Carole A. Butler

April 30, 2012

Carole A. Butler, 66, of Palmer Twp. died Monday, April 30, 2012 in Easton Hospital.

Born: July 7, 1945 in Melrose, MA she was a daughter of the late Solemon and Edith Ianello Boger. She and her husband James C. Butler have been married for 29 years.

Personal: A graduate of William Allen HS she received degrees in nursing and journalism from Penn State University and worked in the marketing and advertising field. She was an avid golfer and participated in several golf leagues.

Memberships: She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer Twp.

Survivors: Her husband: James; sons: Bryan Zimmerman and his wife Donna of Center Valley; Erik Zimmerman and his wife April of Cross Junction, VA; step-children: James Butler, II and his wife Cheryl of Catasauqua, PA; Kimberly Dudrich and her husband Paul of Archbald, PA; a brother: Robert Boger of Easton; sisters: Doris Mathew of Sante Fe, NM; Joanne Long of Rocklin, CA; a grandson and 6 step-grandchildren.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday (5/4) in the church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Easton; with a calling period from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton and 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Church. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

MemorialContributions: May be made to an animal rescue organization of choice.

L. Doris Rice

April 29, 2012

L. Doris Rice, 92, formerly of Carpentersville, NJ and West Easton died peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Westminster Village, Allentown.

Born: June 25, 1919 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Valentine and Ophelia (Klotz) Meade.

Personal: Her husband, Robert L. Rice died in 1992. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1937 and was a graduate of Bellevue School of Nursing, New York City.  She was a nurse at Dr. Avery’s office in Wilson Borough.  Prior to that she was a nurse at Easton Hospital.

Memberships: She was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Survivors: Four daughters, Barbara A. Mentesana and her husband, Tony of Chesapeake, VA, Kathy M. Rooker and her husband, Dan of Danville, VT, Carol J. Jiorle of West Easton and Trudie C. Pleiss of Ottawa, Ontario; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her brother, Bertine R. Meade died earlier.

Services: 10:30 am Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 9:30 am until service time Wednesday in the funeral home.  Interment in Easton Heights Cemetery.

William F. Lampe

William F. Lampe, 88, of Palmer Township died Saturday, April 28, 2012 in St. Luke’s Hospital.

Born: September 3, 1923 in Hillside, NJ, he was a son of the late William A. and Catherine Mauch Lampe.

Personal: He and his wife, the former Elaine Hammer were married 57 years.  He was a plant engineer at Ecolaire, Easton and served in the Coast Guard during WWII.

Memberships: William was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Survivors: wife, Elaine; four children, Sue Williams and her husband, Gary of York, PA, Craig Lampe of Carlisle, Lauren Hoenstine and her husband, Bob of York and Roy Lampe and his wife, Julie of Downingtown; two sisters, Kay Bonas and Eleanor Bachenburg and seven grandchildren. A sister, Edna Foley died earlier.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Tuesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Call from 4:00 pm until service time Tuesday in the funeral home.

Trung Hoang Le

Trung Hoang Le, 30, of Easton died Friday, April 27, 2012 in My Home Assisted Living, Catasauqua.

Services: Services will be private.  The Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton is handling the arrangements.

Margaret Jane Minford

April 23, 2012

Margaret Jane Minford, 90, formerly of Palmer Twp. died Monday, April 23, 2012 in Manor Care, Bethlehem.

Born: March 29, 1922 in Philadelphia she was a daughter of the late William and Mary King Rennie. Her husband Jack H. Minford died in 1986.

Personal: She had been employed by Easton Hospital, Taylor-Wharton and Leamon Chemical before retiring.

Memberships: She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church where she had been a secretary at the Rectory years ago. She was also a Past-President of the school’s PTA and former member of the Easton Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors: 3 sons: William and his wife Patricia of Windsor, CT; David and his wife Susan Elkins of Glenville, PA; Eric and his wife Toni of Laurys Station, PA; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Jack and brother William Rennie.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday (4/26) in the church, 4049 Hartley St., Easton, PA 18045 with a calling period from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.

Bertha “Birdie” Hillman

April 21, 2012

Bertha “Birdie” Hillman of Palmer Township passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2012 in Old Orchard Health Center.  She was surrounded by family and devoted caregivers at Old Orchard.

Personal: She was the wife of the late Edward Hillman who died in 1995.  Birdie graduated from Easton High School in 1929 at the age of 14.  She was employed by the County of Northampton and worked in the Tax Claim office retiring in 1972.  The family extends their thanks to all the dedicated staff at Old Orchard and Connie Hendershot her “girl”.

Memberships: She was a member of the B’nai Abraham Synagogue, Easton for 60 years.

Survivors: Her son and daughter in law, Herb and Sally Hillman, a grandson, Jarrett Hillman of Palmer Township and a sister, Shirlee Wenzel of Bucks County.  She was one of eleven brothers and sisters.

Services: Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday at the B’nai Abraham Cemetery, South Side, Easton.  The Ashton Funeral Home, Easton is handling the arrangements.

Robert C. Belyea

Robert C. Belyea, 86, of Palmer Twp., formerly of Pequannock Twp., NJ died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Easton Hospital.

Born: June 2, 1925 in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late L.S. and Thelma Combs Belyea. He and his wife, the former Marlou Rau would have been married 65 years in June.

Personal: A Professional/ Licensed Electrical Engineer, he, with his brothers, owned and operated the Belyea Company in Palmer Twp. (a business started by his grandfather in NYC in 1908 to help electrify the garment industry.) A graduate of Palm Springs High School, CA, he attended Stanford University and was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy during WWII, then graduated from the California Institute of Technology. He enjoyed farming and was an avid horseman. He also enjoyed swimming, distance riding and snorkeling in the Cayman Islands.

Memberships: He was a national and local member of the IEEE and life member of the Pacquenac Tennis Club, Pompton Plains, NJ and had been elected to the School Board of Pequannock Twp., serving on the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment.

Survivors: His wife: Marlou; daughters: Marlou Belyea and her husband Zack Taylor of Berkeley, CA; Carolyn Belyea and her husband Dr. John Zecherle of Novato, CA; brothers: Stephen Belyea of Hellertown, PA; L. Shephard Belyea of Riverdale, NJ; 6 grandchildren: Danielle and James Taylor; Nicole O’Sullivan Belyea; Alexis and Adrian Coombs; Alicia Zecherle; 5 great-grandchildren: Ravenne and Nick Ongpauco; Vienna and Sophie Hockabout; Aaliyah Coombs; and son-in-law: Dr. Jack Coombs. He was predeceased by a daughter Wendy Coombs in 2011.

Services: An Open House to celebrate his life will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (4/25) in his home, 1253 Firethorne Dr., Easton, PA 18045. For information call the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th & Northampton Sts., Easton, PA.

Aaron G. S. “Butch” Vandever, III

April 12, 2012

Aaron G. S. “Butch” Vandever, III, 58, of Easton died Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice, Allentown.

Born: June 12, 1953 in Wilson Borough, he was a son of Eva M. (Marsteller) Derr and her husband, Edward of Easton and the late Aaron G. S. Vandever, Jr.

Personal: He was a maintenance mechanic at Georgia Pacific/Dixie, Forks Township for 26 years.

Survivors: his mother, Eva; a son, Cory M. Vandever of Easton; a brother, Edward Derr, II of Easton; a sister, Pamela Wright of Whitehall and 3 grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 am Tuesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Interment in Belfast Union Cemetery. Call from 7 – 8:30 pm Monday in the funeral home.
