Ray was a good guy. I grew up next door to his Mom and Dad on Porter Street in Easton (Doc and Lillian Howe) and was over there all the time when I was young. Ray was very kind to me and my brother Mark. He employed us to help with clerical duties for work and for his community service initiatives. I remember that Ray enjoyed coming over to our house to sit at the dining room table to hear the stories that my Uncle Larry was so good at telling-lots and lots of laughs.

Truly a gentleman. I will miss him so much. He was so devoted to his friends, his mother, and the party. Much like others taught me the math of politics, he taught me the personal aspect of politics. I will always remember the way he encouraged me to express my views to officials, even though I was only 18 at the time.

A returned 2012 Christmas card made me fear for the worst, and that proved to be the case. Ray was a fraternity brother, and I helped him out when he had some financial problems. One of the best things that he ever did for me was to take me to the El Parador Restaurant in NYC in 1967. I have been going there ever since with family and numerous friends. I will offer a toast in his memeory in the spring when fraternity brothers gather there for our semi-annual dinner.

Ray Howe was a cousin and a friend. I met Ray when I started my genealogy search of his father’s father, David Newton Howe. Ray and I would exchange letters and cards and on three occasions met in Bowling Green, Ohio, to talk about the Howe family. My last letter was just returned today; I was so hoping to get one last chance to meet with Ray. He will be missed but not forgotten.

RIP Ray from your Zimbabwean friend. Such kindness shown by your Mom Lilian and you to my family when they visited USA. You were a wonderful mentor during my 1970 Rotary year in East Stroudsburg and the times I visited you in later years in USA. We grieved through 9/11 together. Such a pity you never managed to visit Africa.. Tom Gpddard
