Alan R. Shimer

Alan R. Shimer, 82, of Wilson Borough, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in his home.

His wife, Barbara J. (Rhymer) Shimer, died in 2011.

Born August, 9, 1933 in Wilson Borough, he was a son of the late Arthur C. and Dora A. (Uhler) Shimer.

Alan graduated from Wilson High School in 1951 and served in the Navy during the Korean War.  He was a school bus driver for Easton Area School District for over 10 years.  Prior to that he worked for Maier’s Bakery, Wilson Borough.  He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilson Borough where he was the Sexton and served on Church Council.

Surviving are two daughters, Lynda A. Baker and her husband, Roger of Wilson Borough and Susan E. Limeberry and her husband, Craig of Forks Township; a son, David A. Shimer and his wife, Karen of Nazareth; seven grandchildren, Ed Griffin, Rebecca Griffin, Craig Limeberry, Jr., Tyler Limeberry, Brooke Limeberry, Alan Shimer and Lauren Pysher; and two great grandchildren, Bryce and Quinn.  His brother, Donald Shimer died earlier.  Alan also loved all of his dogs.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2016 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2115 Washington Blvd., Wilson Borough.  A visitation will be held from 7 – 8:30 pm on Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment with Military Honors will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Sidney G. Leibensperger

Sidney G. Leibensperger, 72, of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 in St. Luke’s Warren Hospital.

Born May 23, 1943 in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Lyman and Kathryn (Moffit) Leibensperger.

He and his wife, Nancy (Faur) Leibensperger were married 51 years.  He worked at Ingersoll Rand, Phillipsburg for many years and was an avid golfer and bowler.

Surviving with his wife, Nancy, are his daughter, Shelley Seip of Easton, two grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  A visitation will be held from 6 – 7:30 pm on Wednesday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.  Offer online condolences at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com.

Marie Zdonowski

March 12, 2016

Marie Zdonowski, 93, formerly of Lakewood,  NJ died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Gracedale Nursing Home. Born August 20, 1922 in New York City, NY she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Julia (DeLuca) Feula. Her husband Edward Zdonowski died in 1992.

She is survived by two daughters: Doreen Zdonowski of Forks Twp., PA and Kathleen Zdonowski of Stockertown, PA; a granddaughter: Kelly Keegan and 3 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and siblings: Gerald, Minnie and Josephine.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Friday (March 18) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA.

Walter E. Primrose, Sr.

Walter E. Primrose, Sr., 90, formerly of Lower Saucon Township, died Friday, March 11, 2016 in ManorCare, Palmer Township.

Born February 8, 1926 in Easton, he was a son of the late Pettet and Helen (Frace) Primrose.  His wife, Pauline (Rissmiller) Primrose died in 2009.

Walter was a delivery man for A & B Supply Co., Easton for over 20 years until retiring.

He was a member of Hellertown Assembly of God.

Surviving are two sons, Walter “Chip” Primrose, Jr. of Kutztown and Jeffery Primrose of Catasauqua; a daughter, Paulette Yenca of Center Valley; 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Margaret “Marge” “Penny” Feeley

Margaret “Marge” “Penny” Feeley, 91, of Bethlehem Township, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Fellowship Community, Whitehall.

Born April 2, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Cipriano and Philomena (Lombardozzi) Zoccola.

Her husband, Francis W. “Pat” Feeley died in 1974.  Marge worked for Chrin Brothers, Inc., for 22 years and retired in 1989.  She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.

Surviving are two daughters, Shelley Feeley and her husband, Gerry McNabb of Lower Macungie and Maryann DePaul and her husband, Ernest of Bath; two sons, Attorney Dennis Feeley and his wife, Deane of Saucon Valley and Brian Feeley and his wife, Natalie of Bethlehem Township; a sister, Agnes Rounsaville; eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Her sister, Mary Miller and her brothers, Jim and Frank Zoccola died earlier.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 3219 Santee Rd., Bethlehem Township.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Bernice F. Merbaum

Bernice Freda Merbaum, 92, of Easton, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in her home.

Born December 23, 1923 in Reading, PA, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Belle (Werner) Goldman.  Her husband, Simon Merbaum died in 2011 after 59 years of marriage.

She was a graduate of Wilson High School.  She attended Penn State where she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority.  She transferred to Temple University School of Medicine where she received a BS in Medical Technology in 1945.  She worked in Chicago at Mt. Sinai in research and then at Cornell University in pediatric medicine.  She also worked at Mary Immaculate in Queens.  After moving to Easton, she worked in the medical lab at Warren Hospital for over 20 years until retiring.

She was a member of B’nai Abraham Synagogue, Wilson Borough and its Sisterhood and was a life member of Hadassah.  She was a Girl Scout and Girl Reserve.  She was a volunteer at the Weller Health Center, the Fourth Street Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.  She was also a volunteer at Del Webb Hospital in Arizona and the Maricopa Food Bank.  She was a member of the League of Women Voters, ASCP, URW, the Easton Hospital Senior Circle and AAUW.  She enjoyed bowling, basketball, softball and swimming.

Surviving are a son, Alan Merbaum and his wife, Lilianne of Virginia; a daughter, Judithann Borger of Bethlehem; a sister, Elaine Rosenberg of Florida; two grandchildren, Bianca and Anton Merbaum; two sisters-in-law, Toby Maiman of Arizona and Selma Merbaum of Georgia and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in B’nai Abraham Synagogue, Wilson Borough.  Interment will be in B’nai Abraham Cemetery, Forks Township.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Margaret I. Fisher

Margaret I. Fisher, 98 of Forks Twp., PA died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Gracedale. Born October 10, 1917 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Conklin.

She was a lifelong member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church, now Green Pond UM in Easton and had worked in the candy stand at the old State Movie Theatre years ago. She was also a foster parent to many.

She is survived by her children: Leon Fisher and his wife Sharon of Forks Twp., PA; Robin Featherman and his wife Michelle of Forks Twp., PA; Lloyd Featherman and his fiancé Louise of Palmer Tpw., PA; Ronald Weidman and his wife Donna of Wilson Borough, PA; Jeanette Wilson in Arizona; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Jasper L. Fisher in 1986; and daughters: Marjorie Granda and Joyce Opdyke.

Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday (Mar. 8) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with visitation 6 to 7:30 PM Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 AM Tuesday. Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Willia M. Scott

Willia M. Scott, 93, of Easton, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in ManorCare, Old Orchard.

Born May 27, 1922 in Excelsior, WV, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Naomi (Vogel) Campbell.  Her husband, Percival Scott died in 2005.

Surviving are her daughters, Melvina Hairston of Beckley, WV, Sandra Williams-Wynn of Beaufort, SC, and Donna Fuller of Easton; 6 grandchildren, Michelle Risner, Melvin Mickey, Myles Johnson, Nicole Williams, Raven Williams, and Latifa Sciscoe; and 7 great grandchildren.
