Elizabeth Stokes was an unforgettable person in so many ways. I will always remember her formidable intelligence, her complex and interesting emotional range, the breadth and depth of her curiosity, her idiosyncratic wit, and her insistent energy. All of this was contained in a generous sociability and, of course, accompanied by her truly remarkable musical gifts!
Knowing Elizabeth Stokes always presented me with surprises! Her remarkable memory for the life she shared with her siblings was a delight to share. And her deep love and constant active concern for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was ever expressed. It was always evident that family was the soul center of her existence.
It was an honor as well as a pleasure to have known Elizabeth.
With affection and gratitude,
