Suzanne L. Slack Melton

Suzanne L. Slack Melton, 72, of Palmer Twp., PA died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at home. Born September 3, 1943 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Francis J. and Hazel M. (Transue) Stone.  She had been employed by the Bethlehem Twp., NJ School District for many years and was a member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, Palmer Twp.

She is survived by three sons: Kenneth D. Slack and his wife Dee of Phillipsburg, NJ; Kevin D. Slack and his fiance Kelly Michlovsky of Bethlehem, PA; Kirk D. Slack and his wife Jean of Kunkletown, PA; a sister: Alice Koyt of Easton and 8 grandchildren: Nathan Slack, Erin Slack, Shane Slack, Brooke Slack; Justin Slack, Benjamin Slack; Kyle Slack, Katelyn Slack. She was predeceased by her brother: James J. Stone in 2002.

Services are private; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Barbara I. Scheer

Barbara I. Scheer, 84, formerly of Annandale, NJ, died Sunday, February 28, 2016 in Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth.

Born July 2, 1931 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Billie (Simpson) Irwine.  Her husband, Jules Scheer died in 2001.

Barbara taught reading and language arts in the Somerville Public Schools for 30 years.  She was a graduate of Wilson College and received a Masters of Education degree from Temple University.  She was the president of the International Reading Association, Central New Jersey Council, was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton and was a former elder at Clinton Presbyterian Church.

Surviving is her brother, Robert L. Irwine of San Antonio, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Kortz Hall at Moravian Hall Square, 175 W. North St., Nazareth.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Charles E. “Ed” Teeter, Jr.

Charles E. “Ed” Teeter, Jr., 50 of Easton, PA died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Hunterdon Medical Center. Born July 12, 1965 in Flemington, NJ he was a son of Linda (Evans) Collins of Florida and Charles Teeter, Sr. and his wife Eve of Easton. He worked in construction and attended the Phillipsburg Alliance Church.

He is survived by his parents; children: Theodore, Kayla and Destiny; step-sisters: Barbara and Lynda; granddaughter: Alyah; a caring cousin: Robyn; and lifetime friends: Brian and Mary, Lennie and Jess.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 19 at the Phillipsburg Alliance Church, 255 Lincoln St., Phillipsburg, NJ.

Harold E. Fichtel

Harold E. Fichtel, 70, of Easton, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Easton Nursing Center.

Born July 21, 1945 in Easton, he was a son of the late Clifford E. Fichtel and Frances V. (Fogel) Fichtel Martin.

Harold worked at Lafayette College, St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Hotel Hampton and various restaurants in the Easton area.  He graduated from West Morris Regional High School, Chester, NJ and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are a sister, Judith Duane of Martins Creek; two brothers, Harry Martin, Jr. of Bath and Charles Martin of Hackettstown, NJ; and a step-sister, Elsie Cromonic of Henderson, NV.  His step-father, Harry Martin, Sr. and his brother, Richard Fichtel died earlier.

Lillian Mermin Feinsilver

Lillian Mermin Feinsilver

Lillian Mermin Feinsilver, 98 of Easton, PA died Monday, February 22, 2016 at Easton Hospital. Born October 15, 1917 in New Haven, CT she was the ninth of Charles and Nechame (Rosenquait) Mermin’s ten children, and had been the sole surviving sibling. Her husband, Rabbi Alexander Feinsilver, D.D., formerly the Rabbi at Temple Covenant of Peace, died in 1987.

Educated in the New Haven with additional coursework at the University of Chicago and the New School in NY, Lillian became a published writer of non-fiction.  Her best known book, The Taste of Yiddish, was published in 1970 and reissued in paperback in 1980. She also had articles published in the New Republic, Hadassah Magazine and Commentary.  Throughout her long life she remained intellectually curious and astute.  She was also a member of the Temple Covenant of Peace, Easton.

She is survived by her two children, David Feinsilver of Cleveland, OH, and Ruth Feinsilver Campbell of Brooklyn, NY, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Services are 11:30 AM Friday (Feb. 26) in the Temple Covenant of Peace, 1451 Northampton Street, Easton, PA with interment in Easton Cemetery. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.

Paul H. DuPuis

Paul H. DuPuis, 71, of Palmer Township, died Monday, February 22, 2016.

Born January 2, 1945 in Hartford, Connecticut, he was a son of the late Henry and Catherine (Geary) DuPuis.

He was a member of Temple Covenant of Peace, Easton and he served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are a daughter, Michelle Schaeffer of Manhattan; two sons, Mark DuPuis of Annandale, NJ and J.P. DuPuis of Flemington, NJ; and four grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 – 4:30 pm on Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Private interment with Military Honors will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

R. Christopher Mason

R. Christopher Mason, 65, of Palmer Township, died on his birthday, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Gracedale.

Born February 20, 1951 in Easton, he was a son of the late Robert L. Mason and Mary Louise (Rau) Morrison.

He was a dispatcher for the Palmer Township Police Department for over 10 years until retiring in 1980.  He later worked at Easton Hospital.

Christopher graduated from Easton Area High School in 1969 and was a member of the former Olivet Presbyterian Church, Easton.  He was a member of the Palmer A’s softball team and an avid Phillies fan.

Surviving are 3 brothers, Lee Mason of Nazareth, Jonathan Mason of Tamaqua and Timothy Mason of Bethlehem; a sister, Mary Sue Wasser of Wilson Borough; a step-sister, Diane Buskirk of East Stroudsburg and many nieces and nephews.  His brother, Thomas Mason died earlier.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 25, 2016 in the chapel at Gracedale, 2 Gracedale Ave., Nazareth.  Interment will be private in Easton Cemetery.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.  Offer online condolences at www.AshtonFuneralHome.com.

Virginia E. “Ginny” Thierfelder

Virginia E. "Ginny" Thierfelder

Virginia E. “Ginny” Thierfelder, 95 formerly of Palmer Twp., PA died Friday, February 19, 2016 in Abington Manor at Morgan Hill. Born January 9, 1921 in Center, TX she was a daughter of the late Ona Belle (Bogard) and William Edward Willis.

A 1938 graduate of Center High School, she received her BA from Stephen F. Austin College and did graduate work at SMU and Penn State. She was a Kindergarten teacher at Palmer Elementary for many years before retiring in 1986 from the Title 1 program at Paxinosa School. Ginny was an active member of Palmer Moravian Church where she sang in the Choir, was a Sunday School Teacher, Elder, member of the Women’s Fellowship, Ruth Circle and served on the Board of the Day School.  She was also a member of the D.A.R. and Amnesty International.

She is survived by a son: William E. and his wife Judith of Jackson, TN; a daughter: Anne Louise and her husband Walter Winter of Doylestown, PA; and 3 grandchildren: Katherine Anne, Sarah Beth and Maddie Grace. She was predeceased by her husband William G. Thierfelder in September and a sister Jimmie Hanks.

Services are 11 AM Tuesday (Feb. 23) in Palmer Moravian Church, 2901 John St., Easton, PA with a calling period 7 to 8 PM Monday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton, PA.  Interment will be in Forks Cemetery.
