Carrie E. Williams

Carrie E. Williams, 94, of Wilson Borough died Saturday, April 7, 2013 at Country Meadows, Bethlehem Twp., PA.

Born: January 1, 1919 in Bethlehem, PA she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Ida (Serfass) Uhler. Her husband Llewellyn L. Williams died in 2001.

Personal: She had been employed by Northampton Community College and the PA State Parole Board for several years.

Memberships: She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilson.

Survivors: Son: Llewellyn J. Williams of Lehighton, PA; daughters: Sharon Haas of Wilson Borough; Gail Savidge of Hopewell, VA; 6 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday (Apr. 12) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton; with visitation from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Forks Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions: May be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2115 Washington Blvd., Easton, PA 18042.

Pasquale Pat Vitale

Pasquale Pat Vitale, 81, of Forks Township, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 in VNA Hospice of St. Luke’s.

Born:  September 29, 1931 in Easton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Gagliardi) Vitale.

Personal:  His wife, the former Lucille J. Johnson died in 2007.  He and his brother, Joseph owned Royal Painting and Paper Hanging, Co., Easton.  He was later employed by The Express-Times and Home Depot.

Memberships:  Pat was a member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, Palmer Township and played football for Easton High School.

Survivors:  His brother, Joseph Vitale and his wife, Fran of Palmer Township and nieces and nephews.

Services:  Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Memorials:  Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, 715 Chestnut Lane, Easton, PA 18045.

William B. Hutchens

April 6, 2013

William B. Hutchens, 89, of Palmer Twp., PA died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at home.

Born: August 25, 1923 in Pittsburgh he was a son of the late George W. and Estella (Trainor) Hutchens. His wife, the former Betty Stevens died in 2008.

Personal: A 1950 graduate of Robert Morris University, he was the owner of the Garden State (Union 76) Truck Plaza in Bloomsbury, NJ from 1972 until retiring in 1997.  Prior to that he was in banking at the Butler Savings and Trust in Butler, PA from 1950 to 1961. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the European Theatre, receiving a Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters.

Memberships: He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Northampton and former member of Grace Lutheran Church, Butler, PA where he served on Church Council and as a Scout Master. He was also a member of IWSA; Victory Lodge #694 F & AM and he served on the Boards of Warren Hospital, Vista Bank (now PNC) and the Minsi Trails Council BSA.

Survivors: Son: Scott Hutchens, with whom he resided; daughter: Joy Schreffler and her husband David of Dillsburg, PA; daughter-in-law: Daune Hutchens; sister: Patricia Bacher; 4 grandchildren: Rachel Williams and her husband Joshua, David Hutchens, Jocelyn and Bill McCreary; 2 step-grandchildren: Brian and Eric Schreffler; and 2 great-grandsons: Luke and Jeremiah Williams. He was predeceased by brothers: George A. Hutchens and Carl Rose.

Services:  6:00 p.m. Tuesday (April 9) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton; with visitation from 5 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.  A graveside service with military honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday (Apr. 12) in the Butler Co. Memorial Park Mausoleum, Evans City Rd., Butler, PA.

Ruby H. Updegrove

Ruby H. Updegrove, 87, of Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, formerly of Easton, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 in her home.

Born:  October 25, 1925 in Souderton, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Laanna (Freed) Hunsberger.

Personal:  Her husband, John H. Updegrove, MD died in 2010.  She was a graduate of Souderton High School and attended Bucknell University.

Memberships:  Ruby was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton where she served as an elder and founded the Order of Elizabeth.  She served on the Board of Directors of the Weller Center, the Women’s Board of The Easton Home, Planned Parenthood and the Northampton County Medical Society.  She was also a member of Northampton Country Club.

Survivors:  Two sons, Stephen C. Updegrove, MD and his wife, Kathleen of Hamden, CT and Andrew S. Updegrove and his wife, Katherine of Marblehead, MA;  a son-in-law, Grayson Holmbeck of Oak Park, IL and five grandchildren.  Her daughter, Anne L. Updegrove, PhD died in 2011.

Services:  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 8 in College Hill Presbyterian Church, 501 Brodhead St., Easton. The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Anicasio Colon

Anicasio Colon, 77, of Easton died Monday, April 1, 2013 in his home.

Born:  October 4, 1935 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Baldomero and Martina Colon.

Services:  10:00 am Monday, April 8  in Our Lady of Mercy, St. Bernard’s Oratory, 132 S. 5th St., Easton.  Call from 9:00 am until service time Monday in the church.  Interment in Hay’s Cemetery.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Donald E. Golden

Donald E. Golden, 64, of Bethlehem Twp., formerly of Wilson Borough died suddenly Monday, April 1, 2013 after being stricken at home.

Born: January 20, 1949 in Phillipsburg, NJ he was a son of the late Kenneth and Ethel (Stem) Golden, Sr.

Personal: He was employed by Royal HomeStar, LLC, Bethlehem (formerly St. Luke’s HomeStar Services) for the past 10 years; prior to that he had been employed by Electric Sanitary as a sales truck driver. He also served in the US Army during the Vietnam War era.

Memberships: He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilson; the Wilson High School Class of 1968 and the Varsity E Club.

Survivors: A daughter: Amanda and her fiancé David Gibb of Henryville, PA; sister: Bonnie Mammana and her husband Peter of Easton; brother: Kenneth, Jr. and his wife Clara of New Smyrna, FL; twin brother: Daniel and his wife Ilona of Fountain Hill, PA; 2 grandchildren: Alexis and Jayden; longtime companion: Colleen Markle of Wilson Borough and her sons: Jacob and Eric.

Services:  A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday (April 5) in the Northampton Memorial Shrine, 3051 Green Pond Rd., Easton; with a viewing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

Betty J. Charles, 85, of Easton died Monday, April 1, 2013 in the Easton Nursing Center.

Born: Born June 13, 1927 in Easton, PA she was a daughter of the late Roland and Ella (Kichline) Hiler. She was predeceased by her husband Russell F. Charles.

Personal: She had been employed by Mack Printing and loved to play Bingo.

Survivors: Her son: Russell Charles and his wife Beverly of Reading; granddaughter: Lorie Decker and her husband Chuck of Walnutport; 2 great-grandchildren: Hunter Austin and Cheyenne Decker and a sister. She was predeceased by 3 brothers.

Services: Will be private; the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery.

Ruth I. Worman

Ruth I. Worman, 87, of Easton died Thursday, March 28, 2013 in St. Luke’s Miner’s Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, PA.

Born: October 25, 1925 in Paterson, NJ she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Supplee) Canova.

Personal: A graduate of Washington NJ High School and Churchman’s Business College, she had been employed by Easton Hospital from 1965 to 2003. She was an avid reader and often donated her books to various organizations.

Survivors: Two sons: David A. with whom she resided; John R. and his wife Beth of New Ringgold, PA; and 2 grandchildren: Joshua and Anna.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (4/3) in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton, with a calling period from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
