Dr. Harold L. Kruse, Jr.

September 2, 2011

Dr. Harold L. Kruse, Jr., of Bloomfield, NJ, formerly of Alburtis, died Friday, September 2, 2011 in Chilton Hospital, Pompton Plains, NJ.

Born: January 7, 1933 in Alburtis, he was a son of the late Harold, Sr. and Carrie Hager Kruse.

Personal: A graduate of Muhlenberg College, he received his PhD from the Stevens Institute of Technology and was an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, NJ for 49 years before retiring.

Survivors: Cousins, and a good friend and colleague, Dr. Paul Russo.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be in Lehigh Zion Cemetery, Alburtis.

Memorial Contributions: may be made to the American Red Cross.

Patrick C. Franco

September 1, 2011

Patrick C. Franco, 89 of Easton died Thursday, September 1, 2011.

Born: March 3, 1922 in Easton he was a son of the late Antonio and Rose Turdo Franco. His wife, the former Jane Achenbach died in 2009.

Personal: He had been employed by Sanco in Phillipsburg and Industrial Engraving in Easton for many years before retiring. He loved to walk and was an avid bowler, gardener and sports fan.

Memberships: He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Easton.

Survivors: 3 daughters: Paula, wife of the late Peter Lombardi of Phillipsburg; Rose Marie, at home; his namesake: Pattee A. of Allentown; brothers: Samuel of Wilson Borough, Joseph of Easton; 16 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased a brother: Placido Iudecello and sister: Anna Nick.

Services: Visitation will be 11 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon in the church, 9th & Lehigh Streets, Easton. Interment will be in Easton Heights Cemetery.

Teresa Eck

August 31, 2011

Teresa Eck, 81, formerly of Easton died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Gracedale.

Born: June 6, 1930 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Cosmo and Antonina Viglianti Picone.

Personal: A graduate of Easton High School and Churchman’s Business School, she had been employed by Easton Hospital for 49 years before retiring in 1994.

Memberships: She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer; the Senior Circle, Red Hat Society and a life member of the Wilson Warriors Band Boosters.

Survivors: son: William and his companion Elisha Kizer, with whom she had resided; daughter: Virginia “Ginny” Varju and her husband Louis of Bath; sisters: Bessie Foster of Easton; Frances Remaly of Avona Heights;  grandchildren: Alyssa Koder and husband David; Jeffrey Varju and fiancé Jessica Kraemer and  great-grandchildren: Rileigh and Braydon. She was predeceased by siblings: Pat Picone and Phyllis Drogo.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6  in the church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton  with a calling period from 10 to 10:30 in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Streets, Easton is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Memorial Contributions: may be made to any charity for animals or the American Cancer Society.

Thomas O. Mason

August 29, 2011

Thomas O. Mason, 54, of Bath died Monday, August 29, 2011 at home.

Born: May 14, 1958 in Easton, he was a son of Mary Louise Rau Morrison of Palmer Twp.  and the late Robert L. Mason. His 24th wedding anniversary to the former Melody George was Aug. 29th.

Personal: he attended Girard College in Philadelphia from 1966 to 1973, where he was a member of their soccer team that traveled to London to participate in an international tournament. He graduated from Easton High School in 1976 and was employed by Exclusive Transportation for Industry for the past 22 years. Prior to that he worked in the construction/home building industry. He was a NASCAR enthusiast as well as avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. Tom always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at his mother and step-father’s cabin in Kresgeville.

Memberships: He was a member of Olivet United Presbyterian Church, Easton and former member of Holy Family Club, Nazareth. An active member and past –president of the Bath Republican Club, he was also an active member of the Bath Fire Co. Social Club.

Survivors: his mother; his wife; children: Travis O. of Bath, Brittany L. of Philadelphia; 4 brothers: his twin: Timothy and his wife Diane of Bath; Christopher and Lee of Palmer Twp.; Jonathan and his wife Lisa of Tamaqua; sister: Susan Wasser of Wilson Borough; step-sister: Diane Buskirk of E. Stroudsburg; 4 nieces and 7 nephews. He was predeceased by his step-father: Lawrence E. Morrison.

Services: memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday in the church, 1151 Northampton St., Easton with a calling period from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Streets, Easton is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be private.

Memorials: may be made to the funeral home for Tom’s children’s education.

 

Giuseppe “Joseph” Panzica

Giuseppe “Joseph” Panzica, 78, of Palmer Twp. died Sunday, August 28, 2011 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg.

Born: February 25, 1933 in Italy he was a son of the late Filippo and Angela Sciascia Panzica.

Personal: he had been employed by the Northampton Country Club for many years before retiring and could often be seen walking around the community.

Memberships: he was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer.

Survivors:  daughter: Angela Sherwood and her husband David with whom he resided; former wife: JoAnn Murray; brother: Michele in Italy; a niece and nephew whom he helped raise: Lillo and Sara Vecchio; his dogs; and other nieces and nephews including: Lina Curto and her husband Frank and family. He was predeceased by a brother: Gaetano and sisters Rosalia Tornabene and Maria Vecchio.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton with a calling period from 9:30 to 10:30 in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Streets, Easton is in charge of arrangements. Interment: Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Donald S. Stackhouse

Donald S. Stackhouse, 92, of Florham Park, NJ formerly of Easton died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at home.

Born: June 27, 1919 in Easton he was a son of the late J. Laurence and Belle Scott Stackhouse. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Brobst, have been married 66 years.

Personal: he attended the Mercersburg Academy and graduated from Easton High School in 1936 receiving his BA from Duke University in 1941. He was a Captain in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was the owner/operator of Star Recruiters in N. Plainfield, NJ for many years before retiring in 1983. Prior to that he was in the financial and corporate management field for companies including J.T. Baker Chemical, Allied Chemical and Richardson-Merrell. In his spare time he enjoyed reading mystery novels, playing cards and day trips to New York City.

Memberships: he was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton and the Old Guard of Plainfield.

Survivors: his wife: Elizabeth; son: Douglas E. of Arvada, CO; brothers: Laurence of St. Louis, MO and William of Easton, PA. He was predeceased by a sister: Helen Bradford.

Services: will be 11 a.m. Friday in the church, 501 Brodhead St., Easton with a calling period from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the church. The Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Streets, Easton is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.

Shirley Ida Volkert

Shirley Ida Volkert, 81, of Palmer Township died Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Easton Hospital.

Born: July 12, 1930 in Bloomsbury, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Foose, Sr. and Beatrice (Steele) Foose Osborn.

Personal: She and her husband, Glenn G. Volkert were married 62 years. She retired from Martin Guitar. She was an avid bingo player and was a member of various social clubs in the Easton area.

Survivors: husband, Glenn; two daughters, Nancy Hutchison and her husband, Gary of Phillipsburg and Glenda Martin of Pen Argyl; a son, Bruce Volkert of Allentown; two brothers, Oscar Foose, Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Palmer Township and Jordan Foose of Nazareth; five sisters, Joan Apgar and her husband, Alan of Harmony Township; Lucille Riehl and her companion, John Scherer of Phillipsburg, Carol Grube and her husband, Jerry of Phillipsburg, Judy Moffo and her husband, George of Lake Wales, FL and Charma Hriczak and her companion, Barry Dornich of Harmony Township; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Four brothers, Ronald, Richard, Barry and Marshall died earlier.

Services: 11:00 am Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 10:00 am until service time on Wednesday.

Margaret S. Glassic

1935 Fred Sr and Jean Ashton

Margaret S. Glassic, 86, of Palmer Township died Saturday, August 20, 2011 in Easton Hospital.

Born: November 14, 1924 in Kearny, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Alexandria (MacDonald) Smack.

Personal: Her husband, S. John Glassic died in 2003. She graduated from Drake Business College and attended the American Institute of Banking. She was Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Research at Lehigh University and retired in 1990.

Memberships: She was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Palmer Township where she served as treasurer and vice-president of St. Andrew’s Women and secretary of Congregation Council.

Survivors: Two daughters, Carol Hamel and her husband, Richard of Anderson, SC and Marion Misero of Northampton; a son, Thomas Glassic of Bailey, CO; a Godson; David Felix of Woodbridge, NJ; a sister, Ruth Niven and her husband, Gerard of Burr Ridge, IL; three grandchildren, Dana, Jacquelyn and Joseph and three great grandchildren.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 3900 Freemansburg Ave., Palmer Township. Interment will be private. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.
