified as a First Presbyterian Stephen Minister.  He was also a member of the Palmer Kiwanis, the Republican Club, the PA Society of Professional Engineers, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Survivors:  Sons, Dale Edgar and his wife, Patti of Allentown; Michael Edgar and his wife, Margaret of Nazareth; Ken Edgar and his wife, Vanessa of Walnutport; Charles Edgar and his wife, Joyce of Allentown; and John Edgar and his wife, Kitty of Bethlehem Township; 8 grandchildren, Bryan, Patrick, Michael, Nicole, Mark, Kathryn, Matthew, and Kevin; and 2 great grandchildren.  His sister, Marian Eldridge died earlier.

Services:  2:00 pm Wednesday, September 25 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 7 to 8:30 pm Tuesday in the funeral home.
