Lois M. Bohn

July 12, 2021

Lois M. Bohn, 88, of Effort, formerly of Wilson Borough, died Monday, July 12, 2021 in her home. Born February 11, 1933 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Albert S. and Wilna M. (Schweitzer) Nagle. Her husband, Karl E. Bohn died in 1969.
Lois graduated from Easton High School in 1950 and was an insurance agent for Eck Kellow and Co., Easton for over 25 years until retiring in 1998. She was a member of the former St. Mark’s UCC, Easton, a member of New Creation UCC, Palmer Township, and a member of the Ambassador’s Club.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas A. Bohn and Terry E. Bohn; a daughter, Susan L Jansen and her husband, Eric; and two grandchildren, Amanda Bohn and Brian Jansen.

Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, July 16, 2021 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Friday in the funeral home. Elizabeth J. “Liz” Urban

Elizabeth “Liz” J. Urban, 68, of Easton, PA, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Health Network at Muhlenburg after a courageous battle with cancer. Liz was born January 24, 1953 in Wilmington, DE and was the daughter of the late Donald Joseph and is survived by her mother Carolyn Johanssen Joseph of Kirkwood, MO. She isalso survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Ed Urban; her sisters Karen Robards of St. Louis, MO and Kristine Lebras of Arlington, VA; brother-in-law’s Michael O’Neal and Paul Lebras; her sister- in-law Kathleen Urban of Warminster, PA and two nieces and a nephew.

Liz spent her formative years in West Chester, PA, where she was a championship horsewoman. She enjoyed musical theatre and starred in the Henderson High production of My Fair Lady and performed in summer stock theatre. Liz continued to sing with various semi-professional choral groups while she attended George Washington University. While at GWU, she obtained a business degree and held various leadership positions in Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

In 2011, Liz retired from a highly successful 31-year career with Merck Pharmaceuticals where her last role was managing development of new products. Since retiring, Liz enjoyed gardening and attending Jazzercise classes. She continued her lifelong love of music and theatre by performing as a member of the Northampton Community College Choir. She often said that one of her most rewarding roles was volunteering as a judge for the local Freddy Awards. In addition, Liz was an avid supporter and attendee of the annual Devon Horse Shows. She also enjoyed attending the IMSA auto races.

Liz’s optimism, sense of humor and empathy will be missed by the many people who knew and loved her. A service celebrating her extraordinary life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com

Elizabeth P. “Betty” Jones

Elizabeth "Betty" Jones

Elizabeth “Betty” P. Jones, 90, of Nazareth, PA, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, PA. Born June 11, 1931 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Thorvald and Frances (Fitz) Pedersen. She was a 1954 graduate of Glassboro State Teacher’s College and earned her Master’s Degree from Columbia University. She taught for a year at a grade school, then returned to GSTC as professor of psychology for 3 years, pursuing her Ph.D. at Temple University while teaching at GSTC. She married William (“Bill”) Jones, and taught psychology at Rutgers University for a year.

Betty and Bill lived in Easton and Pen Argyl before moving to Moravian Hall Square in Nazareth. Betty’s friendly nature and positive energy made her a favorite in the community. She loved her family, both here and in Denmark, and enjoyed writing letters and emails to keep in touch. She enjoyed traveling, from her first trip to Europe in 1959, to many camping trips out west with her family, to a Mediterranean cruise along the southern European coast with Bill in 2018. Betty loved playing the piano and singing. She enjoyed gardening and the beauty of nature. She also loved our country and all that it represents.

Betty is survived by her husband, William, daughters Elizabeth (“Liz”) Silver of Averill Park, NY and Kathleen Jones of Rifton, NY, as well as her two grandchildren, Timothy Silver and Caroline Silver Gibson. Betty is also survived by her niece, Carol Ketschek, who was more like a sister to her, and by Carol’s children and grandchildren. Betty was a light in the lives of many people and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, July 24 at Moravian Hall Square, Kortz Hall, 175 W. North St., Nazareth. Interment was private at a family burial plot in English Creek, NJ. John V. Moyer

July 7, 2021

John V. Moyer, 58, of Bath, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Born May 5, 1963 in Wilson Borough, he was a son of the late Vernon and Pearl (Haas) Moyer. He graduated from Easton Area High School in 1981 and was a landscaper in the Northampton County area. John was a member of the Order of Fleas and Avona Volunteer Fire Company and was an avid hunter, fisherman and Phillies fan.

Surviving are a daughter, Nikki Moyer; a son, John Moyer; a step-daughter, Mindy Ray; and his twin brother, James Moyer. His twin sisters, Sharon Moyer and Karen Maehrer died earlier.

Services will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Offer online condolences at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com.

Paula E. Unangst

Paula Unangst

Paula E. Unangst, 81, of Wilson Borough, PA died Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at St. Lukes’ Hospital, Anderson Campus. Born May 31, 1940, in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Paul and Jessie (Smith) Felker and a graduate of Easton High School Class of 1958. Paula had been employed by the Smiley Candy Co., the 25th St. Gulf station and in the office of Northampton County Domestic Relations before retiring in 1997. She was a member of Green Pond UM Church, Easton and the Mother’s Club at the former First UM Church, Easton. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Easton Chapter and early member and volunteer at the Suburban Rescue Squad.

She is survived by her son: Michael P. Unangst (wife Beth) of Wilson Borough; sister: Sylvia Patino of Easton; and 2 grandchildren: Kiana and Jayden Unangst. Her husband: Theodore G. Unangst died in 2010 and her son: Christopher D. Unangst died in 2008.

A Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, July 1 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with a graveside service 10:30 AM Friday (July 2) in Middle Creek Cemetery, Kresgeville, PA.

Kenrick D. Patterson

Kenrick Patterson

Kenrick D. Patterson, 47, formerly of Easton, PA died June 29, 2021, at his home in Philadelphia. Born September 28, 1973, in Brooklyn, NY he was a son of the late Carlyle and Laura (Cantrel) Patterson. He was a graduate of Wilson High School where he played football. He loved selling cars and was employed by 1 Owner Car. He also loved sports and time with his children.

He is survived by his children: Boss and Baylee, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. 4 brothers died earlier. A graveside service will be held 1 PM Thursday (July 15) at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3300 William Penn Hwy., Easton. Family and friends may gather at the gravesite from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.

Marlou (Marguerite Louise) Belyea

Marlou Belyea

Marlou (Marguerite Louise) Belyea died Sunday, June 27, 2021. She was born in the California desert, the daughter of Allan Rau and Louise LaRue, pioneer homesteaders on the Coachella Valley with a date ranch and farm, on September 11, 1926. They lived at least a mile from her nearest neighbors. Her brother, Allan, and her sister, Caroline, were her playmates with their ponies. They played horse tag between the cactus and mesquite. Pioneering neighbors, Dickie and Eddie Elliot set up a tent school calling it Desert Sun. Desert Sun would move from the desert floor to the cool mountains above. Her parents got a cabin nearby in Idyllwild and would truck the ponies up. Poor farmers paid the tuition in vegetables and chores, and Marlou contributed by tutoring the younger students.

Marlou met her husband, Robert Belyea, in Idyllwild while he was on leave from CalTech’s Navy program. She would go to public high school in the Coachella Valley, but the Elliots got her a full scholarship at a private school, Girls Collegiate, in Pomona. She then went to college there at Scripps College. Her protective mother moved the family to a rental home in Pomona. Her younger brother would go on to Stanford and her sister followed him there. Right after her graduation, she and Bob Belyea married. They moved east so he could work as electrical engineer in the family business, Belyea Electric Company where he rose to become its president for 60 years. For 45 of those years they lived on an old Dutch farm in Pompton Plains, N.J. where she and her youngest daughter, Carolyn Belyea, raised and trained Arabian horses. She would bring two of those horses with her when they moved to Easton, PA. where Bob opened up new operations for the Belyea company.

Bob and Marlou were excellent tennis players, swimmers and horseback riders. They loved swing dancing and could put on a show well into their 80s. Book clubs and bridge clubs filled out their social life. Bob died in 2011. Marlou vigorously volunteered in Pompton Plains and Easton. In both towns she was president and active member of the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women. In Easton, she volunteered at the Northampton County Historical Society as docent and gave papers at the Fortnightly Club. She worked on various causes such as senior citizens’ housing and women’s rights, supporting the first woman to run for Governor of N.J. and becoming her aide. Marlou was the first woman to be elected to the Pompton Plains town council and the first female mayor. In Easton, she nominated herself to the Northampton Democratic committee and won. After that she got hundreds of votes to stay on the Committee and continued her work for women candidates and rights. She worked to get a Public Health Department for the County.

Marlou is survived by two of her children, Carolyn Zecherle, of Novato, CA and Marlou Belyea Taylor of Berkeley, CA. A third daughter, Wendy Belyea Coombs, died of ALS in 2010. Wendy’s daughter, Toke Nicole, survives with three children, Ravenne Ongpauco, and Vienna and Sophie Hockabout and stepson, Nick Ongpauco. Wendy also had two stepchildren, Alexis and Adrian Coombs, and Adrian has a daughter, Aliyah. All survive. Her daughter Marlou Taylor had two children, Danielle and James Taylor. Her daughter Carolyn has one daughter, Alicia Zecherle.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10 at 2 pm at the Belyea home, 1253 Firethorne Dr., Easton with a time to greet the family from 1 to 2 pm.  Offer online condolences at www. Bertha Louise Eyler

Bertha Louise Eyler, 93, formerly of Easton, died Friday, June 25, 2021 in Moravian Hall Square. Born December 3, 1927 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Magdalena (Stoepplewerth) Eyler. She was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church and was an active community volunteer.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Van Arman  and her husband, John, and Laura Kaziunas and her husband, Alfred; a son, Douglas Stemet and his wife, Denita; eight granddaughters; and five great grandchildren. Her son, John Stemet and her grandson, Eric Van Arman died earlier.
