Karl Stirner

Karl Stirner, 92, of Easton, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family.

Born November 14, 1923 in Germany, he was a son of the late Karl and Pauline Stirner.  His wife, Gay Lee Elwell, died in 2012.

Karl was well known as the patriarch of the Easton arts community and was instrumental in stimulating the economic revival of Downtown Easton.  He served in the Army during WWII and was an instructor at Tyler School of Art, Moore College of Art and Design, and Swarthmore College.  His work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Hunterdon Art Museum, Allentown Art Museum and James A. Michener Art Museum.  He was honored by the City of Easton with the creation of the Karl Stirner Arts Trail and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree by Lafayette College.

Surviving are his children, Heather Stirner Nutting and her husband, Mark of Easton, Noelle Stirner and her husband, Philip Lauer of Raubsville, and Jonas Stirner of Florida; a brother, Fritz Stirner of Cinnaminson, NJ; and six grandchildren, Devin, Liam, Ian, Jackson, Hudson, and Phoebe.  His sister, Frida Grimm and his brother, Kurt Stirner died earlier.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Bank Street Annex, 316 Northampton St., Easton.  A viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.  Interment will be private in Easton Cemetery.

Irving Bradley Schenck, Jr.

Irving Bradley Schenck, Jr., infant son of Irving and Felicia M. (Granton) Schenck of Easton, formerly of Newark, NJ, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Easton Hospital.  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Dartnul Woomer

Dartnul Woomer, 87, formerly of New Jersey died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Manor Care, Easton, PA. Born March 14, 1928 in West Mahanoy Twp., PA he was a son of the late Olive Woomer and Carmen Lasalle. He had been employed by General Motors for many years before retiring in 1993. His wife, the former Helen Bricks died in 2010.

Services are private. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton, PA is handling the arrangements.

Phyllis B. Howard

Phyllis B. Howard, 83, formerly of Palmer Township, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth.

Born May 16, 1932 in Wilson Borough, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Agnes (Bittner) Bonstein.  Her husband, Edward E. Howard died in 2005.

She graduated from Wilson High School where she participated in the marching band as a majorette.  Phyllis graduated from Churchman’s Business College and worked in the Office of Development and College Relations at Lafayette College.

She was a member of Palmer Moravian Church where she served as an Elder and co-chaired, with her husband, the Sharing of the Light capital campaign.  She was a Girl Scout Leader and founded Brownie Troop 8 at Farmersville UCC.  Phyllis served on the board of Northampton County Historical Society, was a volunteer at Easton Hospital, and a member of the You Are Welcome Club.  Phyllis was a great cook and home decorator, a talented painter and enjoyed touring art galleries. She also enjoyed attending Lafayette sporting events as well as plays and musicals at local colleges and on Broadway.

Surviving are her daughter, Leslie Ann Howard and her husband, Rick Stulgaitis of Madison, Wisconsin; a sister, Jane L. Peters and her husband Bob of Bethlehem Township; grandchildren, Richard S. Howard of Seattle and Vicki Heinz and her husband Jon of Minneapolis; and great grandchildren, Riley and Kennedy Heinz.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Road, Palmer Township.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.  Phyllis’ family would like to thank the Moravian Hall Square and St. Luke’s Hospice teams for their care and kindness.

Peter J. Stankus, Sr.

Peter J. Stankus, Sr., 96, formerly of Easton, PA died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in the Hunterdon Care Center, Flemington, NJ. Born November 26, 1919 in Easton he was a son of the late Joseph and Mageleinie (Vitzurgeat) Stankus. His wife, the former Clara Roth, died in 2012. He was a WWII Navy veteran and had been employed by the Dixie Cup/ American Can Co. for 43 years before retiring.

He is survived by a daughter: Linda Jacukowicz and her husband Leonard of Pittstown, NJ; a son: Peter J. Stankus, Jr. of Buford, GA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Clara; and siblings: Joseph Stankus, Stanley Butkus, Stella Wazontek and Helen Gibb.

Services are 11 AM Saturday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, PA with visitation 10 to 11 AM in the funeral home.

Marilynn K. Morrow

Marilynn Katherine Morrow, 92 of Easton, PA died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at New Eastwood Care Center, Wilson. Born March 19, 1923 in Easton she was a daughter of the late Albert and Katherine (Diehl) Miller. A 1940 graduate of Easton High School, she had worked for the Easton Draft Board, the family-owned Miller Brothers Hardware in Easton, Suburban Hardware in Wilson and the Thought of You Gift Shop in Downtown Easton before retiring. Marilyn was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and their Dorcas Circle. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years and was a BSA Den Mother and Brownie Leader.

She is survived by two sons: Anthen and his wife Patricia of Bethlehem Twp., PA, Philip and his wife Nora of Larchmont, NY; a daughter: Katherine Morrow-Voelker of Nazareth, PA; six grandchildren: Christina Check, Sara Faisetty, Sean Morrow, Erik, Adam, and Tyler Voelker; and two great-granddaughters: Ana and Mia Faisetty.

Services are 2:00 PM Friday, (Feb. 12) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton with a calling period 1:30 to 2 PM. Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Grace D. (Fahl) Kraus

Grace D. (Fahl) Kraus, 93 of Easton, PA died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at ManorCare, Old Orchard. Born May 19, 1922 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Mohr) Fahl. A graduate of Easton High School, she had been employed by Easton Sanitary Laundry and Lafayette Cleaners before retiring from A & H Sportswear in Easton after many years. Grace made the news and will be remembered for fending off a home intruder who had showered at her house and was eating fried chicken when she returned home.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church and longtime member of the former Christ Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Easton Elks Women’s Auxiliary; West Easton Fire Co.; Wilson Republican Club; Wilson Democratic Club; Junior Order of United American Mechanics; and ILGWU.

Grace loved attending Easton High School sporting events and traveling, especially on cruises and to Daytona Beach. She was also proud of her many years volunteering at Easton Hospital, the friends she made there and the time she spent at the Easton Southside Senior Center.

She is survived by her daughter: Lynne Berger and her husband Victor, III of Bethlehem Twp., PA; two grandchildren: Victor Berger, IV and his wife Ann, Tracy Berger and her boyfriend Joe Schnierlein; great-granddaughter: Ruby; and her beloved and attentive niece and nephew: Sis and Ralph Powell. She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband William H. Kraus in 2008; siblings: Albert Fahl and Betty Fleming; and her beloved dog Jambi.

Services are 2 PM Thursday, Feb. 11 in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton Street, Easton with a calling period from 1 to 1:45 PM. Interment is in Easton Cemetery.

Marie B. Moser

Marie B. Moser, 79, formerly of Easton, PA died Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Valley Manor, Coopersburg, PA. Born January 8, 1937 in Point Phillips, PA she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Martha Belles. She had been employed as a seamstress in Bangor for many years and was the longtime companion of the late Henry Barlieb.

She is survived by 2 sons: Francis and Arthur Moser; a daughter: Betty Moser; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday (Feb. 8) at Northampton Memorial Shrine, 3051 Green Pond Rd., Easton; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling arrangements.
