John “J. R.” Wilson, Jr.

John “J. R.” Wilson, Jr., 83, of Easton, died Friday, March 2, 2012 in his home.

Born: October 13, 1928 in Easton, he was a son of the late John, Sr. and Beatrice (Kohler) Wilson.

Personal: He was a printer for Hargro Packaging, Flemington, NJ for over 38 years and retired in 1993.  He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a property owner at Lake Adventure Camp Resort, Lords Valley.

Memberships: He was a member of the former Easton Mennonite Church and a member of the Steel City Mennonite Church.  J.R. was a bowler in several leagues including Town and Country Lanes.

Survivors: Wife, Ethel B. (Dile) Wilson; daughter, Neely Rose and her husband, Cliff, Jr. of Easton; three sons, Robert “Billy” Shupe, Jr. and his wife, Korri of Montana, Ronnie Wilson of Easton and Wayne Wilson of Easton; seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He and his wife also helped to raise several other children as adoptive parents.

Services: A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 – 8:00 pm on Saturday, March 10 at the American Legion, Brown & Lynch Post #9, 2260 Corriere Dr., Palmer Township.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Willie James Johnson

Willie James Johnson, 82, of Bethlehem died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Manor Care Health Services, Bethlehem.

Personal: Born January 25, 1930 he had been employed by the Hunterdon Developmental Center and Victaulic Co. for several years. He also served in the Army during the Korean War.

Survivors: Among his survivors are step-children: Anna Holmes, Beverly Fraites; David Alleyne; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen in 2005.

Services: Will be private; the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton St., Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Katherine Boni

February 25, 2012

Katherine Boni, 97, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Country Meadows.

Born: July 2, 1914 in Keystone, PA, she was a daughter of the late Remildo and Domenica Antonini.

Personal: Her husband, Leonardo Boni died in 2002.  She was a longtime volunteer for the Greater Wilkes-Barre Association for the Blind and the SPCA, Wilkes-Barre.

Memberships: Katherine was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Survivors: A Daughter, Beverly D’Angelo and her husband, Thomas of Palmer Township; a sister, Pasquina Bartholomei of Old Forge, PA; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A daughter, Sandra Kollevoll died in 1998.

Services:  10:30 am Thursday in St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Palmer Township. Interment in Forks Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Gust Balakas

Gust Balakas, 88, of Forks Township, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in his home.

Born: November 8, 1923 in Shenandoah, PA, he was a son of the late William and Katina Balaskas.

Personal: Gust was a master plumber and worked for ARA Corp., Bethlehem and Newark.  He also worked for Landy Laundry Service, Bethlehem.  He attended Georgetown University and was an engineer in the Army during WWII.

Memberships: He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wilson Borough.

Survivors: wife, Demetra Balakas; a son, William Balaskas and his wife, Corinne of Mt. Bethel; a daughter, Anastasia Balaskas Herda and her husband, Brian of Easton; two brothers, Nicholas Balaskas of Palmer Township and John Balaskas of King of Prussia; two sisters, Georgia Balaskas of Palmer Township and Jean Karaliotis of Palmer Township and two grandchildren, Connor and Morgan. A brother, James Balaskas died earlier.

Services: 11:00 am Monday in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 319 S. 20th St., Wilson Borough.  Call from 6 – 7:30 pm Sunday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment in Easton Cemetery with military honors.

William A. Palmer

William A. Palmer, 66, formerly of Easton died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in St. Joseph s Hospital, Reading.

Born: May 27, 1945 in San Diego, CA he was a son of the late Paul and Harriet Stackhouse Palmer.

Personal: He and his wife, the former Maria Velasco have been married for 45 years. He was a 1963 graduate of Easton High School and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the automotive business.

Memberships: He was a member of the American Legion in Homestead, FL

Survivors: His wife, Maria; daughters, Lisa Capera of Homestead, FL, Marylynn Moyer of Mohnton, PA; sister, Maryann Short and four grandchildren.

Services: Graveside 1:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 24) at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Rd., Easton; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Joan A. McIntyre

February 21, 2012

Joan A. McIntyre, 77, of Palmer Twp. died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Easton Hospital.

Born: February 24, 1934 in Bridgeport, CT she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ruth Mullins Mulford.

Personal: She and her husband Russell W., Sr. would have been married 55 years in May.

Memberships: She was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Palmer Twp. and Wilson High School Class of 1952.

Survivors: Her husband Russell; children: Cynthia; Russell, Jr. and his wife Sherri all of Palmer Twp.; Ronald and his wife Amy of Pen Argyl; siblings: Jerry Mulford in Florida; Janet Velenia of Nazareth; 4 grandchildren: Brittany; Jennie; Jordan and Kellee; and great-grandson: Connor.

Services: 10 AM Saturday (Feb. 25) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with a calling period from 6 to 8 PM Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Carlos Enrique “Tito” Lozada, Sr.

Carlos Enrique “Tito” Lozada, Sr., 57, of Wilson Borough died Saturday, February 18, 2012 in Easton Hospital.

Born: July 6, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of Jose Lozada of Florida and the late Arcadia (Pillot) Lozada.

Personal: He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Cruz were together for 39 years.  Carlos was a carpenter in the Easton area and was a volunteer for Safe Harbor, Easton and Hogar Crea, Bethlehem.

Memberships: He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, Palmer Township, the YR Club, Easton and the Easton Moose Lodge.

Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth; father, Jose; twin sons, Carlos Lozada, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Wilson Borough and Jose Lozada of Bethlehem; three brothers, Eric Lozada of Easton, Jose Lozada of New York City and Joseph Lozada of Connecticut; three sisters, Carmen Luz of New York City, Lisa Lozada of Florida and Vilma Lozada of Florida and six grandchildren.

Services: There will be a visitation from 3 – 4:30 pm on Tuesday (Feb. 21) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

Jose J. Gonzalez, 52, formerly of Easton, died Saturday, February 18, 2012.

Born: February 2, 1960 in Puerto Rico, he was a son of Gloria Colon and the late Jose Gonzalez.

Survivors: mother, Gloria; wife, Kathy (Hoyt) Gonzalez; daughters, Natacha, Amber and Tara Gonzalez and Marisa Parry; one brother, two sisters and three grandchildren.

Services: 10:00 am Thursday in Our Lady of Mercy, St. Bernard’s Oratory, 132 S. Fifth St., Easton. Interment in Hays Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements
