    Dear Tricia and Greg,
I am so sorry to learn of your Dads passing, needless to say how much we cared for your Dad and Mom. We had a great childhood growing up and that’s due in large part because we were next door neighbors for over twenty years. I will always remember that it was your Dad that picked me up at the Airport when my Dad died and made it a lot easier for me. We love you guys, be strong and we will see you very soon. Love John, Jane, Anne and Mary, XXOO

    Dear Tricia and Greg,
My words can not begin to express the sorrow I feel for you and your family at this time of loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dad. I guess it seems appropriate that it was during basketball playoffs….it was the time he always shined the brightest. He had an impact on many lives as an educator and coach, mine included. I do feel like a piece of me has been taken away with his loss but I do know I am a better person because of him as well.
    May he rest in peace.

    Dear Tricia and Greg,
Your father was an inspiration to me. My life’s path as an educator and coach can be traced back to his mentorship. Most people don’t know that he took me on my college visits after the 71-72 season; quite a sacrifice for Stan and his family. He touched many individuals and families in similar ways and we are all better people because of him. In this time of loss my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

    Dear Folks,

I never had the privilege of playing for Coach Stan … but was a student at EAHS during the great basketball seasons of 1971-172 and 1972-1973.

To this day, I have many fond memories of attending games at the 25th Street Gym and in places like Martz Hall in Pottsville and the Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg. It was a great time and Coach Stan was largely responsible for them.

May he rest in Eternal Peace for all eternity.

    With My Sympathy,

    Dear Greg and Tricia,

My deepest sympathies to you on the passing of your father. I’ll always remember how welcome he and your mother made me feel when, as kids, we all got together at your home for parties, TV, pong or just to hang out. He was a great role model and I’ll forever be grateful to him for setting me in the right direction education-wise by introducing me to the great folks at Wyoming Seminary. It was a life changer for me. He was that kind of guy, as the many testimonials on this and other sites have shown.

    With my sincerest condolences,

    Steve Boyer

Stan was a friend of mine. We ran into each other at many Basketball games that I broadcast on both Radio and TV. It was always good to see him, and we frequently discussed “the old days”, where our friendship began. I admired Stan as a Coach and a man, and I will remember him fondly. My condolences to the Sutphen family.

Greg and the entire Sutphen Family:

My deepest sympathies on the passing of Coach Sutphen. I had the great pleasure of donning the Red Rover basketball uniform for Mr. Sutphen on the ’75/’76 and ’76/’77 squads. Greg, as your classmate and teammate, we were members of the infamous ’76/’77 “Mowery Midgets” who, although were “vertically challenged”, played your Dad’s hardnosed defense and ran the weave against our opponents in the old East Penn League. Those were great days at the 25th Street gym and I treasure the memories of Coach Sutphen.

You have my deepest condolences and my thoughts and prayers are with your and your family. Rest in Eternal Peace, Coach.

Mr. Sutphen was my high school English teacher in 1968. He was a fun teacher and I still have fond memories of his class. I was shy but he tried hard to make speaking in class comfortable for everyone. I always remembered that. Also my girlfriends and I thought he was so cute. 🙂
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I know he will be missed by many.

Being a graduate from the class of 1972 from Easton High School, I have fond memories of the 71-72 season. It was a special and exciting time for all of us. Having Mr. Sutphen for a teacher was also special and many times a lot of fun. I was reminded of the impact that he left on so many when attending his memorial service. Though he was a tremendous coach who had such a great and positive influence on his players, he also reached out to many other students. He will be missed but will always be remembered through those he touched. My sincere condolences to Greg and Tricia…a special coach..teacher…and father. Thank you for sharing him with us.

My sincere condolences to the entire Sutphen family. I will always remember Stan as a fellow coach with a great competitive spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was certainly a lot more than a terrific coach. He was a man who loved and respected his school and the community of which he was such an integral part. He will be missed.
