Doris M. Morris

June 26, 2011

Doris M. Morris, 86, formerly of Palmer Township and Wilson Borough died peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2011 in Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA.

Born: July 18, 1924 in Williamstown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Mae Cole and granddaughter of the late James and Esther Shuttleworth.

Personal: Her husband, Ellwood R. Morris, died in 2001. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1942 and later from Churchman Business School.

Memberships: Doris was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilson Borough, and the WCT Club.

Survivors: A son, James D. Morris, and his wife, Mary Anne, of Hampden, Mass.; a daughter, Lynn R. Werner and her husband, William, of Palmer Township; three grandchildren, Jamie, Alex and Brittany and her beloved dog, Wickers.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from noon until service time Thursday in the funeral home.

Judith A. Mengel

June 25, 2011

Judith A. Mengel, 58, of Palmer Township, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 in her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born: September 21, 1952 in Northampton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Ruth Diehl Hartzell.

Personal: She and her husband, Donald W. Mengel, have been married for 34 years. She was a 1970 graduate of Northampton High School, and graduated as a dental hygienist from Northampton Community College. She worked with various dentists in the Lehigh Valley for many years.

Memberships: She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem, where she taught Sunday school for more than 20 years.

Survivors: In addition to her husband Don; son Matthew C. and daughter Katie L., both of Easton; two sisters: Patricia A. Gable of Bath, and Diane L. Schaull of Indiana; mother-in-law Margaret V. Ziegenfus; and sisters-in-law: Nancy Lansing and Cindy Doll.

Services: A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem, with a calling period from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton.

Interment will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton.

Richard C. Kessler

June 23, 2011

Richard C. Kessler, 82, of Wilson Borough, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Easton Hospital.

Born: May 5, 1929 in Easton, he was a son of the late Thomas and Edna Young Kessler.

Personal: His wife, the former Nancy Case, died in April. He had been employed by the Dixie Cup/James River Corp. for 40 years before retiring in 1991. Richard was the president of Wilson High School class of 1947 and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He also spent many enjoyable hours woodworking.

Memberships: An active member of St. John s Lutheran Church, Easton; he was a past president of Council, Sunday school teacher for 40 years and in their choir for 60 years. He had also been a member of the Experimental Aviation Association.

Survivors: A son Karl T. of Broadview Heights, Ohio; a daughter Kathryn E. of Wilson Borough; and two grandsons: Cameron and Christian. He was predeceased by siblings: Walter, Lester, Edward, Ada Purdy, Arlene Nolf, Pauline LaRose and Jean Marsteller.

Services: Will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Streets, Easton with a calling period from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine. Memorials: may be made to St. John s Lutheran Church, 330 Ferry Street, Easton, PA 18042 or American Heart Association.

Lillian R. Schocker

Lillian R. Schocker, 91, of Easton died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in Country Meadows, Bethlehem Township.

Born: September 5, 1919 in Manhattan, she was a daughter of the late Max and Sadie Goltz Mark.

Personal: Her husband, Paul Schocker died in 2007. She was a social worker for Northampton County.

Memberships: Lillian was a member of B nai Abraham Synagogue, Wilson Borough.

Survivors: Three sons, Gary Schocker and his partner, Richard Norton, David Schocker and Edward Kurlansik; a son-in-law, Sheldon Wecker and five grandchildren, Robert Wecker, Jonathan Wecker, Aaron Kurlansik, Nathan Kurlansik and Rafi Kurlansik. Her daughter, Laurel Kurlansik Wecker, her grandson, Noah Kurlansik and her brothers, Alton Mark and Sam Mark died earlier.

Services: Services were held on Tuesday, June 21 with interment in B nai Abraham Cemetery, Forks Township. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton handled the arrangements.

Mary Ellen George

Mary Ellen George, 78, of Palmer Twp., PA, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in St. Luke’s Hospital.

Born: September 16, 1932 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Mary Shaneberger George.

Personal: A 1950 graduate of Wilson High School, she had been employed by AT&T for 33 years before retiring in 1994. Prior to that she worked for Magnetic Winding for 11 years. Memberships: She attended the Promised Land Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors: brothers, Isaac, Jr. of Everett, WA, Robert of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Shirley Somogyi of Alpha, NJ, Elsie Cope of Bethlehem, Gloria Lutz of Easton; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Marvin, Mason, Betty Brotzman, Naomi Hartzell and Lois Gilio.

Services: Noon, Friday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton, with a calling period from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

 

Luong Minh Nguyen

June 20, 2011

Luong Minh Nguyen, 54, of Easton, died Monday, June 20, 2011 in the VNA Hospice of St. Luke’s.

Survivors: His wife Kim; three sons: Peter, Vincent and John; and a daughter Cecelia.

Services: were held Saturday. The Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Streets, Easton was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Holy Saviour Cemetery.

Geraldine E. B. Jopling

Geraldine E. B. Jopling, 81, of Bethlehem Twp., PA died Monday, June 13, 2011 in ManorCare Health Services, Old Orchard.

Born: July 1, 1929 in Bethlehem she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude LaSchober Biro.

Personal: Her husband Rodney B. Jopling died in 1966. She was a graduate of Easton High School and Churchman Business College.

Memberships: She was a member of Faith Community Assembly of God, Palmer.

Survivors: daughter, Jeri Spaziani of Nazareth; two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband and a brother, Joseph Biro.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011 in the Church, 3000 Freemansburg Ave., Easton. The Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton is in charge of arrangements.

James H. “Pap” Laros, Jr.

June 13, 2011

James H. Pap Laros, Jr., 78, of Easton, died Monday, June 13, 2011 in Easton Hospital.

Born: November 30, 1932 in Easton, he was a son of the late J. Howard and Sallie M. Seager Laros.

Personal: He and his wife, the former Beverly R. Lynn were married 55 years. He graduated from Easton High School in 1950 and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a mechanic/truck driver for various companies in the Lehigh Valley, most recently for Continental Express, Allentown and Banko Beverage, Bethlehem.

Survivors: wife, Beverly; daughter, Sally Jo E. Pulcini and her husband, Roger of Forks Township; a son, James H. Laros, III and his wife, Janet of Albuquerque, NM; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Amy, Nicolette and Christina; and a niece, Linda. His sister, Geraldine Hoadley died earlier.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday in the funeral home. Interment with military honors in Wind Gap Cemetery. Memorials: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
